Has anime "dominated" your entertainment time?

Postby kodachrome64 » Mon Apr 18, 2005 1:53 pm

Is anime the most "dominant" factor of what you do with your free time, or is it simply another form of escapism? Meaning that you enjoy watching anime, but it's just another thing out there along with books, music, movies, and video games.

Increasingly over the years, my shelf (and my budget) has been dedicated to anime. I don't know why, but it seems that I have grown more into anime that I have with other entertainment. In fact it seems to complement other things in that area as I listen to more J-pop and have built a manga collection that I read.

I still watch shows on television sometimes and the occasional American toons, but anime has gotten quite addicting lately.

So I'd say for myself, anime makes up about 80% of my entertainment...

I didn't realize how dominant it was until everyone at work got shocked when I told them I watched an episode of CSI.

Yeah, I watch more anime than anything else. Not that I consider it a bad thing or unhealthy. =3 Having all anime OSTs on my iPod is also a great way to keep people from stealing it to listen to my music.

Person: ....*picks up iPod, looks at songs* uh...
Me: <.< huh?
Person: It's all in...JAPANESE
Me: Yes.
Person: *hands iPod back* get some real music.

I watch alot of American movies, but I watch an equal amount of anime.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I would say my time is split down the middle. Anime is definately my hobby of choice though.

Not really. I don't participate in a lot of traditional entertainment anyway; but anime has only a reasonable place in it.

I try to make sure that I don't watch too much TV. Usually I have it on as background noise (like right now). My personal anime collection is pretty small, I have four series and two anime movies on DVD. So I think the anime stuff is pretty balanced with my non-anime stuff.

It's hard to say in my case. I definately keep up with anime a lot better than I do any other diversion (though video games comes in close second) But the truth is, I don't really watch a whole lot of anime at all.

Anime is most of what I watch. But I also watch other movies, as well as M*A*S*H (best comedy ever IMO), and every now and then super hero-related shows.

Anime, and reading scif\fantasy while at work on lunch break. So I'd have to say that anime dominates. But once I get a motorcycle, I suspect my weekend watching time will be cut WAY down, since I'll be out cruising the backroads of NH...

Oh yeah, anime has dominated my entertainment time. I play video games more than I watch anime but yeah...I find myself watching anime more than I do watching "regular shows" or sitcoms.

And I have to agree with Jeikobu, M*A*S*H is a really good comedy.

Anime used to take up ALOT of my entertainment time, but now it has dwindled to 0. I haven't watched a series in yonkies! Manga fairs slightly, but not much, better. Basically, my spare time is either on the comp or drawing.

Nah, Anime doesn't take up much of my time mainly because my collection is so small right now. And also cause I don't have high-speed internet of any form, so even bittorrents are out of the question (unfortunately). And yeah, you gotta be in certain moods to view certain animes, so that's another factor.

No way, it takes up very little of my time because Anime is very expensive in Australia and I only have free-to-air tv and that shows next to no anime. I've bought some and I have some manga but I spend much more time surfing the net, drawing, reading and thinking up ideas for my novel.

No, I spend fairly little time watching anime anymore. Much more of my time is spent on books and music, although not all of that actually counts as entertainment. Spare money, when I have it, has often gone towards buying manga, but I spend very little time actually reading it.

I'd say that anime is one of the most predominate forms of entertainment for me. I watch it just about every chance I get. Which isn't a ton or anything but it is quite a bit. Besides that I read and draw a whole lot. But yeah, anime is one of my main forms of entertainment.

lol, i have no tv set at college, if i want to watch any tv, i have to go to the lounge or watch with a friend, plus i have no time anyway. the only tv i watched this whole school year with the exception of holiday breaks, has been Monk and Stargate and the occasional movie.

so no anime other than the one or two i own. at least until this summer. i am so setting the timer and recording shows, since i won't be home 5 days out of the week, due to my job.

manga, however, i do have access to, and it consumes a very large chunk of my reading entertainment currently.

Anime is definitely the most dominate hobby of mine, it uses up the most of my resources. Time wise, though, I may spend more time on video games than anime, though. It's close.
