Should Samurai Champloo be added to "Do Not Discuss"

Postby rocklobster » Sun Jul 03, 2005 1:13 pm

I just think since it has quite a lot of sexual material in it, Samurai Champloo might need to be on the Do Not Discuss list. Am I making too much out of this?

Eh, has anyone started a big debate over it? Not really.
Don't forget, sin is sin regardles of it being killing, or sex, or whatever, so if we added every anime that had something we didn't like, we wouldn't have any anime to talk about.

The contents of the DnD list generally stem from two things - whether or not the entry is hentai or yaoi (which goes without question) and whether or not we've had troubles with it in the past (ie, NGE). There are many, many anime with sexual content that aren't on the DnD, and adding all the ones with a few problems (as opposed to the ones with which we, in our experience, have had vast problems) would take days...^^;; So no, until "every Samurai Champloo thread becomes a fight" it won't be added.

People who write below their abilities in order to crank out tons of books and make a buck. Especially Christian authors who do that. Outsiders judge us for it, and make fun of us for it, and it makes Jesus look bad. We of all artists on earth should be the most concerned with doing our best possible work at all times. We of all people should write with all our hearts, as if writing for the Lord and not for men.

Feh, I don't know. I don't really like the show, which is why I don't watch it so often (I enjoy seeing more historical accuracy in that time period, and the show is certainly lacking there. I'm also not a fan of hip-hop...XP). Anyways, I do know that there was a big homosexual theme in the show a couple of weeks ago...EW. I don't really mind if people talk about it here...I just think it's a stupid show...*shrugs*

Personally I enjoy it because Kari Wahlgren's one of my favorite VAs and
Fuu is so funny to watch! :thumb:
It's one of those shows that you need to have a certain taste for really.
To be honest though I thought the pilot was a bit confusing.
As far as sex goes, since it's only in the early eps. on AS I can't say that there was much to worry about so far outside of cleavage issues.

And you still like Samurai X even though they've taken some major hisorical liberties there?:P

It wasn't really promoting homosexuality. He was just looking for acceptance. And the sexual content so far mainly contains the usual brothel, prostitute, pervert guy stuff.

I was watching last nights episode and this guy is running around looking for a ex student of the school he went to who killed the teacher.
So he has a buddy running around with him that he says to give him a down beat and the guy starts mouthing thumping the end of his sword like its a microphone so this guy can do a rap song.
CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT YEAR IN JAPAN THIS IS SUPPOST TO BE.
Its Strange if you ask me.

They've tried to make sure that you know it's not supposed to be historically accurate. I mean, people were wearing glasses and such. It's just a funky hip-hop spin on Samurai anime.

Exactly Eric Shermon the ADR Director said himself said that the series has alot of history in it but it's totally irrelevant.

I haven't really seen anything that bothersome in Samurai Champloo. I enjoy it for its comedy and action, if nothing else. It's a lot like Cowboy Bebop with far inferior plot and characters.

Uh, this is really meant as a reply to everyone who's talked about Cowboy Bebop... did you all know that Watanabe was the same guy who did Bebop?

Inaccuracies and such are his style in directing.

(Besides, Jin wouldn't be Jin without those glasses. They make the man so to speak.)

The only problem I had with that ep is if the guy's gonna rap, why won't he rhyme? Anyhoo, right there in ep 1 they had a big caption reading "This work of fiction is not an accurate portrayal. Like you care, just shut up and enjoy the show." Pretty much sums it up.

For the small bits I saw, I liked the show. I didn't generally give a swifty (CR) rip about anything be historically accurate. I just want to be entertained.
I liek that guy (don't know his name) who's with Jin and always goes crashing through everything and jumping on people's faces. It's good to see someone who just cares about getting the job done and not looking all that fancy.

We don't have a "these titles are from Hell list." As others said the DNDL list is to avoided heated debate or discussion of anime that are purely pornography.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Or just spark so much controvery like Evangelion.

Besides I would think a true historical samurai anime would be boring as heck. Comeon guys it's anime it's supposed to be "out there" if you want a documentry go watch...well a documentry.:P

I love the ending theme song "Shiki no Uta" by Minmi. That's such a beautiful song...even if it's a bit R/Bish.

You should broaden your tastes old school R&B has some of the greatest artists ever under the genre. Hendrix, Stevie Wonder, BB King, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Eric Clapton, just to name a few. And some of the most beautiful songs ever created.

Ok well I agree with ya there. Modern R&B isn't really that great it's really slumped. Still some ok stuff out there like Seal and Toni Braxton but ehh.

I don't think it should be added to the list. I mean, the fighting in itself isn't worse then Kenshin in terms of violence and for the sexual content... Well perhaps there may be some, but I don't think it's an extreme. I kind of felt Love Hina had more suggestive situations and fanservice then Champloo has had so far.

Yeah...Love Hina Again has much more then Samurai Champloo and Ghost in the Shell has nudity....but they aren't on the list whereas Evangleion does have fan service but no nudity (well..save for EoE) but it's on the list. That's because it causes debates. That's the bottom line folks.

We've stated many times that we will NOT add a title to the list if we think it's too nasty, unless it's a REALLY well known piece. Think of it as security through obscurity.
