Walmarts gone cheap with anime!!

Postby Tenshi no Ai » Sat Jul 30, 2005 5:56 pm

Seriously! In my local Walmart they carry Tokyopop and Pioneer/Geneon anime titles and they are ALL $8.99 CAN!!

Makes me feel mad that they had a Chobits vol I have for that price when I got it for reg price (around $45 CAN :/)

Kinda weird how they have odd numbers of volume. Only had vol. 2 and 4 of Haibane Renmei so I picked it up cause it's a good series (AND it's cheap!!)

Not sure it's it's just my Walmart but if you're looking for cheap stuff, try Walmart's bargain section :/ (What a place to find good anime in!)

I think they also had Robotech stuffage in another bargain bin for like, less than $5 :/ But I'm not into that series.

They had both Signature Series and reg. editions of anime... they DID have like, a random vol. 3 or whatever of Tenchi in Tokyo though.

Others to name they had:

Saint Tail
Reign
Chobits
Lain
Haibane
Tiny Sugar Fairy (or whatever)
L/R
Chobits
Vampire Princess (insert her name here)

If only they had vol. 1s of them though -_-;

Geneon/Pioneer seems to be trying to unload a lot of their older stock in a number of different places. Big Lots has had a good number of their titles including Trigun, Someday's Dreamers, Adventures of the Mini-Goddesses, and Chobits. I wouldn't doubt that the bargin bin's at Wal Mart have some of the selections there too.

My sister and I bought a boxed set of Magical Project S (which includes 14 episodes + pencil board), El-Hazard, and two DVDS of Mao-Chan at our local Big Lots. Each DVD was only $3.99 apiece.

Saint Tail? That was discontinues ages ago.

Anyways, that's cool. I'll have to watch for anime. :thumb:
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

It makes me kind of sad that all the older anime is being shipped out to make room for the newer stuff. Maybe I'm just being old, but it seems a lot of the newer stuff isn't as good quality. They're just shipping out whatever people will snap up. Which is why I can't find any of the manga I'm interested in anymore.

I hear ya! While I'm tryign to complete my anime collections (.hack, Angelic Layer, Chobits, RahXephon) they are so hard to find now I find, just to make room for the newer series... oh and sometimes I odn't think they realize to bring back some series to shelves... Chobits has been so popular and yet they never bring back the DVDs :/ Even then, most of the new titles seem so... blah :/ Mostly why I don't buy my Anime Insider mag anymore :/

Manga on the other hand, always brings back old stuffage so I don't have a problem with it (which is why my list of anime to get is first priority usually).

They sell Miyazaki movies (Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service, Castle in the Sky, Princess Mononoke) at my Wal-Mart for only $14.99 each. Considering most anime dvds go for around $29.99, It's a good deal. I haven't seen any other anime there though besides Yu-Gi-Oh or Pokemon or Dragon Ball Z.

Since I am mostly in effective contact with my local Wal-mart's Electronics dept. (Reasons i will not disclose for I might get attacked), I have found that Funimation and Geneon seem to be major vendors for it.

Anime i have bought there:
Fullmetal Alchemist Vol. 2 and 3
Appleseed
Gunslinger Girl Vol. 2
Burst Angel Vol. 2 (bleah anime to me)

Currently have Steamboy Collecter's edition in layaway. (now if Netflix would send me a copy!)

Anime I have seen there:
Gits: Sac
Dragonball z
Samurai champloo
Inuyasha
Mouse
Tokyo Pig
Porco Rossa
etc.

Mouse... isn't that a "bad" show?

Actually I remember seeing them stick Ghost in the Shell 2: Innosence in the Kids Section!! And from what I heard of the first movie, I assumed that the second one might be well, a little more higher rated to stick beside Disney and Spongebob DVDs :/

Seeee? I have the same problem as Mitsuki Lover. Most of the anime I'm really really interested in is now considered older stuff. And most stores won't carry the obscure stuff anymore because there is more of a demand for the high-profile type stuff that is on CN.

oi, I'm so old. :eyeroll:

But the old stuff is soo good!! I'd say that 2002 was like the BEST year for anime. It's when I totally got into it and had series like .hack//SIGN... Azumanga Daioh... Chobits... Haibane Renmei... RahXephon... Which Hunter Robin

...now Haibane and Chobits are on the clear out shelves to make room for... whatever "popular" anime they're tryign to sell now :/

Unfortunately, the best way to get most anime that's a little "older" in its American release date is through Internet stores. Not everyone can shop online, though. If you can, I recommend Right Stuf and Digital Eyes. There are also a couple of threads discussing anime shopping online, so if you're interested, search for those. :thumb:

I n September of 2012 Megaroad-01 was launched with an escort of fleet of zentraedi warships. From that point on the mass-production of the Megaroad -class colony ship began and soon long-range colony fleets were routinely being launched from earth solar system at a rate of 1-2 per year.
In September of 2022 Megaroad-19 colony ship with it’s escort fleet left earth and headed south fifteen degrees to the right of the southern star. On a mission with three objection; One to search for a planet to colonize, two to see what the rim of the galaxy looks like, three to see if any zentraedi fleets are out there. On July 21, 2025 Megaroad-19 entered its ninth star system and named it the sierra system.
Orbiting the third planet is an asteroid that was some ten miles in size, and a moon that was named Karla.

We're surrounded by both. And where we live in Eastern Washington doesn't have as large a population as Seattle, still there are several Walmarts around Spokane and into the North Idaho area.
Oversaturation in my opinion. :shady:

Just remember that if they're that cheap and listed on eBay, then they are more than likely not the licensed, official releases you may be expecting.
