The Battle: Manga vs Anime

The real heart of CAA; discuss specific series, issues, and things related to anime here.

Music can have a huge effect and when it is perfectly timed to the animation then it's even better. Colour also helps to define things better than something in black and white can.

UC does make some good points though. Reading a scene is faster than watching the same one and dramatic pauses do work better in manga and you can stop reading at any point and continue from where you left off. Chapter breaks help that in anime, but it isnt the same.

I didnt answer the question and it's a pretty close contest between the two. Ultimately I'm going to have to say anime. The opening theme always gets me in the mood as it is supposed to and manga doesn't have that so it's more difficult to get into the mood for reading manga.
Absence is to love as wind is to a flame. It extinguishes the little, it ignites the great.

Life is a test. It is only a test. Had this been real life you would have have been instructed where to go and what to do.

When i argue with reality I lose.....But only 100% of the time.

Once you've decided on a course of action, only you can finish it. As long as you remember that, there's nothing you can't accomplish.

I DEFINITELy would say Manga because then people can't mess up the voice overs. Plus there's a lot more stuff (plot wise) in the Manga than in the Anime most of the time.

I'd say anime because it can affect you in more profound ways. And it's usually a bigger treat to the eyes.

GASP, this is my 666 post!! (((((((((((((o_O)// RUN!

I can't choose!

But I voted anyways: Manga. I figured it would have been pretty blasphemous, considering my username, to vote any other way.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

It's borderline heresy to even utter that you can't choose. Perhaps your user name should be Mangaconfused

I have to choose anime. Although I have nice sized collections of both, anime is definitely my focus.

Between "the perfect manga" and "the perfect anime," I would choose the perfect anime. There's just something indescribably awesome about color and motion and feeling and tone working together to create something greater than themselves.

Unfortunately, this potential remains largely unexplored. For that reason, even though I prefer anime as a medium I actually receive more enjoyment from manga. It's by no means an easy thing to do well but when compared to anime, there are just fewer things to screw up.

I prefer manga to anime mainly because for me it's cheaper and it is easier to access. Chapters is not very far from me and they have a whole manga section there. I could just pick up a volume of Rurouni Kenshin, sit at one of the tables there, read it all the way through, put it back on the shelf and go home (seriously they allow us to do that ...Yeah, I know I'm cheap...).

But anime is also really good *looks over to his Last Exile DVD set*.

"Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth, you will again bring me up." Psalm 71:20

Hmmm....Well, that's a tough choice. There are some things in the manga that you can't get in the anime. Also, there's the problem with reading the manga first and being dissapointed by how things play out in the anime as opposed to how things go in the manga. For instance, the second Aoshi/Kenshin battle. I LOVED it in the manga, but the anime had poor animation for that scene, and it just didn't flow as well. Also, the animation quality for that ep was low par. Also, some lines are better said in the manga...I.E. Saitou says "A whipped dog who ran, tail between legs, ought not so love his own bark." Wow. Awesome beyond explanation. But he says it differently in the anime, and it doesn't sound as insanely cool. XD Also, manga=no filler episodes! LOL. And there's always the chance that the anime could be poorly animated or cast.

BUT, it works both ways. There are some things in the anime that just can't get any better. I.E.
The scene where Kenshin leaves Kaoru to go to Kyoto. I loved this scene in the anime SO much more than in the manga...it's done so perfectly. T.T I love it!
Also, there's no VA's to drool over in manga...XD There's no music, no color, no movement. So, if you value these things in your entertainment, manga may not be the best.

BUT, manga is much cheaper and more portable than anime is. Manga is usually no more than 15$, and that's the most expensive (in the US, at least). Anime DVD's run from 11-30something$, depending on the series. And boxed sets...X.x Ack. So manga wins for price, ...

BUT...In the end, after stating all the pros and cons, I honestly can't choose which one I prefer! XD But I buy manga more often, anyways. I do enjoy a good anime, though! *is being indecisive* Hahaha!
