How would I put an online store on my site? I can't pay for someone to build one for me. Any suggestions?

Try PayPal, they have a free shopping cart software (and allow for compatible software you'll have to buy) and charge a rather minimal amount (2-3% of item + 30 cents). Although you will be at their mercy if they decide to freeze & seize your account.

Just like there is free php based fourm software on the net, the is free php based webshop fronts out there. I just can't remeber the names of any right now. :sweat:

One problem you'll run into is the need to pay someone to move the money around. Pay pal is pretty nice, in that they change a small ammount and can do just about anything you want. Be wary of trying to put a credit card taker directly on your site, though, those can *really* add up.

i'm building a few sites for my youth group and we are considering putting some recommended books and cds and whatnot on there. so i was wondering if there was any way we could set it up so they could buy it right of the site.

I think there's a thing where you can be an "Amazon.com partner." I'm not exactly sure how it works, but I've heard people talk about it, and how if you bought one of the books they recommended off the Amazon.com link on their page, they got a percentage of payment, or something.

That might be something to look into.

You *can* do the "amazon.com associates program" but I can't recommend it. I was one of the first two or three sites they had there, and I eventually pulled mine. I never made any money off it, despite a large volume of stuff that went through there. The customer support was completely nonexistant, too. I sent them an email eventually telling them to cancel my account.

Of course, this was years ago, now. (For or five, I think).

well, we're not putting the store up to make any money really, it's more just to have everything conveniently in one place for them to buy.

In that case, what you may want to do is just want to grab the thumbnail graphics off amazon (or whatever store) and create an HTML website that has the list, with the graphics for more information. Then link them to the appropriate page.
