Hi! This manga doesn't have that much violence, but it does have some bloody scenes (when Killua, an assassin, kills someone). There are barely any sexual content. It has a good storyline, that even my parents watch the anime on TV. It's worth to see.

I'll have to disagree with the previous review in some areas. I'd call it "clean" in the sense that I'd read it in public, but it definitely has objectionable material.
The series is nearly constantly violent, and has the highest body count I have ever seen. There isn't any explicit gore, but people are often ripped apart, crushed, bitten apart etc, so there is plenty of blood. As for sexual content, one of the older characters is a pedophiliac and while this aspect isn't explored extensively, it is disturbing when brought up.

uc - how does this anime/manga compare with what you have seen of DBZ (asuming you've seen DBZ to some extent) in terms of violence/blood/gore/brutatily and sex. content?

I've only read the manga, so keep that in mind.
In terms of raw violence (that is, how much of it occurs) there is more, simply because DBZ involves a lot of talking. The fighting in DBZ is more concentrated and longer (more people in Hunter x Hunter have fatal attacks).
Blood: much, much more than the edited version, still significantly more than the uncut. Gore is a relative term, but I wouldn't say it has too much of it. See my previous post for some details on that.
Sex: I don't think either series has any, but in terms of general content I'd say DBZ has more "jokes" related to it. Serious consideration of the subject I don't recall in either. Hunter x Hunter also has the element I stated in the previous post.

another question: you said you've read the manga, have you read past the first volume? At borders all they have available in english is the first volume, just curious where/how you got ahold of more hunter x hunter then just vol.1.

I've read it the usual way, through scanlations. Before I stopped I finished either 14 or 16 volumes, I cannot remember which (this was years ago, before Hunter x Hunter had ever touched American shores). After a while the series felt like it was going nowhere, and the manga-ka is working on it only extremely slowly.

Well I've seen all the anime and considering the story is about 2 kids I thought it was pretty darn violent. The body count was interesting in that many of the charaters get built up a bit before they die so it's not like a random cast of extras that are doing the dying (which makes it more impressionable in my opinion). After the anime I started reading the manga from where the anime left off and the violence is even higher in the manga. I also can't think of any sexual content, but the violence is there and get's worse in the later volumes (at least what I was reading where humans were being slaughtered and stacked up in piles to be used as a food source) bleh..
I would say it starts out less violent and gets darker/more violent as it goes.

darn. i can't believe i didn't notice this thread earlier. well, the anime is a lot cleaner than the manga in terms of violence. the manga can get pretty brutal and very violent at times. like MyrrhLynn said, it starts off violent, and gets MORE violent as the series continues. especially in the latter volumes (like 15 or 16+).

It might be worthwhile to point out that this thread is approaching two years old and was resurrected by a member that is likely a spambot of some sort. The initial question has long been answered. I've been curious about how the anime compared, so this isn't all bad, but keep in mind the thread has served its original purpose. Chances are there is nothing of consequence that remains to be said.

It's rated OT (16+) in America and I've read the first four volumes, and considering the two kids, I've gotta say it's so violent. This is definitely not your average DBZ or whatever. The anime is much lighter in tone and only has a little bit of blood.
