Full Metal Panic?

Postby madphilb » Sun Jun 15, 2003 3:09 pm

Does anyone know anything about Full Metal Panic.

I picked up a copy of NewType USA and the 1st of the series was included on the DVD (with "demo - not for resale" plastered all over the vide :D ).

Anyway, it looked pretty funny, it's got a 13+ rathing I think though... and I saw that Suncoast Video has the 1st four epesodes on DVD now as well....

Anime Cafe didn't have a review that I could find... I guess it'll get covered over time...

Yeah, I also got the NewType and watched the Full Metal Panic demo. It interested me, so I too went to Anime Cafe (which for the record is not always completely current and you have to wait a long time for newer anime titles to show up). Then I went looking for other reviews, and found not a whole lot except that a 15+ rating is maintained through the entire series and there is "fan service." We all know there are different levels to something labeled fan serivice, so I guess we'll have to wait a little longer, huh, Phil?

I saw the first couple episodes (maybe up to 5) about a year ago or so. I really can't think of anything that anyone would really find all that objectionable. Certainly far less so than say, 'Chobits'
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

I got the DVD from NewType too. It looks pretty kewl so far, even w/ the 15+ rating lol. Isn't there a series explanation in NewType? The manga excerpt was funny XD

Yeah, I've been reading the manga right along in NewType. So far it's been pretty good. Since it seems there are some other NewType junkies around here too, have you guys noticed that Animerica seems to be echoing NewType, just on a smaller scale? I'm still buying Animerica, but I find NewType much more informative and worth the money. Not to mention the magazines are of higher quality, print resolution, and filled with extras. Although 9 times out of ten, I won't use the posters or pinups that come with it, I have yet to see anything completely objectional. By objectional, I mean the fact that Animerica is usually geared more towards the male gender by their content, NewType tends to even things out a little more.

Yeah, I agree. That's why I wanted a subscription to NewType till it was $90 lol. It's worth it, but no one in my family believes that but me XD

Yeah, they are expensive, but I usually get my moneys worth. Yet, it's rather scary to count the number of issues I have and figure out how much I spent on them ...

Same here lol, I'm like "Woah! I could have like bought a new house or something!" I get Shonen Jump & NewType right now, but last year I was buying all those 20 pg individual monthly mangas for $3. I'm glad SJ is so cheap, it's a really good deal ;)

I think I'll check with my local Blockbuster and see if they have the 1st DVD of the series, a rental wouldn't be too bad.

I guess it's basically just too new of a import.

Ok, I finally watched it(the 1st 4 eps anyway lol). It's a really good series so far & the plots are thickening too. It's still revolving around Sousuke & Kanami & Captain Tessa(MITHRIL's sub captain i.e. she's incharge of the submarine) has been introduced. I can't wait for dvd #2 to come out !!

Well, it's really funny, got about 1-3 cusswords per episode, great characters w/ different personalties, etc. What's fanservice?

Fanservice? Basically - nudity for the sake of nudity (and other such things). I'm sure there are others who can give a much better definition.

That was in the 1st episode wasn't it?

Might have to see about picking it up, but NEXT month... I swear! (I've already spent way too much money this month on "stuff" )

have seen all of full metal panic, and the follow up (or rather concurrent) series fmp - fumoffu. What can i say, love the characters, love the humor, the story & it is cool. not that much in the way of fanservice, save the last couple of episodes - the 'inside the computer nude ghost scene' and in fumoffu the hot springs episode... (lots of strategic item placings), fumoffu is just the day to dat school events while the original series is both main story and school stuff, but fumoffu has the best er. reccuring character thingy... BONTA-KUN! that last remark confused you? you have to see this
Largo (Megatokyo): "Its this thing... and its like, cool... and it does things... cool things!"
