Re-watching a series...

Postby mizuhara_fan » Wed May 04, 2005 5:44 pm

How long do you guys wait before deciding to re-watch a series? Anything can get boring if you decide to re-watch it a few weeks or even a month after seeing the last episode. So I myself would wait several months after I've seen other anime, just so that the experience can still be fresh when I pick up that series again.

Recently I got into seeing the show after two years of being on the shelf. I was surprised at how much I had forgetton about the show; it's like seeing the series for the first time (well almost).

I've watched Rurouni Kenshin through all the way four times, Gundam Wing through three times, Escaflowne twice, what I have of Gundam Seed twice...wait however long until you want to see it again, is what I think.
I'm a shoe-in for hater of the year.

I usually watch again right away after the first time through to see if I pick up on anything that I missed the first time. Other than that, probably once or twice a year. I try not to let my collection get to big, it's due for another trim.

I tend to rewatch certain episodes of series over and over and over again. Example? I've seen ep 12 of Matantei Loki Ragnarok at least a dozen times. It never gets old.

As for rewatching series, I usually do that on a whim - I've rewatched several by now, and I'm planning an all night Tactics marathon sometime in the near future.

If it's run on TV, I'll watch it even if I don't like it, just to look at the animation techniques.
I can't stand that Fullmetal Alchemist swill, but the character designs, art direction, and animation are great.

I've seen all of the episodes of Giant Robo many times each, because it's just awesome.
I've seen FLCL and Bebop many times through, as well as the DVDs I own.

The first time buy an anime series I usally watch it through in japanese and then watch it through again in english. After that I'll rewatch it whenever I get the urge to, but thats usally not until at least a year has past. Some anime shows are so long or certain episodes are so good that i'll watch them over and over without watching the etire series again, but I try not to do that because if I sometimes i can get a...complex...about the episodes I've seen more times than the others ^_^. Sometimes it REALLY annoys me if I've seen certain episodes or movies of a series more times than the others.

It really depends on the series.

If it's really good, I'll force my friends to watch it and I'll watch it again with them. I've seen several series several times that way.

Otherwise, I occasionally pick through my collection and re-watch something I haven't seen in a while. I'm more likely to pick a short series rather than a long one that way, though. So I’ve seen Dragon Half like a dozen times, but I’ve only seen Trigun four times.

I generally watch a series as each volume comes out. Once it is all collected I like to go back and watch it from start to finish. Then it's usually put up for a long while. There are a few titles I am getting the urge to watch again. It's been a long time since I've watched any Ranma 1/2 that I may delve into that before long.

Yeah usually when I get a series I'll watch it and immediatly rewatch it. Then it's usually put for a few months and then watch it when I get the urge to. So on average it seems that I watch a 26 episode series about 3 and a half times a year...Or something like that.

About six months, generally. If I rewatch at all.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I'll usually watch a really funny episode over again with the kids if it's hilarious. I found myself doing this with episodes of Love Hina (the Final Fantasy one) and Azumanga Daioh (usually the ones at the beach house, and anything with Tomo).

An entire series I've only seen two and that was because I had to review them. Other than that, I don't think I would watch an entire series over again. Oh wait, I did watch Fruits Basket more than twice because I wanted to watch it in Japanese - it's great in its original language.

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

Until recently AU used to recycle their series about once every few months but since they seem to be down to only a few now they've been unfortunately been
reairing them about every other month.

It depends on the series and its replay value. I know that about as soon as I got my InuYasha Season 1 Box Set I started watching it, and FMA didn't take me long either. And I'll never get tired of Ai Yori Aoshi. I guess for most things it depends on how much I like it, but also replay value, like I hardly ever watch Grave of the Fireflies for obvious reasons.

I like watching most of my series again. I find repeat value in a lot of my anime, which is good since I spent the money to own it in the first place.

Different series have different "rewatchable value" - I try to buy only the ones that I will enjoy rewatching. Of those, it depends. I find I can pick up "Witch Hunter Robin" almost any time and enjoy rewatching it...but I thought RahXephon would have enormous rewatch value...I've started it again twice and stopped in the first DVD>

We are doing Blockbuster Online now, so it's unlikely we'll be buying a lot of anime in the near future.

Rewatching Gundam Seed :thumb:
Some things about it I never noticed before:
*Natarle is much nicer than what I had thought before.
*Flay isn't prejudiced as much against Coordinators,in fact
when she's told Kira's one she just says "Oh."and puts her head down
*When Kira rescues the lifeboat and Flay sees him she thinks they've
both been captured by ZAFT because of the Stryke
*No-one outside of ZAFT High Command,Earth Forces Special forces,
Earth Forces High Command know about the existance of the Gundams
*Lt.Murrue Ramius is one kick butt female captain
*The Archangel could fly rings around the Enterprise. :thumb:

It really does depend on the series. I'm going through Love Hina again, but it's been quite a long time since I last watched it. I'm also going through Rahxephon again, however, and it's been less than one month since I finished it!!! Also doing Last Exile to show it to my sis, so that's fun to go through again. I think I really depends on what series, why you liked the series in the first place, and how much of it you feel would offer new ideas that determines how soon you'd go through a series again. That's how I work it anyways.....
