About Gungrave....

Postby Kezu-Chan » Wed Aug 24, 2005 12:49 pm

Hey, is it alright to watch? :D A friend and I were wondering about that.

(She's been kinda interested because it was done by Trigun's creator....I don't really have any interest for it, but just checking for her....)

It depends. There's a lot more violence than in Trigun and the protagonist is a
hitman for a mafia like organization.

Gungrave was a weird one, I must say. I watched the whole series twice on G4, and the first time I thought it totally sucked. Second time around, it was tolerable, but it was another anime that lacks a real ending, just kind of lumping up everything right at the end.

Watch it if you are REALLY into stuff like Trigun and Cowboy Bebop. Just be warned - it's nowhere near as good as either of those were.

The only good reasons to watch it IMO are the fact that in the dub Maria and
her daugther Mika are played by Michelle Ruff and Kari Wahlgren respectively(with
Kari Wahlgren listed under Kay Jensen)otherwise I agree it isn't that great of
a one especially compared to Cowboy Bebop.

Is there anything that a christian might object to? Like weird religions/demons or something? I heard that Grave was resurrected. How?

The main character is ressurected via science, and there is nothing supernatural alluded to in it. As far as other content goes: there is pretty considerable violence, but I don't recall a great deal of blood or any gore. There are a number of sexual references and one relationship that might bug you (though probably not on a moral level). The philosophy of the series is fairly neutral regarding Christianity (depending upon how seriously you take the series, it can have either almost no message or a number of different ones).

If you're asking regarding quality, I would say that it is worth watching if you honestly have free time and enjoy the genre. Though in my mind the ending is fairly weak, the method in which the series is created is masterful. The action and plot are only average (though, as I said, the methodology used for the plot is good).

I personally thought the series was amazing. I reeaaallly loved it ^__^ The plot was good, but the end was kinda disappointing and good at the same time. I liked the art, and I liked Brandon... so it was a fun series for me. Personally, I enjoyed it just as much as Trigun, maybe more, but not quite as much as Cowboy Bebop.

Thankies UC and Kawaii! And Kezu, who posted this. (I'm the friend referred to.) I think that I'll check it out.

A friend recently referred me to the series. I was also wondering about it, since I enjoyed Cowboy Beebop and Trigun (with the exception of a few episodes in both).

Two things that I really don't like: strong language (esspecially blaspheme) and sexual content.

How would you rate Gungrave in these areas? If there are a lot of these in the series, I'd rather not watch.

I assume by blasphemous language you mean casual use of "God." If I recall correctly, there was barely any of that, though there was likely some assorted language of the usual type. As for sexual content, I'll quote myself: There are a number of sexual references and one relationship that might bug you (though probably not on a moral level). Again, they are only references.

Thanks for the info. I might check out the first few episodes and I'll see where I go from there.

Definitely check more than one. Episode one takes place 80% of the way through the series, then the next 17 (that's a rough estimate) are all essentially a massive flashback. The entire series is really about the past, and doing it this way is an effective strategy.

Hmmm. That caught my attention. Now I'm interested. I saw it in a store the other day (a TopCD) and I wondered if it was any good. Thanks.

Gun grave is a great show but to get the most out of the series you got to play the ps2 games gungrave and gungrave overdose. there fun shoot the heck out of them games but the second one is more linked with the series were the first one came out before the series so the show is based off the first game so there are diffrencest

I found the show to be interesting but the real fun lies within the games. ;)
