where do ya'll get you're anime?

Generally, I sit down and draw each frame by hand. After 24 drawings, I have one second of animation. Next I use a thick tracing paper and trace each frame with ink.
After that, I paint the reverse side, then take a shot of the frame.

So, I repeat these steps.

Then, I record voices, throw everything into Premiere, arrange it all, do camera pans, and add in the music.

With just one person, it takes about 9 years to do anything. This is where I get all of my anime from.

Very funny Impact!

I buy my anime from two shops called Ezydvd and JB-Hifi.
And I borrow whatever anime is available at the local library - but it is usually the obscure, not so good one's that they have.
Isn't downloading episodes illegal? Shouldn't we as Christians not "steal"? (just a thought)

That has been my opinion. Of course, in the past I've paid for fansubs, so my conscience is not clean either. Since my supplier told me that the latest MPAA actions made him decide to quit, I figured that's a good reason to stop. Of course, if Negima shows up on eBay, my resolve may be tested.

From what I gather, legally it's not so bad if you actually buy the material when it becomes available because the sale has been made. Theoretically one *could* argue that if one throws it out after viewing it, that's OK too, though I wonder how many people actually do so. Keeping the fansubs without buying the official version (when it becomes available) strikes me as piracy.

I used to buy anime at my local Suncoast, but they're pretty pricey, so I started buying online. I like http://www.bestprices.com (thanks, bobtheduck!)

RedNewt wrote:I have several thoughts about downloading anime.

First, the MPAA will only come after to you if you are sharing, which is required by Bit Torrent, a movie made or liscensed by a member of the MPAA. They have nothing to gain by going after people downloading TV shows, including anime series. The television networks do not, at this point in time, have an organization designed to protect their products. The companies that liscense the anime could legally sue you for trafficing their product on the internet AFTER it has been liscensed.

Second, the companies that liscense anime seem to have mixed views concerning fansubs. I don't have the link right now, but I remember one representative of a company saying that fansubs were great because it was like "free advertisement." However, there are also some executives who have very different views.

Really, it comes down to what your moral values tell you is right and wrong. I don't think fear should dictate what you do in this case, but rather what you feel is right. We all know that once the product is liscensed, it is most definitely wrong to download it, but when the program is unliscensed, do what you think is right based on your beliefs. Personally, I have no problem with people downloading unliscensed anime because some of it will never make it out of Japan otherwise.

The one problem I have is that it's easy to justify "what you feel is right." From what I've seen, the issue of fansubs tends to become "I want to see it so it's OK."

Some interesting moral discussions can be found here:
http://members.tripod.com/~AvatarHR/legalfaq.html

This is more of the "Why the MPAA has to crack down on violating foreign rights: http://www.law.cornell.edu/treaties/berne/overview.html#18

When done right, fansubs don't seem so bad, but I tend to find that most people don't buy the legit release.

ANyhow, torrents are out for me due to the security hole...

Well, that depends. Basically, it's technically illegal to download everything that is licensed. But most things I download, I don't see as illegal. Let's say you download a TV show that isn't sent in your country yet, but is gonna be sent there later. Is this illegal? IMO, no. But anime is a little different, as they are not sent on any TV stations (or none in my country :p), and then I would think of it as illegal, IF you don't plan to buy it when available on DVD.
Movies is a little different, but there I download movies that is been sent on TV in my country before, and I've had the possibility to record myself. But sometimes newer movies too, though :p
I don't either think it's illegal to download a game to try it, if there is no demo version.

My view on what is illegal of downloading

In America, it is illegal to do these things, though almost never enforced. For your own country, the law may be more lenient

And (not directed to AnimeHeretic here) we're not going to discuss the legality of it on this board, since it just tends to make people mad -- we have people who will vigourously defend either view. For reasons of liability, we don't allow those sorts of links here; do what your conscience directs you on your own time, of course.

Anyway, back to the thread topic.

No hard feelings, but you might want to start posting some of the forbidden topics on the FAQ, because this is the first I've heard of this not being allowed. If I'd known, I'd have stayed out of that part

That's reasonable. I'll put it up (there are other things that probably should be added anyway, so we'll do it all in one fell swoop).

I get mine mostly from Hastings. I work there so I get a discount. If we don't have a manga I go to Barnes and Noble.

ummm.... no... you can try to get some legit stuff off e-bay that's being sold from Europe some of the "powersellers" base themselves out of Europe. Make sure you know what you're getting tho. most of the anime on e-bay is bootlegged. If you ok with that then go at it, but if not just do a little research first and you should be able to find something. :thumb:

They still good prices even when its not a pre-order (usually 21 dolalrs for 30 dollar retail).. Although I also recommend best buy, just purchased Nausicaa fromt here for 17 USD$
