English VA nicknames

Postby eva-boy7985 » Fri Jun 03, 2005 3:35 am

I always visit http://www.imdb.com for info about voice actors and what shows they've done in the past. Sometimes different VAs will use different names when they're credited for different shows. I was just wondering if anyone had any idea as to why they do this? Does it have to do with popularity not overwhelming them? I know that authors sometimes use different pen names for different books that they write as so to avoid crazy popularity issues. It'd be cool to hear your thoughts on this! (for example Amanda Winn Lee {Rei in NGE} also goes by Jennifer Proud {Appleseed}!) :eh:
"Hey Shinji! Lookie lookie!!! Backwards Roll!"
-Asuka Langley Sohryu  :thumb:

unseen is eternal" 1 Cor. 4:18

Amanda Winn Lee also goes by Amanda Lee Winn. She plays two of my favorite
characters:Mika Seido on Geneshaft and Mimiuru(sp?) on .hack//sign.
Michelle Ruff(Mitsuki Sanada on Dual! Elie on Ravemaster, etc.)also went by
Georgette Rose the name she used in Dual! because it's her mother's name.

From what I understand, they use nicknames, because of contract rules.

I think contracts for English VA and actors that you see in movies and tv are not the same. When an actor signs, the group or company gets to use their name and likeness (SP), but the actor gets full rights on letting them use their name. Where a VA contract, they get the rights to use their name and keep it or something like that. Under the contract rules, the group or company holds that name that they use untill the end of the contract.

But this doesn't mean that the VA can't go and use their voice in another anime that is licensed by another company. They can use on nickname or AKA name for other voice acting works as long as they use that name under the contract. Plus, I have seen VA use one of their names by more then one conpany.

I don't know how this works out as under the contract rules and stuff, but that what heard on why you will see them use more then one name.
