DBZ lives on...

Postby Godly Paladin » Sat Aug 13, 2005 7:01 pm

:bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:

This thing has been around for ages on CN. At some times it was on two or three times back-to-back, and it's cycled through the entire series how many times? They've even dropped GT for it!!!!

I'm neither a GT nor a Z fan. All I'm saying is...why is this show still on? Other series that premiered on CN at the same time have long since disappeared.

DBZ can't be that popular!

Is it? :mutter:

They're showing cuz they remade the first 2 seasons... as to if it's really that popular, I'm not too sure.

Yeah I'd like to see the actual numbers there on that one. I mean it's been on Toonami almost as long as that block has existed. And I know the DBZ craze has died down some in the last like 8 years.

Naturally, we get another season of DB. No word on when Witch Hunter'll ever air again, though. Figures.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Yeah, DBZ fan here... <.< II >.>

Although I can understand y'alls frustration, y'all also need to realize and accept that DBZ is here to stay. Sorry :P

But yeah, I would actually like to see the original Dragon Ball series again. They kind of left me wondering what happens next. Plus, it's the only series I haven't seen all the way through.

The things I remember about DBZ perhaps the most are:

- How Goku always tells the enemies to "leave this planet now and I will not hurt you" before he realises the enemies don't leave and he has no choice but to beat them up.

- How some episodes drag out the fight scenes by having the two enemies face each other in midair and hurl insults at each other for half an episode. :)

- How in some movies really powerful enemies come and all the good guys are down except for Goku and he does some final supreme special move and finishes the bad guys.

I want to get more DBZ on DVDs .. but have no more space in my room... :(

Hah, I think I saw one DBZ in all my life, and that was the one where the weird dude... goku, and some dumb alien just sat there staring at each other for about 10 minutes... yet the dumb alien failed to notice the giant ball of energy that was forming... oh well :D

I much preferred the Original Pokemon to that :P

Dragon Ball: yes.
DBZ: not so much.

No offense to DBZ fans, but I don't get why it's still around, either. The series ended in what, the late 80's? Seriously, there's alot better shows out there that haven't gotten nearly as much attention as DBZ has.

I think that, to answer a question raised, yes, Dragonball Z is still that popular. New generations continue to watch it and enjoy it.

Now, while my idea of a good time is not sitting down to watch DBZ episodes, I am a fan of the series. DBGT is, in my mind, worse in all respects. The original Dragonball would be my least favorite of the three, however.

Well I wish to take a guess as to why DBZ is still popular.

I am thinking it's because all young kids like to identify with the good vs evil theme, with them being on the good side. Then you've got these gigantic fireballs that shoot out from the palms of Goku and friends as they battle the fiends... and your heart just cries out and says "Yes!" when you see evil vanquished in such "mega" ways ...

Well, at least that was what drew me to the series before .. :)

I still enjoy them both, Dragonball much more than Z. Dragonball Z would have been a lot better had half of the episodes been cut down on.

Reason why it's popular:

1) A continuing story that attracts fans along the way.

2) Intresting characters with backgrounds. Such as the Sayjins, Goku, etc.

3) Intresting and detailed battles that please the eye.

4) Enough content to make a website out of.

5) ALOT of movies.

and 6) One of the pionerring anime to be introduced on televsion which launched the American anime frenzy.

Funny, all of those apply to Sailor Moon (except number three...and number five, I don't classify three as a lot), but I don't see it on TV anymore. :\

There's a guy in my class named Greg (who's really, REALLY fat, I might add) and today he grabbed a metric ruler and jumped around, saying he was Trunks or Goku in 50 years (joking on his own weight, it seems). I mentioned some other anime, OP included, to which he replied:
"I've seen One Piece. Man, that show is so stupid! Some guy eats a fruit and gets stretchy? It's stupid!"

Um, it's suppose to kinda stupid anyways.

And it's not like grown men flying around yelling at each other for five episodes then fighting really fast only to end up yelling at each other again isn't stupid...

Be careful when criticizing. It is far too easy and can be done to anything. Dragonball Z does indeed suffer from being very much dragged out, but it isn't like One Piece doesn't have the same thing (though to a lesser degree). Had One Piece been made in the same era has Dragonball Z, it would likely feel much the same.
