Do you ever watch the previes?

At the end of every episode of an anime series, there is always some kind of 20 second preview introducting the next inepisode. Do you guys watch it or skip directly the next episode?

Because for me, each scene of the preview that I see is kind of a spoiler in itself. Most of them are dialogue-driven and can sometimes give hints about what to expect next. I personally would like to know nothing about what comes next and be surprised the moment I actually watch the episode. So I just skip it.

But that's just me.

Depends... For Cowboy Bebop, I highly recommend the trailers, because they are really funny

Oh, I always watch those. Often, they throw something funny and unexpected in there as a bonus. Nadesico is very much that way, for example (what I'm watching lately).

I watch the previews when I watch Gundam Seed dubbed because of the stupid little sayings that Murrue Romius screams at the end of each preview like "Tear through the burning darkness, Gundam!" or "Rip open and blaze through the atmosphere, Gundam!" They make me laugh and her poor VA must have felt like a moron doing that. Generally, though, no.

I hate how sometimes they give spoilers, but I still watch them so I see everything.

yup! I agree with Sir shooraijin....at least on some series, they throw in a bit of humor or some inside joke. It depends on the show... Definitely can't miss Bleach and Last Exile endings though...amusing! specially Bleach. madly in love with that show ^_^

They're usually pretty funny and give a nice little tidbit for the next episode so I usually watch them.

I usually watch them - I really enjoyed the Cowboy Bebop previews, and the Kyou Kara Maou ones were pretty good, too. x3

Usually if the next episode is on the same dvd then no, I usually don't watch the previews. But if it's the last episode on the dvd, and the episode leave off on a suspenseful note, then of course I'll watch the dvd previews for the next episode. Especially if the next dvd is being released on a bi-monthly basis or I just can't get a hold on the next dvd...I just gota get a glimpse into what may happen next. And hopefully that will be enough to tide me over until I can watch the next.

I watch them but sometimes they do give things away.

The best ones, IMO, are the ones narrated by a certain character, adding the flavor of that character to the preview, for humor. ^^

I always watch them, because they are meant to be part of the episode when it airs on TV.

Me too. I think Trigun has some pretty thought-provoking ones sometimes. In fact, I have to admit, sometimes I often feel cheated when there are no previews.

Depends on my mood or how curious I am. if its something I've read the manga for and want to see where it is in relation to what i've read then sometimes i'll take a peek. Or if I just feel like it I will. Depends on my mood.

Yes,I especially love the older ones from Inuyasha where it's just
Moneca Stori giving the narration of the preview and at the end she
says:"See You Soon!"
I really miss the "See You Soon!" in the more recent previews.
It was like Kagome giving the viewer a personal invitation to come back again and watch the next episode of Inuyasha.
One of my favorite stand alone previews is from the ep. just before
LUM CHENG on Silent Mobius when the VA who does Lum gives Lum's
impression of all the rest of the AMP and then she says:
"Who am I? I'm LUM CHENG!"
When you hear her say it it comes out all cocky sounding.

I watch them, except for Kenshin. Those basically give away the entire episode and, in my opinion, are poorly done. The same is true for the episode titles. So, with the exception of RK, I enjoy watching them. The ones for Inuyasha and Trigun are especially enjoyable

I watch the previews. But I have only seen complete series of Noir and Last Exile. On another note why are there always two title screens appearing about half way through each episode? I can live with it, but it breaks up the continuity a bit and pulls you out of the "world" the anime series is taking place in. Frankly its annoying.

Oh, you mean the eye-catchers? Yeah, I guess when an episode is broadcast, they usually split the show in half so that the commercials can air in the middle. The two title screens basically transition the anime in and out of commercial time.

Okay, thanks for the explanation. But why on earth do they have to keep the transitions when they put the series to DVD? Its pointless really!

I don't know. I kind of like the little filler scenes, especially when some of them can be entertaining for those few seconds. Either the editor of the DVD was too lazy to omit those out, or most anime fans insist on keeping them as to keep the series 'pure' and untouched, or something like that.

Though that's almost like asking why previews exist on the DVD, since we don't have to wait another week to see the next episode.

Yes, I understand but for example there may be a quiet scene in Noir and then the silence will be broken by really heavy guitar riffs and a voice saying "Noir." It sometimes makes me jump out of my skin, if I'm really absorbed in the anime series.

I can understand the Noir\Madlax eye-catchers, which I find them to be a tad annoying when they appear after a quiet moment. Though I guess there's really nothing we can do but maybe try to mentally time the eye-catchers and not be caught surprised.

At least they tell you when you're midway in the episode.

But I just want to enjoy the series, I don't need to be ripped out of that universe by transitions! The whole point of buying them on DVD is so you don't get ads and can watch them all at once if you wish.

Yeah, the commercial breaks are very annoying. Especially when they repeat the last few words that were spoken before the break. It looks really stupid on a DVD (especially when they vary the wording slightly in the dub for some reason). It's not a big deal, but it would be cool if series were edited more for their DVD release.

I think they put the eyecatches in because the TV channels use the DVD's too. That way they know when to break. Of course, G4 doesn't follow this logic.

If a series has a continuing plot through the episodes, which each building on the next, I wouldn't want to watch the preview for fear of ruining the mystery of the next plot development. I don't like to know what's going to happen. However, if a series were not all that cohesive (or the previews never gave anything away) I might watch them.

Thanks - I've been wondering about those... I agree that they can be distracting, especially when they break up a tense scene.

Wow. I got to thinking, and the only anime where I watched previews other than the last one on the disc is The Twelve Kingdoms (WHR doesn't count, as it's mostly text, and gives nothing away). I can't wait to see the next episode, so I usually only watch the opening and closing themes once per anime unless I like them. Of course, it probaly doesn't help that I'm usually a bit short on time when I watch anything.

But anyway, as a rule, I watch only the last of the previews.
