What anime would you say are good for introducing a girlfriend to the world of anime, or just sitting down and watching one evening?

Personally for a girl I would say something like Fruits Basket or something along those lines. Rurouni Kenshin would probably also be a good bet. If this is her first anime it would probably be a good idea not to pick something to far "out there." :lol:

haha. Sorry, I couldn't resist! Maybe something like Saint Tail or as mentioned before RK. Probably stay clear of things with Gundam if she's not hard core!^^ Also, I've heard Millenium Actress is good, and Grave of The Fireflies. They're a bit more normal.

I hope that you don't mind me asking this. What kind of movies does she watch or like. The best way pick out anime for her to watch is to list her likes and dislikes in movies.

Ah, yes... ^_^ For a very special lady friend, I'd recommend something sweet and cute and funny. Like Hamtaro. (Everyone knew I'd recommend that one, right? :lol:

Well, she has seen some anime and liked it, but my experience of anime is limited to a bunch of older stuff and I'm branching out again to get back into stuff. We saw Howl's together and the loved it. We've also seen some RK which is perhaps her favourite, and Castle in the Sky was okay.

She seems to be enjoying Last Exile. I know I am.

As for movies, she loves westerns, old ones particularly, and old classic movies in general. Then of course epics, adventures, and romance. She's quite a feminine lady.

something that will get her REALLY into it.... like a hayao miyazaki film... or grave of the fireflies (typically a movie would probably have a better chance of having her hooked, then move on to series)

Escaflowne- adventure, sword fights, mechs, for your gf, it has cute guys, and for you, cute women in it and its also has romance in it.

The Place Promised in Our Early Days maybe one that you both may like. It's a movie.

The director that made Voices of a Distant Star is the sameone that directed , The Place Promised in Our Early Days.

A female mecha pilot tries to keep in touch with her boyfriend on earth while she is in space using cell phone text messages. The farther away they get from each other, the harder it is for the text messages to get to each other.

It's a short OVA or movie, 25 mins long, but its good.

In an alternate timeline, Japan was divided after losing World War II: Hokkaido was annexed by "Union" while Honshu and other southern islands were under US sovereignty. A gigantic yet mysterious tower was constructed at Hokkaido and could be seen clearly from Aomori (the northernmost prefecture of Honshu) across Tsugaru Strait. In the summer of 1996, three 9th-graders had made a promise that one day they'll build an aircraft and unravel the tower's mystery, but their project was abandoned after the girl, Sayuri Sawatari, began experiencing sleeping sickness and transferred to Tokyo for better treatment. Three years later, Hiroki Fujisawa accidentally found out that Sayuri had been in coma since then, and he asked Takuya Shirakawa to help him finding a way to revive her. What they don't know yet is that Sayuri's unconsciousness is somehow linked with secrets of the tower and the world.
