[spoiler] We can't exactly say that Dio died, because if you listen, right after he supposedly "died" you hear his voice again! It occurs when Sophia tells the engine operator to increase speed or something like that; he repeats the order, and then if you listen, you also hear Dio's voice saying it as well. If you recall the engine operator helped show Dio how to run it to some degree. This could either be a hint that he's still alive somewhere (thus rendering Luciola's sacrifice no worthless), or it could just the engine operator rememberind Dio, or something like that. I also think that Alex's death wasn't completely a negative or depressing thing, because it was in essence the ultimate form of freedom for him; he no longer had to suffer over losing Euris, and could finally be with her. Before that though, one of the officers tells Sophia that her name was the last thing he uttered. Just some thoughts on some of the previously mentioned posts! Dio was actually one of my favorite characters because of how much conflict he was dealing with underneath his cool exterior. [/spoiler]
