Jin-Roh reeks of depressing stuff.

Heh. Haven't seen this thread in a while.

Okay, the most depressing anime I've seen to date is definitely Saikano. The one with the girl who's the ultimate weapon thingy. Yeah. The thought that was most prevalent in my mind while I watched the series is, "Okay, so which character is going to die in this episode?" It's not too far off from the truth, either...

You know I actually saw "Memories" and the short "Magnetic Rose" in it.

People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share

And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence.

The most depressing anime I've seen was the "End of ...the movie that can not be mentioned on this site but involves mech "Angels" and lots of bad theology. Its just plain dark and depressing and I found no redeeming value.

Noir is a pretty depressing anime series but it does have some nice bittersweet moments.
Most drama anime seems to be fairly depressing. Are there many drama anime series that have happy endings?

Grave of the Fireflies hands down. That's probably the most depressing movie I've seen in years.

Grave of Fireflies. *hangs self*
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

You people are missing an obvious one here! Cowboy Bebop is predicated on the blues, which are not exactly happy. And of course, its ending (which I won't spoil for those few, few souls who haven't seen it several times over) is very depressing.

Several episodes of Full Metal Alchemist-- especially the one where Tucker transmutes Tina and the dog together and then some guy (can't remember his name) puts her out of her misery. The one where the mom dies and they try to bring her back is really depressing too.

Inuyasha is depressing in some parts. Such as when Inuyasha learns that Naraku pretended to be him and killed Kikyo, causing her to believe he betrayed her. In a later episode, he has a flashback of this and is calling out in his mind "It wasn't me! It wasn't me!" I thought that was really really sad.

I'm going with Chrno Crusade, I never expected an ending like that in any anime

I would say Elfen Lied was the most depressing series I have seen. Another one would be Infinite Ryvius. Both dealt with pyschological issues of the human psyche.

I have not seen many animes so I was afraid to post this, but this to me was horrifyingly sad! The ending to most of the episodes just seemed to send shivers down my spine. And the whole show lead to a perfect ending. I am going to say this is my vote for saddest, but I need to watch more than 4 animes =P

My vote goes to Kannazuki no Miko, which has the saddest ending of any anime I've seen. I havent seen cowboy bebops ending though.
Absence is to love as wind is to a flame. It extinguishes the little, it ignites the great.

Life is a test. It is only a test. Had this been real life you would have have been instructed where to go and what to do.

When i argue with reality I lose.....But only 100% of the time.
