Rumiko Takahashi Appreciation

So who else likes Rumiko Takahashi based series?
You know series such as:Inuyasha,Ranma 1/2,Maison Ikkoku,etc.
Also what is your favorite series she created and favorite character:
mine:Inuyasha,Kagome.

I love Rumiko Takahashi. Ranma was a big influence on my early anime tastes, which probably says a lot.

Ranma probably remains my favorite, although, technically speaking, I believe her series keep improving in both story and artisitc style. InuYasha is her "best, IMHO. (That doesn't mean it has to be my favorite, does it?)

My favorite Takahashi character? Ukyo Kuonji, although I really like Akane Tendo, too.

I have as much of Maison Ikkoku as Viz has released so far, all of Ranma 1/2 (the whole thing, even the Japanese Hot Song Contest OAV), and most of Urusei Yatsura. I never got into Inu-Yasha much, though I have a couple of the DVDs.

Ranma is my favourite, but also because it was the first series I got really into (you can blame Mithrandir for that).

I would have to say that Maison Ikkoku is my favorite Takahashi series. My favorite character I think would be Kasumi Tendo from Ranma 1/2.

Personally, for me it deals more with Kasumi's silent power to strike fear into the hearts of all those who know and love her. I just got done with manga volume 31 which contains the story, "Kasumi Get's Mad." Simply classic.

No, this particular story was never animated. It starts off with Kasumi making dinner for the family. They however have already stuffed themselves at a restaurant. Soun calls her on the phone to tell her they won't been needing dinner. An sudden "click" is heard and that's when their imaginations begin to run wild as they return home and find all sorts of evidence that Kasumi is on the rampage. Of course, Ranma takes the brunt of their attempts to apologize to her. One of the better stories I've seen in awhile.

Rumiko Takahashi is all kinds of great. I'm currently reading Ranma 1/2 (on book 9) and I've started watching Urusei Yatsura. I'm not really much on Inuyasha, but Takahashi's other stuff is great.

I liked Urusei Yatsura-- I think it was her best series, and was also her most original work. I also liked her obscure short stories that appeared in books like "One or Double" or Rumic World. Personally Inu Yasha was the first series of hers that I didn't like-- her Mermaid Saga was a better entry into the horror/supernatural genre.

I liked the early days of Ranma, but it eventually got old and I quit reading it after volume 22.

Maison Ikkoku was good, but eventually got stale as well. The final volume had a "Let's hurry up and get this over with" feel to it.

Yagami Ibuki (Maison Ikkoku)
Ataru Moroboshi (Urusei Yatsura)
Lum (Urusei Yatsura)

And this is all manga btw. With the exception of Urusei Yatsura, I have not seen a series of hers that translated well into anime (Ranma being the most disappointing adaptation.)

I've heard tons about Ranma, but have never seen it, sigh...what a pity. Anyways, my favorite Series that Rumiko Takahashi did was InuYasha.
My favorite character on the other hand is, Sesshomaru and InuYasha, not to mention Kagome and Sango!

No, that was Viz's title for it. The Japanese title is simply "Urusei Yatsura" which is rendered as

As for quality, I really think it was her best work in both anime and manga, as it was the funniest and most original of her works.

This project takes up where Viz quit translating the manga, so you still would need to get the original volumes of UY to see how it all starts.

AnimEigo releases the TV show, although some of the older volumes may not be available anymore. They also release dub/subs of the movies, but watch it subbed. The dubbed versions are at best adequate and at worst abysmal.

The only thing I disliked was when Sarah Strange, the first Ranma-kun, left the show -- her replacement (yes, she did the male Ranma) Richard Ian Cox, who was the voice of Inu-Yasha, was more whiny. I got used to him, but I liked Sarah better.

Fortunately, she did the movies and the OAVs, which were dubbed early, so she "comes back."

I've read up to volume 15 of Ranma 1/2. I admit it's pretty funny.

I have a relative who's just like Ryoga, as far as sense of direction goes. I am NOT kidding.

AnimEigo is currently in the process of releasing all of Urusei Yatsura on DVD. Good news for the fans out there.

I've never seen a UY dub. Sounds like a good thing.

No, what I mean is, they have limited stocks of the old stuff they already did on hand, even the DVDs. If you look at http://www.animeigo.com/Products/uy.t , the older DVD box sets are already out of stock. You can still get single DVDs, though, but that's pricey and a bummer. The boxes aren't very sturdy, but they look nice on a shelf.

That reminds me -- I need to come up with $90 to buy the OAVs. <.< >.>

Oh, I see. Yes. The boxes were only meant to be a limited edition. The key was ordering your box in advance. They didn't make many more boxes than were originally ordered, so they sold out quickly.
