where do ya'll get you're anime?

I was wondering where everyone gets their anime to watch. I personally rent for a local corner store in my area that has quite a selection. Do you guys have the same type of thing or do you buy it all for keeps?

I download fansubs when the series is unliscensed, and I usually get my DVDs from Best Buy or Suncoast. (but only Suncoast when they're having a sale. =X Otherwise it's far too pricey for this high school student)

I mostly buy my anime. There's a local store near me called Kenmore Komics that stocks a lot of anime, so there's where I buy most of mine. I also shop online at http://www.RightStuf.com. They've got a great selection, too.

Usually get mine from Best Buy (Used to be SUncoast, but other distributors caught up to them in diversity and are cheaper).

online, it's usually TRSI, Amazon for manga. http://www.cdjapan.co.jp for foreign stuff.

Don't do torrents because the MPAA has been starting to look over there, and I really don't like the idea of someone being able to look on my computer-- I have a hardware firewall on account of that...

Used to get fansubs by mail but my supplier said he was quitting because the pressure and the moral issues were troubling him...

I preview series by downloading the first few eps using kazaalite at work. Then if i want to buy something, i always use http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com. they are always just about the cheapest and have free shipping no matter the order size.

I will sometimes download the first epiode of the anime or look for infomation on that anime. However, I then deleate that episode.

I usually buy stuff at Media Play when I'm out. I've been going there recently (proably cause I'm a Replay member). I alot of my shopping online at animenation.

I'm just guessing but I think I've spent close to 700-800 dollars on anime -_-;;

That certainly *is* cheap. How reliable are they? DO they screw up often? and how long does their stuff take to arrive?

Well, I've only ordered twice, but both times were $300plus orders :red:

and i had no problems. Everything came and nothing was broken or backordered. So i can't speak of what their service is like if something goes awry. But like i said, i've had no problems.

oh, time for arrival. Given that i placed my order during their annual 20%off sale[off their already low prices, whooot!!!!] and they were swamped with orders, it took about 3 weeks before it came. But since free shipping is the mediamail, i can't complain...

I buy nearly all of my anime from Digital Eyes (through their Anime OneStop store) and from Right Stuf. Digital Eyes has amazingly cheap prices, great service, free shipping (media mail), coupon codes, and a neat little point system to earn store credit. Right Stuf has some great specials each week (and the rare daily special that's worth buying), as well as the Got Anime discount for 10% off.

We don't have a Best Buy nearby.

The closest one is about 2 hours away.

I buy the majority of my stuff from Amazon and occasionally Best Buy and Right Stuf. Rarely have I purchased from Suncoast.

Most of my used titles were from GameStop until they stopped carrying anime.

Media mail, that explains how they can eat the shipping cost. Not the most reliable method though. What guarantees are there against lost shipments?

(Still, it's cheaper than EMS from Japan :sweat:

I rent from Netflix or download off of mIRC (note to self, get BitTorrent soon!). I buy online at stores like BestPrices.com, or RightStuf.com if they have a good sale going. I would like to know if Japanimation.com is good as well. They have alot of good stuff, I just want to know how reliable they are.

Where do I get my anime....
My list...
1) Best Buy... with the employee discount it's much cheaper then almost any other store. So if I feel it's a must own, I'll see if Best Buy has it.
2) Fry's. They also sell a bunch of anime.
3) Suncoast. If I can't find the anime anywhere, usually I can trust Suncoast to have at least one copy in stock.
4) NekuNeku. It's an anime rental place here in austin. ALthough I don't purchase them, I spend a lot of money there, a lot!

Though sometimes I order online from a few places:
1) ebay
2) animecornerstore.com
3) animenation.com

I just went and took a look at their site. Their non-import stuff seemed reasonable in price, and might be real. Their "Imports" are doubtless Taiwan bootlegs. I personally try to avoid doing business with companies that do this.

I download fansubs until they are licensed and after I watch them I delete the episodes from my computer.

If I like the series enough, when it comes to the states I buy it. Although it always takes me a while to get through buying the series since I'm a poor high school student with no job. >_<

I'd rent from some place, but unfortunately I know of no place that has any...except for like...Blockbuster but their selection is...uh...lacking, to say the least.

The majority of my anime is purchased through BestPrices.com. Some I get at Best Buy and I get my Maison Ikkoku Box Sets from RightStuf.

Ya, I know how you feel. I checked into Blockbuster a while back and looked over their anime section. At least they *have* and anime section - two of the other rental places I usually use don't have anime. But ya, Blockbuster doesn't have too large of a selection...

I was planning to start a thread to query y'all about where you rent / buy anime and I chanced upon this - thanks Olorc. ^_^

I've downloaded unlicensed Torrents too, since I'm kinda new to anime and therefore don't feel confident enough in specific series to shell out for DVDs at BestBuy (closest physical store for getting anime around here, that I know of). I wish there was a rental place nearby so I could check out licensed stuff and see if I'd like to buy it.

Oh, the troubles with being a minority among the non-anime-watching majority...

Well, I just joined the online blockbuster and I'm soaking up all the anime they have available. As far as buying anime goes, I usually purchase it at Best Buy. It's really the only place around me where you don't have to fork over your WHOLE arm and leg. They only require a large portion of those limbs.

The Best Buy I live near has hardly any anime. When I visited thier last, they had only two series that I would like to have (Noir and Samurai Deeper Kyo) and for both, they missed the first volume. However, when I went to Media Play, they had 7 series I would to of had at that time (two that I started collecting - RahXephon and Witch Hunter Robin) and they had all the DVD's that were released.

Perhaps it's regional. I live in the bay area, where you have to shove your way into the anime racks because it's so crowded. Between Suncoast, Frys and Best Buy I can pretty much get anything that's not obscure (and that's what TRSI is for)

The closest place to me that carries anime is Suncoast. I know it's expensive, but they also have Pocky, anime soundtracks, and J-rock there, so I'm not too mad about it.

American people are so lucky! It's like one single store I know of and can buy from that have anime in my country, and that is expensive and have almost no R2 DVD's

And I don't have a region-free DVD player, so I can't watch R1's (gonna buy one soon, though)

Well i mostly rent my stuff from the libary and all the dvd's I have I got from Best Buy but my friends get their stuff from Animeniacs they sell every thing! reagon 0, 2 and some 3 dvd are what they be sellin.
