Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Eh, wouldn't selling it to someone be encouraging them to watch it? That would be a bad thing right? I say toss in the trash... Besides, it is just a cartoon after all.

awwwwwwwww man!!! i just bought this DVD!!! (like an hour ago, thinking it was ok! (i paid 6 dollars) should i burn it?)

that stinks!! and i really thought this show was good!! *sigh*

Watch it, if you don't like it, toss it. Personally, I've seen the first 3 volumes and I've had no problems w/ it yet (haven't seen the whole series). ALthough I don't condone these kind of series, the idea doesn't really ruffle any of my feathers either... I mean, to say not watch it because of the implication of "pre-martical sex" is saying that the other members here shouldn't watch Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings because of Sorcery aspects, Cowboy bebop or Trigun because of violence, or Love hina because of the suggestive dialouge and language. Everyone has their own tolerance. I guess it's a battle of give and take and people have different stances on what they find morally acceptable or not.

Some pick and choose morality, which I don't necessarly agree with;
Example:socery or violence is okay but implimation of sex isn't

I don't agree with it but it's not my choice, it's theirs. Though, we are all somewhat guilty of this to some extent. I'm talking about the hard-core extremist. Anyways, I'm not saying do or don't watch it, but my advice is do what you believe is right, not because others see it as right.
If you feel that you shouldn't watch it, then dont. Re-sell to someone who does want to watch it, or just toss it. If you don't think it would really bother you much, then whatever... Use your conscious, not somone elses.
Just my 2 cents :P

I think I've watched the whole series and have concluded that, just like another Gainax title, it's a very entertaining and fun title if you only watched it to a certain point. I enjoyed the early episodes of this series and don't think you would miss out much nor compromise your faith if you stopped 1 or 2 episodes before the one where
the main characters sleep with each other. It goes pretty downhill after that.
However, I watched this series 2 years ago. I might have forgotten any questionable content before the episode I spoilered. Let me know if I did, pls. Hope this helps. ^__^

I agree with Mave that this is an enjoyable series up until that fateful point of premarital sex (I think we might as well just talk about it openly now).

What got me about the scene is that it's just so blunt in suddenly showing you what happened after the fact (two characters lying in bed together after sex), but even more than that, just the "laissez faire" (let it be) attitude about it. I think it's the bluntness and the sheer surprise and lack of fair warning that gets most Christians here not liking it. We see premarital, teenage sex often condoned in American TV shows and movies, but Kare Kano's treatment of it is just... different.

I know that's what turned me against it, at least.

Possible Spoilers, But Probably Nothing That Hasn't Already Been Said

OK, given that all that's in the open, here's my take:

I agree with others that the physical relationship between the two main characters seemed incongruous with the characters and with the series itself. They had their first kiss... they had their second kiss... and they're suddenly going all the way? And, as has been pointed out, afterwards, there's very little mention of it, except...

... and this is the point where the anime could have turned this around to some degree (maybe some of you had stopped watching at this point, I don't blame you). There was a moment in one of the last episodes where Arima starts reconsidering what he did. Granted, it was not the "gee that was wrong", but more along the line of "gee, that didn't have the effect on the relationship I thought it was going to". That's probably a great lesson that people of any age could use BEFORE they get physical. I know we rarely see it in Hollywood.

By this far in the series, though, Anno (the director) had left, the storyline was in shambles, the manga author and GAINAX were at each others' throats, and the whole thing was headed earthward in a flaming mess.

Have you ever had the feeling in an anime that the characters are being "used"? That is, you think you are dealing with a particular set of characters with a particular set of morals or beliefs, and suddenly they just do 180s on you? That was the experience of Kare Kano to me. I suddenly didn't know Yukino or Arima anymore. It seemed the whole physical thing was meant to propel the story line, and was inconsistent with the characters. It may have been the way the manga unfolded, I don't know. But it was tremendously disappointing.

A great series, well-executed, but by the late episodes had irreversibly lost its way and sunk into the great GAINAX swamp....

Is there a middle grounds? Is there some episode that would have been a nice ending before the prematial sex?

i did watch it.. and it wasn't as bad as i thought it would.. (still kinda ticks me off...though.. -.-.. and i agree it was definatley fan service.. merely a ploy for ratings... Man, and at the beginning of the maga series i believe the author said she didnt want this to happen or at least hinted that she didn't.. that is why i bought the dvd. I still really want to like this series, but the whole morning after scene.. was a little sudden... (it didn't surprise me as much though because everyone was talking about it..)

However, i tend to want to say that while this did happen, it can also be said that it is a mistake that some teens make, maybe to writers wanted to make the charas more real.. (dumb writers... cartoons cant be real LOL)

but, the thing i always keep in mind is this: sin is sin, its equal as any other.. no sin is greater than any other.. no matter which way we look at it.. there is lying in anime.. but do we stop watching a show because someone lies?

I have friends who have done this, but i don't stop being their friends..

I am in no way supporting pre marrital sex at all! So please dont think i am..

(i am just glad that they didnt go into any detail.. and i have watched till epi 20 and there really isn't any mention of it..yet.. (i hope their wont be much more.. ) I don't know if i am gonna buy the rest of the series.. at this point its a little frusterating that all i have been buying are things that are offensive . maybe i should just stick to animes i know a lot about..i had only seen the first 2 episodes of Kare Kano, but read episode summaries up till 17. soo yah.. >.<

DONT BUY THE UTADA EXODUS CD (she sings the kingdom heart theme songs) ITS REALLY.. secular.. and i regret spedning the 14 dollars...)

Its kind of strange how they pretty much going from having a first kiss then making love like... really quickly after... making the first kiss was like a big step for them.. and yeah the end kind of sucked.. it wasn't really an ending. The ending came after the sex, in a not so exciting little story arc..

I'm just curious, what do their ages have to do with it? It's not like it would be more right if they had been in, let's say, their mid-20s. This whole idea that things are less ok when someone below a certain age is doing them is something I find a little offensive. Whatever happened to "Let no man despise thy youth"?

You're right, Brandon. It wouldn't make it more right if they were older. But it does seem worse when young people are having sex.

I saw a show on EWTN one time about sexuality. It said that recent research has found that there are hormones that are supposed to encourage monogamy. It says that sex is increases their secretion and that it's the main reason that some marriages seem to have lasted so long (I'm talking like in decades!). If that's not an advertisement to wait, I don't know what is.

Well, for one thing, we need to be ever vigilant not to take Scripture out of its context. When the apostle Paul said that he was talking about ministry, not sex (Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity). I think Gypsy's main point was simply that these two people in question are minors, and that, since the show's target demographic is also minors, these show could be particularly damaging because it send the message "Hey, look! They're my age! If he can do that with his girlfriend-- gosh darn it-- why shouldn't I!"

It's not that premarital sex is ever right, but it's the fact that this show supports these kinds of relationship in kids. Yeah, not really a message that we need to have supported anymore than it already is in our society.

Well, to be fair, anyone who'll let their decisions be influenced by a work of fiction has bigger problems...
"People who sin say this, 'That they had to, to survive.' People who sin say this, 'That it is too late to stop.' That shadow called sin dogs them steadily. Without a word, remorse and agony are repeated, to finally end up at despair. But sinners don't know that if they turn around there is a light, a light that keeps shining on them ever so warmly, a light that will never fade."

I would disagree. Basically every day of our lives we consciously or subconsciously let media (ficticious or not) affect us. Companies advertise because people constantly allow the images they take in to affect what they think and the decisions they make. A Colgate tooth paste commercial which features an unnacttractive young man using Colgate tooth paste and then getting kissed by a girl says "Buy our tooth paste, and you'll get the girl." A beer commercial featuring a thirty something, attractive man partying in a bar while promonently drinking a Budweiser beer says "Buy our beer, and you'll have fun." In an episode of "Sex and the City" Carrie Bradshaw wores a horse shoe, diamond necklace. Within weeks, thousands of girls were demanding the necklace. The media we take in will ALWAYS in some way affect us and our decisions to some extent or another. Why else would we be commended in Phillipians to think only on things which were paiseworthy?

Futhermore, part of the issue here is that if I buy Kane Karo, I send what economists call a "market signal." I say that I approve of this product. To accept this kind of promotion of premartal, juvenile sex isn't something I'm willing to do.

So, yeah.
