Anime that you seem to be the only fan of...

Postby mizuhara_fan » Wed Apr 27, 2005 7:38 pm

Are there some titles you feel like you're the only one who seems to enjoy or watch? Zaion: I wish you were here is not by any means a popular series, but for some reason I found it to be enjoyable to a certain degree. The Gatekeepers series is very overlooked title in the anime community and should deserve some credit for being another good Gonzo production.

Oh and has anyone ever heard of Super Gals? I'm guessing only a few out there, but it is really a great comedy on par with Kodomo no Omacha.

Giant Robo. But I've gotten ZIPO and Crack into it, so, more will follow. Until there's an army of GR fans. *o*/

Yes... ;__; I seem to be just about the only one on here who enjoys Hamtaro, and the only one who's even seen or heard of The Bush Baby (likely because the English version was aired only in Canada).

I've actually been wanting to see Gatekeepers. And yes, I've seen Super Gals, and I loved it. I can't wait for the second season to come out in the States.

Otherwise, I guess the anime that I enjoy and few others have even heard of or given a chance would include Aura Battler Dunbine, Comic Party, and Master Keaton. Also, Marmalade Boy is rarely discussed on these forums, which surprises me, since it's an anime classic. Anyway, it's one anime that I absolutely love.

I'm pretty much an Akitaroh Daichi fan, but he's not an anime, he's a director. None of his stuff seems to enjoy wide spread popularity in the states. The upcoming release of Kodoma no Omocha will probably change that.

Green Legend Ran, Miami Guns, Gantz and Abenobashi are anime I liked that seemed to get nothing but bad reviews.

I'm a little surprised by the lack of Marmalade Boy discussions, as well. It shows it's never really gotten much play in the US.

I feel kind of sorry for MelMak and his lone Hamtaro crusade. I thought the series was cute, but he's the only one I recall seeing mention it.

My Hamtaro is Galaxy Fraulein Yuna. I loved that show. I also am a fan of El Hazard – it’s like Tenchi, only it’s good, Bubblegum Crisis (old school), Shinesman, Dragon Half, and Saint Tail.

I've also collected Marmalade Boy and have enjoyed it. In fact, box set 4 arrived just today in the mail so that series is now complete. All that's left is watching those episodes.

I think I'm about the only one here who has watched/and or perhaps likes Figure 17.

Well, I probably WOULD like it, if they'd release it officially in the states...or if I could find some scanlations. Speaking of which, though it is against the rules to post links in threads, if someone knows where I can find scanlations of that series, PM them to me. ^^

I thought we were doing anime?

I have the Japanese Sailor V recently rereleased. From my limited reading, it's pretty cute and wouldn't mind seeing it translated...

I think the people in the world who know about Master Keaton would probably be in the hundreds. Truly a great anime of a different tone and much better than some of the popular "action" packed shows out there.

Yeah, Marmalade Boy Box Set 4 has arrived for me, too. I'm excited to finish the series now.

And I've been wanting to try Figure 17 for a long time. Now that the box set is out, I'll probably get it soon.

Really?!? I guess the character design could turn some people away. But I love Metropolis; it's wonderful.

I'll CKBC (Crazy Kouzu Baksetball Club).

No one really seems to know about it, and all the reviews I've seen have only been mediocre. But I really love basketball and this anime just seems to click w/ me.
Also, Princess Nine is good. Many don't want to give it a try b/c of the idea of girls playing baseball... but it's rather good.

Good news for those of you who mentioned Princess Nine, Super Gals! or Saint Tail--I know Gypsy is a HUGE fan of all three of these.

As for being "only"....I guess I would say define "only". As far as these boards go, I've never heard anyone else even mention Yorodien Samurai Troopers (aired here as Ronin Warriors....admittedly cheesy, old, and a bit lame, but it was what got me into anime). And I'm pretty sure I'm the only one that's seen KKJ and enjoyed it (as well as some of Tanemura-sensei's off the beaten trail mangas, but I don't mind). I did succeed in making lots of FMS fan-girls and boys here, though. ^^ Oh, and Angelic Layer...I never hear that title mentioned either.

Actually, I have a friend online that adores Gatekeepers, and I read the review for Angelic Layer and currently have a copy of the DVD on hold at my library--just waiting for it to actually be entered into the library system. I was under the impression that Metropolis and Robotech (CAM CLARKE SQUEE) are very popular, too, but I've never had a chance to see either.

One anime I'm recently getting into is Princess Tutu. It's girly, sappy, a bit over done at times, has a slightly annoying dub voice for the main character, and yet...I adore it. I guess the Nutcracker music brings back good memories from my childhood or something. I've only seen the first two episodes so far, though, and only discovered it last week or so, so maybe there's more fans than I know.

also, BTW..I've never had a chance to see the anime, but I've read all of the Marmalade Boy manga and liked it pretty well. A bit odd at times, but cute. ^^

Don't worry Melodymaker, you're not alone! I like Hamtaro. Oh, and Angelic Layer rocks! I haven't heard of Super gals or Marmalade boy though... what are those about?

I guess it's more along the lines of "anime that a few people actually know about" and "anime that many people hate, but only you yourself enjoy." All of this can be based on reviews in anime sites and the collective opinions in anime forums you've visited or just personal experiences in real life.

Well the OVA had like 4 episodes I think. I have that, and both Dual and Poly Matrix. All cool stuff.

I thought the OVA started well, but the writers lost the touch half way through. Of course it didn't help that authors like Clements and McCarthy gave away all the secrets... :stressed:
