Do You Read Anime Based Novels?

So does anyone else read any novels that have been based on anime
series?
I'm into reading the Robotech series primarily because it's the only one
our library has but I do understand that other shows like Silent Mobius and
Gundam Seed also have novels out.

I've read the novels that Slayers was based on, and I've looked at picking up the Robotech stuff. Are those any good?

I've always wanted to read the Maru-ma series, which is what Kyou Kara Maou! is based off of. T_T; Sadly my Japanese is not good enough yet, and Maru-ma looks like it's pretty hard to find outside of Japan

Gankutsuo is based of "The Count of Monte Cristo", which incidentally doesn't have giant robots or takes place in space, but close enough.

Yeah, that's exactly right. I wonder if they ever did get around to publishing more? It was a very short book (about 100 pages, I believe) but it was so incredibly entertaining. I laughed out loud more than once reading it.

are you talking about graphic novels or mangas? If so, no not really. But I'm assuming you are talking about really book novels right?
If that's the case, I haven't yet, but if I could find one that I really want to read then I would probably seriously consider it. Actually, I may want to try and kind the novel version of "Howl's Moving Castle," and "Grave of the Fireflies." Though if I recall, Grave of the Fireflies may go by another title. Anyone happen to know for sure?

I've never seen any novels based on anime or manga. Although I heard The Heroid Legend of Arislan anime was based on a manga which was based on a book, which was based on an old legend from... somewhere, I forget.

And once or twice I've thought an anime would make a good novel.

Though i saw Battle Royal at the comic shop. Might pick that up.

They've some novels based on RahXephon, though I don't know for sure if they've all been released or how good they are; I'm very curious, but then I hope they don't torch it because it's one of my top favorite shows....... <single tear>

The robotech novels are NOT the original, but Boogiepop Phantom did start with a novel series... The anime doesn't have the actuall plot of any of the novels, but it sorta takes place between two of the books... Unfortunately, the books aren't translated into English, so the only thing I can get is the anime and the live action movie (or, one of them, as i heard there were actually two)

The Robotech series are based on the anime and are by Jack McKinney.
They're pretty good if you're into Sci Fi.I would say that they're somewhat
better than the average Trek novel.
I noticed the time before last when I was at Barnes & Nobels that they had
reissued the first three in a compendium format.
btw:They also have some of the Robotech eps. out on DVD now as well.
I saw one that was for only $14.99 if it's still there the next time I'll
probably buy it.

I have read both the Onegai Teacher and Onegai Twins ones ... makesm e scratch my head at the idea of novels.

However the ones I am most looking forward to are the Akumetsu ones for Vampire Hunter D. Infact the movie Bloodlust was based off of one of these novels, of which there are eight, and I really want to read them. I am quite thankful that they have a US release coming as they were recently licensed.

I once read the Sailor Moon novels published by TokyoPop.

Bleh...just...bleh.

There was too much Americanization and advertisements in that novel.

One part talked about how Serena put on a pair of Gap jeans and an Old Navy t-shirt.

Ugh. I will never read another anime-based novel again. ><

If they'd release the boogiepop novels and Hotaru no Haka in the US, they wouldn't be anime based books but you could read the books that some anime were based on. Not all anime comes from Manga. Some come from novels. Neither the Boogiepop series nor Hotaru no Haka exist in english... If you read German, however, you can find Hotaru no Haka in German... I don't know what the German title is, but it comes out to mean something like "A Grave for Fireflies" so that should make it possible to find...

Oh,yes.They even pre-date the current rage of turning comic books into novels
that got started with the novelization of The Death And Life Of Superman.The
Robotech novels are all dated around the late 1980s.I want to get the DVD
so I can see how my imagination of characters and events contrast with the
way they were actually shown.

I have only the Mobile Suit Gundam novels in english and I'm near the end of that, but in Japanese I have Char's Counterattack, and .Hack//AI Buster (which is coming out in english sometime in August), both of which I have yet to finish since I have to keep looking things up.
