Figure 17?

Postby Kat Warrior » Tue Jun 07, 2005 9:16 pm

Okay, this is an anime that I saw the first three eps of, and besides one exclamation of the "d" word, I had no issues with it. So my question is, has anyone seen more of the series, and does the swearing increase, or is that pretty much it?

NOTE: I did a search and found another topic about this title, but it didn't answer my question, and in adding to it I would have done the ultimate necro-post.

I've collected the whole series and have to say it remains one of my favorites. In regard to your question about language, I remember only one or two times that this came up. In fact I know the instance you are referring to and one more that I can think of towards the end. Other than that the show is clean as a whistle and one that I was not hesitant to show to my kiddos. If you enjoyed the first 3 episodes that you will definately enjoy the rest of the title. It remains very slice of life with the majority of the show focusing on the two main characters Tsubasa and Hikaru. The sci fi element never does overwhelm it but remains part of the overall backdrop of the story. The ending brings closure to the series in a way that is somewhat expected and will tug at your heartstrings. I give Figure 17 very high marks for animation, storyline, character development, and I found the English dubbing to be well done. Now that the series is in a very affordable box set I would hope more would take the time to view it.

For those wanting more information about the series here is a good site:

The only down side I saw to the series is most of the episodes till the very very end are very slow for the most part of them. And then considering the episodes are an unusal 45 minutes long and can be quite tedious to watch them. However the story behind the series, the dub, the artwork. Everything save for the character development which can seem to be very drawn out and a tad tedious at times is very well done. And I must say I enjoyed the series immensely.

Although the Manga ending was slightly different then the anime ending which makes the series make a little more sense however I will not say more because that would be a spoiler if one had not seen one or the other.

Much thanks, much thanks. ^_^ As long as the Lord's name is never used incorrectly, I think I'm okay. ^_^ I gotta say, I think Lex Lang really does outstanding with all his rolls. He's got such a cool voice! (He was DD)

Yeah, definately don't have to wrry about that with this series. If it wasn't for the stints of alien fighting I would HIGHLY recommend this for all audiences. But due to the blood and what not of monsters getting destroyed outside of the character development of the the girls, it wouldn't have been quite as a good a series with out those particular parts.

I've been eyeing this show since its first volume was released, and I've been wanting to see it. I'm definitely going to get the boxed set once Right Stuf has a sale on DVDs for the studio that released it (Media Blasters, I think...).

And yes, I am an online bargain shopper. ;)

I just finished dics two. It's a bit irritating that this one only has two episodes and the other had three... and the place I rented it from only has up to volume four and I think there's six in all. WHY?! :mutter:

Okay, I gotta say, I DO NOT like Orudina. At least not yet. Boy, I hope she changes or something. I hope that wasn't a spoiler. I forgot how to make the nifty highlighty spoiler-things.

Well, you do have to remember that each episode is 45 minutes long so in reality you do have 90 minutes of showing with each volume. This series was shown a little differently on Japanese TV. They only showed one episode a month for a 12 month period.

As to the pacing being very slow with the action being kept at a minimum, I really like that. Some of my favorite shows will fall into this catagory (Figure 17, Someday's Dreamers, NieA_7 and currently watching Haibane Renmei). To me these are pleasant distractions from a lot of the stuff coming out these days.
