weird question

Postby Yeito » Wed Jul 06, 2005 10:26 pm

Ok, I'm doing a story and such. My two favorite genres are Christian fiction and fantasy-type-stuff. So I decided to do a story that was both cause I don't think I've come across one thats like that.

Anyway... in my story there are characers who are 'abilitors'. They can use different abilities depending on what they specialize in. It wasn't till after I had organized all the different specialties out on paper that I noticed it could be taken as a form of magic... kind of.

My plan was to have it where in the story you could only get into higher rank with your abilities if God allowed you to. This envolved a lot of prayer and stuff. (and the badguys pray to the darkness who has to check it with god first) But I wasn't sure if that was a good idea now.

My question is: Do you think it would sound hypocit-ish if I made the story with this in it? Would is sound too much like magic to be mixed up in it?

-_- Thank you for reading this and if you reply, thank you for your opinion.

I'm not entirely sure; but I too like fantasy. I think there has been so much emphasis on what the powers of darkness can do, but hardly any on what God can do! God can heal, split oceans/rivers, create huge pillars of cloud and fire, change the weather with a mere word, command both inatimate objects (eg mountains) and live animals (eg the infamous 'whale'; lions, etc)... the list is endless.

When it coems to creating a Christian fantasy story, I suggest looking in the Bible for examples of God's awesome power. Also, if you have a character who is filled with God's presence and does His will, make sure that the miracles the person does through the Lord's power are not morally wrong and make sure that they will bring glory to God.

I hope that helped

That's a really good point Talame. I think you're right; if you make it that the person can't do anything wrong with God's power, then it shows that in the end it's really God's power and it comes down to Him -making a distinction between this concept of the abilities and magic.
