There are a ton of great opening and closing themes, but when I think of a "best" anime music I would have to go with, "is the entire soundtrack one you would listen to without constantly fast forwarding to the next song, or to the ending or closing theme." That being said, my favorites are:

Noir OST 1
Rahxephon OST 1 (it has another name I can not think of at the moment)
Inuyasha (I have a best songs CD, but I forget the name)
Cardcaptor Sakura (The Best CD with songs from both the show and the two movies)
Anything Cowboy Bebop
Gundam Seed (Rogie and Kkun beat me to mentioning this one, but it is GREAT!)
Saiyuki (can't remember, but it's the first disc we bought)
FMA music

If I would have voted for best opening theme or ending theme, my list would have been much longer.

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

I would say both for this thread. I guess you would consider the overall collective musical presentation an anime has, including its theme songs, in-show songs, and the score.

I notice a lot of members here are posting from shows that can be seen on Cartoon Network...let's choose some others, unless those actually have the best. I still say Inuyasha, I mean, anyone here that doesn't like it has never heard 'My Will', 'Every Heart', or 'Song of Truth'.

Well let's face it now there is a reason why CN and AS picked up the shows, it's because they're some of the best anime out there period. And most of the best anime shows out there have really good music.:P

I n September of 2012 Megaroad-01 was launched with an escort of fleet of zentraedi warships. From that point on the mass-production of the Megaroad -class colony ship began and soon long-range colony fleets were routinely being launched from earth solar system at a rate of 1-2 per year.
In September of 2022 Megaroad-19 colony ship with it’s escort fleet left earth and headed south fifteen degrees to the right of the southern star. On a mission with three objection; One to search for a planet to colonize, two to see what the rim of the galaxy looks like, three to see if any zentraedi fleets are out there. On July 21, 2025 Megaroad-19 entered its ninth star system and named it the sierra system.
Orbiting the third planet is an asteroid that was some ten miles in size, and a moon that was named Karla.

Hm...Inuyasha and Cowboy Bebop have gotten the most nominations. What would your favorite songs from those series be? I like Tank, and the Real Folk Blues. From Inuyasha, Toki o Koeru Omoi would be mine.

Ok, thanks.

In an unassorted order (off the top of my head):
Score: Pokemon (Japanese only!), Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Laputa: Castle in the Sky, other Ghiblis (pretty soon I'll end up listing them all separately ^^; ), InuYasha, Ai Yori Aoshi, Fullmetal Alchemist, Rurouni Kenshin OVAs, Someday's Dreamers, etc.
Song: Pokemon (again, Japanese only!), Cardcaptor Sakura, Spirited Away (the end song is so good), InuYasha, Ai Yori Aoshi, Ai Yori Aoshi Enishi, Rurouni Kenshin, Fullmetal Alchemist, etc.
Overall: Most of the above

So many to choose from... ^^;

Okay, Every Heart from Inuyasha in English = AWESOME! I mean, c'mon, check out the lyrics:

Tell me babe, how many do I shed my tears?
Every Heart Every Heart is not a gentle yet

Shall I do? I can never say my loneliness
Every Heart doesn't know so what to say oh what to do

(I) was afraid of darkness cause I felt that I was left alone
So I prayed for help to (the) distant million stars

Round & Round the planets revolve round the sun
And we always seek after love and peace Forever more
Growing growing woe baby we can work it out
Look up at the sky Every Heart is shining all today

Show me now, What kind of smile do I come across
Every Heart Every Heart can take a step towards the dreams

All of us what to take a lasting happiness
Whenever you feel sad, I wanna hold you & give you a sound sleep

Someday Every Hearts gonna free and easy
We have peace of mind
Someday all the people find the way to love

Goes & Goes the time goes on we are not alone
We live on together and we will find some precious things
Sometime we will smile sometime we will cry somehow
Don't forget believing yourself - Tomorrow's never die

There is the warm heart places on my mind
In my earlist day's there and it's so sweet
There are many stars they have talk with me so kind
They say yes always time's a friend of mine so shine

Round & Round the planets revolve round the sun
And we always seek after love and peace Forever more
Growing growing woe baby we can work it out
Look up at the sky Every Heart is shining all today

Goes & Goes the time goes on we are not alone
We live on together and we will find some precious things
Sometime we will smile sometime we will cry somehow
Don't forget believing yourself - Tomorrow's never die

Dunno why, but the bolded part is just exhilarating.

Last Exile, Gundam SEED, Inuyasha, and Cowboy Bebop had some amazing music.

While not really the best series, Zaion has some pretty good progressive-rock music that's really original. Though I also can't argue on Azumanga Daioh's cutesy songs or Madlax's fitting suspense\action themes.

Cowboy Bebop is hard to beat music wise. Very, very cool.

I think that Inuyasha and the movie Princess Mononoke tie for best music. Then Wolf's Rain tags behind them. I have ordered the Pricess Mononoke soundtrack and it is awesome. I know both of the songs with words in Japanese. I suggest getting the Japenese version cuz the english one does not have as many songs and the music just sounds alot better.^-^ :comp:

Ooh...Tough one! I really, really like all of the InuYasha music...Especially Every Heart, Fukai Mori, and My Will! But, I also LOVE the Rurouni Kenshin music, such as Sobakasu, Heart of Sword, Namida wa Shitte Iru, and Hanbun. FLCL has some really catchy music, and Ghost in the Shell's opening themes are two of my favorite songs...I love Bebop's music too..."Words that We Couldn't Say" and "The Real Folk Blues" are just awesome. FMA's "Ready Steady Go" is insanely catchy, and I also love some of the songs from Outlaw Star and .Hack Liminality. Gyahh! I can't decide! XD

You know, I REALLY liked the music for Full Moon wo Sagashite. I know most people got tired of some of the songs...but I never did. I thought they were beautiful and had some amazing lyrics.

Amen sister! I liked it a lot. I've watched the whole series twice, and the music still gives me tingles. Maybe I'm just too easily entertained. . .

I like the music to Noir a lot, too. It's some pretty awesome stuff.

Yeah, the music in Noir rocks too. And Cowboy Bebop's is pretty good...

But still, nothing compares to the awesomeness of FLCL's soundtrack.
