My Manga

Postby Griffin » Fri Nov 28, 2003 10:55 am

Hi.
As some of you know, I have a manga.

Recently I have felt it necessary to put more of God in my manga. I know that this will cost me many viewers, but I dont care. All i care about is God right now.

So, i need people to go see it. People to encourage me. and most of all i need people to give me new ideas, such as the one that MichiruT sent to me.

Here is the story so far.

Lucian's brother goes to College after giving hima nd his family a libraray of christian books, and giving Lucian a "Fairy", who is literally the channel of the Holy Spirit!

Lucian may miss his brother, but with all the reading, the learning, and the happiness that his brother has left, hedoes not feel bad at all.

Then his brother goes off the "christian path" and becomes involved in things that no christian should. Lucian seems to want to follow his brother's example, and stops caring about doing things against God's laws.

Lucian's Fairy Friend, Lanni, Prays for wisdom to know what to do, because her heart is torn between love of Lucian, and her strong feelings from the Holy Spirit that he needs to be led back to God at all costs.

Lanni, listening to what God tells her, takes Lucian back in time so that he can learn to live simply, and come back to God.

Yes, i kept the Fairy, Michiru. I felt that it was cool, but i also felt that THe holy spirit was needed. so i did a combo. she was kinda just something that i loved and imagined, and needed- cause Lucian wont listen to God, or the Holy Spirit. She, havign been a gift of his brother, was prized to Lucian, so he would be inclined to listen to her, and even love her.......

:dizzy: its all so complicated! i want to include God, but i also want to have myth, and some creatures of legend. hope i can still gain people for God, and have a nice mythic manga.....lets find out!
:bang: i feel like i am banging my head agains the wall.

Well...I would guess that messengers of God have the power to take any form they wanted, but you might try changing the wing type of the fairy a little somehow so she doesn't seem too fantasy-ey (and thus people directly equate her with mythology/magic) and I would make it very very clear that her powers come from God. (I'm sure you've already thought of that last part though.) I have a question though; is the fairy like a guardian angel and how did Lucian's brother "give" her to him?

I think the whole thing is cool though...:)

hmm...you have isolated something that needs to be worked on. i should write a history and post it on the writing forum.

The fairy are "given" sort of like adopted children. They are God's creatures, and as such are free to do as they choose. ON the other hand there are several races of adoptables that act as consciences and guardians. They can fall in love, eat, drink, sleep, and do all those human things. The one thing that makes them special, however, is that they act as a direct link to The Holy Spirit, and an equally direct link to God.

I will, make no mistake about it, make sure that NO ONE can confuse these fairies with their mythic counterparts. She will pray, gain powers from God, and happily-make only good decisions though she has free will.

Thanks for your interest, InkHanna! How does this sound? make it clear?

Oh. and we need more christians on Drunk Duck!!!! we have the ability to write a free manga about anything, so i hope that some more of you guys use it and create fantasy that glorifies God, and teaches while making a good story to read.

That sounds good...^^ This brings another question to mind (that I don't -think- you've answered, but I might be mistaken... ) Where does Lucian's brother (and anyone else who has access to a fairy) acquire them?

Yeah, DD does need more Christian fantasy...^^

0.0 Forgive me for my slow response. Don't you guys have something else to do during Thanksgiving?

Alright, Lioness. Nice to see you working hard on your manga.

I'll respect your decision to keep the fairy. The one reason I avoiding fairies is Kaitou Kamikaze Jeanne. Hope that explains my stand.

Here's one suggestion before you continue on. Let your readers know that this is "partially fiction/fantasy." Don't want ppl to mistakenly assume there are such things (i.e fairies) in real life. Just have some kind of disclaimer and you're fine to go.

Since one of the best ways to write a story is to always have a purpose. I'm sincerely hope everyone here is working towards providing a Christian message. Pls! This is very important for all budding Christian manga artists. Your duty is to please God, nothing else.

Ahem....OK, anyway, here is the mission/vision that I can see in this type of manga: Introducing and letting readers learn who the Holy Spirit is. It works very well for both Christian and non-Christians. Many Christians still don't understand who the HS is and do not allow Him to bring out the potential in each Christian while many non-Christians are not aware of a Holy Spirit that will never harm, steal or injure. Instead non-Christians get mixed up with other spirits which are unholy.

I understand it is difficult to representing our dear HS in its true abstract form so at the moment (unless I detect something terribly convicting in the sotry), I'm still OKing the fairy idea. Will you use Lanni as a representation of the Holy Spirit? If so, it's imperative that you know the Holy Spirit yourself. My #1 crucial question is how is YOUR personal relationship with the Holy Spirit?

If good, pls make sure that Lanni really had the characteristics of the Holy Spirit such as ....He's gentle, convicts one's heart when necessary, has feelings, provides guidance, is our Friend, Comforter etc.etc...

If not very strong and you still want to pursue the vision I presented to you, I highly suggest you learn more about the HS. Pray, communicate with God, read literature that deal with the HS (Ex: Good Morning, Holy Spirit by Benny Hinn) and read the bible that describe the HS.

If you don't want to go with my vision (I can understand becuase it's difficult and a controversial issue for some), it's OK but I request that you share your vision for this manga. ^^

I might take a while to respond in the next few days since I'm very busy. Thought I'll let you know. ^^

Ok. Here is my vision of the manga:

Its Christian in it's Actions:
no sex, no bad language, limited violence*sometimes there may be a fight, but never, never, never, will i show blood, gore, or anything encouraging violence.

absolutely no bashing of other religions! I will not and as a christian cannot allow bashing of other's beliefs! Neither will i endorse anything besides biblical christianity.

It's Christian in its message:
There will be bible verses. There will be a disclaimer. "Christians do not believe in Fairies or any other creatures like them. *ie, any mythic races listed below*" The disclaimer will be updated every time i introduce a bit of fantasy that lives in my mind.

I will make sure that Lanni can only "use the gifts of the holy spirit". She is not, nor will she ever be, the HS. She is nothing more than a person close to God whose race is gifted with the Holy Spirit so strongly that they can use all of the gifts he brings.

I dont want to even touch having Lanni be a representation of the HS, because i fear that i will not show a true message.

Yes, I will be showing people who the HS is, through verses from the bible when Lanni is introduced.

my main goal is to provide fantasy that tells about God.

I believe that my relationship with the HS is better than ever, and will develope with this manga. also, i cant go wrong quoting the Bible to make sure the right idea is made clear.

did i cover everything? If this ends up being hard to keep true, i might just end up having a "Christian Manga" where the characters go to church, read the bible, and confront issues we all face. I do not anticipate this beign hard if Lanni is just using the gifts. that way The HS is only represented by bible verses about him, and everyone knows him well by the end.

] coz it's tough and would drive me (and probably the rest of us as well) crazy guiding you. personally, I'm not that knowledgable and wise enough in this area.

IMO, you're ready to start with your project. Do expect to make changes as you go along the way (it's fine coz you'll be getting feedback from us). Have fun! I'll be keeping my eye on your project coz I'm interested. :)
