Favorite Miyazaki/Studio Ghilbi anime?
I'm a big fan of Miyazaki films (actually anything by Studio Ghilbi for that matter). Laputa: Castle in the Sky is my favorite out of all the ones I've seen. What about yours?

Wow, that's a tough one. I guess Spirited Away would be my pick, since I got to see it in the theater, which made the viewing experience so much more special. Seeing a Miyazaki film on the big screen is something that must be experienced to be understood.

Yeah, if I were to put my favorites in a list it would look something like this.
1. Laputa: Castle in the Sky
2. Princess Mononoke
3. Spirited Away
4. Grave of the Firefiles
But I agree, it's really tough to come up with a list because all of them are so good!

Since it may fit here, I saw three films at Wal-Mart today...Nausicaa, Porco Rosso, and The Cat Returns. Which of these would you consider really good, in order? And why does Porco Rosso have only Japanese and French? Not that I would've watched it dubbed, but it just made me wonder.

When Miyazaki tries to cross over to older audiences, I am disappointed by the results. I think Mononoke was just plain awful, I didn't like Laputa. Spirited Away could have used some more plot development. I haven't tried the new releases yet. I worry about Nausicaa because 1) the manga was excellent and I think the anime won't match up and 2) Nausicaa has been proclaimed to be the ultimate anime for years-- will it live up to the hype?

hmm...I can't speak yet b/c i've only seen Laputa and Princess Mononoke, both of which I adored for completely different reasons. (Laputa for it's innocence and gorgeous art....Mononoke for the plot/characters/general enjoyability)
But I have Spirited Away and Kiki's Delivery Service sitting next to me. *happy happy*

I want to see Nausicaa though. From what I've heard it was pretty good. What do you think of the Cats Return? Is it good...or not so good.

Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.
Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

I've seen it before on fansub. It's GREAT! Though I havn't seen Nausicaa, so I wouldn't know how they compaired. Anyhow, the Cat's Return looks gorgeous, has a good story, distinctive animation, and some comedy too. I'd recommend it to anyone almost.

I'd have to say Princesse Mononoke and Laputa (just finished watching it again) are my two favs...Grave Of The Fireflies and Castle Of Caglistrio are also good.

Castle of Caglistrio is a Lupin the 3rd movie. It has a bit of cussing and some violence but nothing over the top. It's better than all the other Lupin stuff out there...

It was also one of Spielberg's inspirations for "Raiders of the Lost Ark".
As for Porco Rosso (kaemmerite), I've heard that the French dub is excellent and fits the setting better. Some people I know of said it's actually best to watch the French dub with English subs...

Miyzaki/Ghibli filmz
Grave of the Fireflies is at the top of my list for its drama. I really have never cried so much before watching an anime, it'll just simply break your heart!
I really enjoyed Kikki's Delivery Service ^_^ Very light hearted and charming story.
After that itr's a tie between Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke, for originality, artwork, scoring... Love it
Although the characters all tend to look very simmilar from one movie to the next, they're always a wild journey.

Well, according to Anime News Network, it was co-produced by Ghibli. I'm not sure that that makes it a Ghibli film. Besides, it doesn't seem to be listed on Nausicaa.net (the English Ghibli site) anywhere.

I’d have to say my favorites are Nausicaä, Laputa, Spirited Away, Grave of the Fireflies, and Castle of Cagliostro.
But I like all of Studio Ghibli’s films I've seen – Kiki’s, Mononoke, Porco Rosso, Totoro, they’re all worth watching.

That's a tough one, I love all the studio Ghibli films. I guess my favorite ones are Spirited Away, Grave of the fireflies, and Princess Mononoke. I heard Their new film Howl's Moving Castle is also awesome, and i can't wait to watch that one. ^__^

Tonari no Totoro is the first one I saw with my sister (Namida) when we were 6 in 1996! One of my favorites!! Oh yea I wanna see Howl's Moving Castle too!!

Anyone know all of Miyazaki's films or a place that lists them all? I've seen Mononoke and thought it was great, but I want to know all of his films.
