Hey eveyone, another thread by me.

When you guys create your costumes for cosplaying, how much do you spend on extra trinkets and so on? And what do you usually buy exactly?
I've created a costume of my favorite character from Aldean Chronicles, however, originally it cost only $60 to create, but since I went to the renissance fair, which my costume fit perfectly ( A rogue Christian Monk/ Paladin and Demon Exterminator), anyways, I spent over $120. Now I've aded another trinket to it, and it only cost me $56. So that's over $200 so far, and I'm probably never going to get done with it. :hits_self

Hmm...right now the Ichinomiya Kantaro cosplay I'm working on right now cost a grand total of $15. I bought fabric, thread to match the red fabric on the hakama, and glass beads and bells to make the bracelet. I'm probably going to end up spending another $45 or so dollars for a wig, beads to make the rosary, and tabi socks. So that's around $60 total. Without the wig it'd be closer to $20 So I probably spend more on extras than I do on the costume itself. XD;

$60 compared to over $200, no that's money smart and down right knowing what your character looks like and etc.

Well, things are a good deal cheaper when you make almost everything yourself. Beads and cord to make a bracelet are around $3 and you have plenty of materials left to make extras ( :lol: I have 6 bracelets now, just like Kan-chan does. XD). On the other hand buying the bracelet would've probably been $15+ more expensive. Making the hakama for the costume was around $8 for fabric and thread, plus labor. >> Getting one off the internet would've been over $100. :sweat:

well on my cosplay for the future (neji from naruto) im going to be spending about 30 dollars or more on the sandals (making or buying them) 15-10 for the pants (the easy part) 30-50 for the contacts 15 for the headband and 10 or so dollars on assorted things (wig pouches wrap ect) and however much it costs to make the coat/shirt (see the tutorials section because i have not a clue on how to make it)
personally i think its worth it to upgrade your costume, seriously if you are truly into the cosplay you should. one of the coolest cosplays i have ever seen was a knightmare (soule calibur 2) the guy said it cost hime 200+ to make the armor and sword but he had a crowd around him a lot of times. and that is the ultimate goal of cosplay

I don't think the amount of money spent on the costume is a necessary indicator of how good it is, persay. There are some costumes that will just cost more to make thm look good (anything with armor, for example), but if it's just clothes that require sewing, I don't see anything wrong with being as cost effective as possible. My best costume actually cost under $20. :grin: But it's also partially due to the fact that I look a bit like the character to begin with.

Sheesh, if I add any more to my costume, I won't be able to walk, even with my staff. Spending money on a costume I suppose it the do-ers choice. If they want it to klook very good, I'm sure that they would spend alot of money. However, if they do look close to the character that they want to cosplay, it would be alot simplier. Luckily for me, my costume won't turn me into an elf, since the character I'm portraying is in his human form, so he can somewhat blend in with the Japanese population in 500 A.D.
