ZoneAlarm 6

Postby Arnobius » Wed Aug 03, 2005 10:16 pm

Anyone else using ZoneAlarm Pro have trouble with the new upgrade (60.631.003)? Stupid thing locked up my computer several times, so I finally had to uninstall it and go back to an old 5.5 upgrade. Glad I kept that file and backed up my settings.

Wish they'd actually test the stupid thing on real computers before releasing it on the public  :comp:

ZoneAlarm is a big program: I'm sure that they do all sorts of breaktesting on it. Chances are that your system is causing conflicts with it. You should search the company's support forums for info on the crashes. An outdated firewall is useless... hackers don't look for outdated methods of attacking one's computer.

A design flaw then since 5.5 had no conflicts whatsoever. Well, if I have to choose between ZA and my Antivirus protection (the usual source of incompatibility), then bye bye ZA.

Guess I'll have to wait until they fix it with a new upgrade...

(BTW: My system is conflicting with ZA? An interesting way to put it... kind of like saying a victim assaulted a muggers fists with his face... ;) )

one of my friens had a similar trouble with the last update, it was conflicting with his antivirus (Avast) i think the new update sorted it though..

Yeah... now that I think about it, Trend Micro was incompatible with ZA Pro 5.0, so maybe they'll fix it with a newer update. Guess I'll keep 5.5 installed for now, and hope for an improved update later on.

My guess would be the newly added anti-spyware feature with ZA6 is the problem

At least I have a hardware firewall/router to keep stuff out (I mainly use ZA to keep things in)

Gahhhh, I hate the new update! It messed up my computer too. It set all 500 things of mine to block accses to the internet and I cant figure out anyway to set them all back to ask, without doing it individually. Zone Alarm = EVIL!!!

At least I'm not the only one. Their tech service is pretty useless. So I'm just going to use 5.5

Just an update. ZA came out with 6.0.667, which seems to work fine with Trend Micro (except I need to Google a lot of things to see whether they are safe or not... it's a bit less efficient that way than 5.5)

Well disregard the previous: Evidently, ZA 6 thinks my WinXP language bar is dangerous and blocks it. Back to 5.5
