Your opinion on anime girls who wear glasses...

Postby mizuhara_fan » Sat Apr 30, 2005 1:56 pm

I was just curious about the stereotype that you see with anime girls who wear glasses. Do you see them as "nerdy" characters who do nothing but study, or just "cute" characters that happen to be smart and wear glasses?

For me, I kind have a crush on Yomi Mizuhara from Azumanga Daioh. There's just something about an anime girl with glasses that I find to be a lot more interesting than those who don't wear them. Maybe for Yomi it's just the "Daria-complex" I'm seeing?

Besides her, here are other meganekko that I like...

-Fuu Hououjji (Magic Knight Rayearth)
-Ayane Isuzu (Gatekeepers 21)
-Kagome Mishima (Mao-chan)
-Kyoko Tokiwa (Full Metal Panic)
-Fujisawa Yayoi (Stellvia)
-Hikaru Amano (Nadesico)

I can't think of any that I've actually seen, but I think girls look good in glasses in general. The few I've seen in anime have not been exceptions.

Well, they can also be nerdy/clumsy and not a brain. One of the girls in "High School Girls" wears glasses and is a bit on the dumb side...

I've noticed that they tend to be supporting characters, at least in what I've seen. The one exception to this is the main character in Read or Die, but then she also fits the stereotype of the bookworm... So I suppose most of the girls with glasses do fit at least one.

Bishoujo w/ glasses? ME LIKE.

That's almost the sole reason I bought Read or Die. I actually ended up thinking Yomiko as a mediocre character at best.

Now here's something interesting:

Which brings to mind.. how big would Tohru's contacts REALLY be? LOL

I think that Anime girls W/ glassses do seem to be a supporting character..and if they are the main character they are hard to like..(at leasdt in the case of ROD.. I hated that movie..the star of it was really boring...of course she was with or without glasses..)

I dunno.. i like girls with Glasses..because i used to wear them..but they don't seem to animated with seriousness in mind..

I generally tend to like characters with glasses--their appearance, if not necessarily their personality--although there are not very many of them. Aside from Yomiko Reedman in Read or Die, some of my favorites are Claes from Gunslinger Girl (probably my favorite character in the series) and Integra from Hellsing.

Yeah, but she only wears glasses on certain occasions. If only Naru was like her authorized look-alike from Mao-chan, then she would be perfect for the role of glasses-wearing "main character"...

Also, Ayane Isuzu is the main character of Gatekeepers 21. Except for the fact that she wears fake glasses, her appearance does represent a more "pessimistic" stereotype of the more introverted\nerdy types of characters.

Vash's galsses look flippin' sweet, and Yamiko from Read or Die is the avatar of cute. That librarian from Fullmetal Alchemist had a certain charm as well.

The Librarian from Full Metal Alchemist is a book worm, wears glasses and is cute! Too bad she got fired in tonight's Episode. I can't believe that Lt. Colonel Mae Hughes died! Ah man!

There's also that girl from FLCL that usually wears contacts, but we see hear with glasses once, and then again she wears fake glasses with contacts (wierd). Nenene from R.O.D. the TV wears fake glasses too. It definitely adds a different dimension to a character to give them glasses, and then specify that they don't need them.

You know, there used to be a site dedicated to bishoujo with glasses, but it's been down. If I had the time, inclination, and skills, I would make another site just like that.

You mean this site? I remember this place from a long time ago and it has been my favorite reference for anime girls with glasses. Almost everything there is dedicated to meganekko. ^_^

All the best ideas come out of the process; they come out of the work itself. Things occur to you. But if you just get to work, something will occur to you and something else will occur to you and something else that you reject will push you in another direction. Anime girls with glasses rock like no other  The only thing that would be better then an anime girl with glasses is an anime girl with glasses and a big firearm, like a shotgun

The ultimate anime girl with glassas is Yayoi from Stellvia. She is like super cute. The cutest girl from that show hands down and one of the all time cutest anime girls period. Yamiko is awsome and cute two. Her british accent is kinda attractive as well.

BTW: Vashes glasses are cool

Isuzu isn't Ayane's real surname. She used it because she had issues with her father.
Anyway Ayane is one girl with glasses that you never wanted to mess with.
Two words:GATE OPEN! :thumb:
Actually her glasses seem to have been a pretention as in one ep. she
either drops them or forgets about leaving them sitting some place and
when Miu picks them up she discovers that the lenses arent real.
Yomiko is another glasswearing girl you shouldn't mess with even though
she's a ditzy bookworm, she still can literally kill you at least five separate
ways with the works of Shakespeare! :)
Also Nenene in ROD The Tv wears glasses and she's one tough cookie!

That's true, though if you remember in the end she finally finds a reason to not wear them anymore. Her personality with those "glasses" is that of a loner and that's sadly why she wears them.

Of course that doesn't mean that all anime girls with glasses are anti-social. ;)

I don't mind girls with glasses. I like it when some main characters have glasses.

Now Robin makes glasses look awesome.

and so does Gendo..for a guy that is...umm...im not saying he's a girl or anything...or that I am attracted...he just makes the glasses look....irrelevant.

The first one that comes to mind is Kana Iwata of Hamtaro. Sure, she's smart, but kind of cute, too. ^_^ (No, not that kind of cute... she's only 11, after all! O_o;;; XD )
