Emotional responses to an anime.

I must be the a big softy. I watch some animes and find myself really getting into the emotions of the characters. I wonder, I'm a 20 year old guy and I feel all sad when someone dies. Yea I must be a softy. Not that thats a bad thing when it comes to stuff like that.

The worst is Samurai X. I can only watch this movies so much. They are just to loaded for me to handle on a regular basis. I watched Reflection and it took me like a day to get over the thing :shake: Its about the same with Trust and Betrayal. These two where like the first animes that really got me like that.

Now I am watching Gundam Seed, and its starting to get me too. Its a great show but its heavy stuff. Call me insane or crazy. I mean this show really gets you into the characters emotions and pain. Its getting more tedious to watch just because of its emotion punch. I am enjoying it though.

I don't cry at movies. They just get me deep down. I mean, I am fully aware thats its not reality, but those writers are good if they can invoke that kind of reaction. A character that you find believeble enough to feel for is a well written one.

Anyway I just guess I wanted to say that. Another friend of mine watched Samurai X Trust and Betrayal recently and though it was great, rightly so. But the movie really didn't seem to get to him like it got to me. So I am wondering if I am just to easily manipulated by the writing of a show.

Eh, I say hardly, and you aren't alone really. There's plenty of anime that have enough drama and a compelling enough storyline to involve any viewer of any age. I've seen more than enough anime that definitely captured my emotions and almost caused me on the verge of tears (Grave of the Fireflies, Now and Then Here and There). I wouldn't call yourself emotionally fragile for tearing up on some quality anime.

I get so attached to the characters that i too cry or feel anger at the villian who's doing everything against the hero. I think i feel the full range of emotions, not just sadness. I rarely cry, but i did when I saw Noir and Kirika going through all the pain she goes through near the end of the series. Emotions are what make us human.

I'm really emotional to begin with, so yeah, a lot of anime tends to get to me. I remember crying in an AnimeExpo video room while watching Kare Kano and completely embarassing my friends. Fushigi Yuugi, 08th MS Team, and Wolf's Rain also got to me. ^_^; Oh, and then there was the time I was watching Matantei Loki Ragnarok fansubs....Heimdall died in an episode and I was crushed. I mourned for weeks...T^T I wore black and wrote him a eulogy.
But then, of course, you find out Hel rescues him. :shady: I felt rather silly after that.
I had tears in my eyes during Fushigi Yuugi, Rurouni Kenshin OVA, Pokemon (hahahahahahahha), and I was on the edge of my seat for a lot of episodes of Gundam Seed. Oh, and I threw stuff at the TV during a few parts of Neon Genesis Evangelion... does that count?

I cry a lot during anime too... :/

Fushigi Yugi...oh, and FY: Eikoden. I burst into tears at the end of that. Then there's Sailor Moon (on the bridge in Marine Cathederal) and Ai Yori Aoshi...Trigun too...come to think of it, I cry a lot during anime... :/

When I first watch Trust and Betrayal, I cried a bit. Defiently during Grave of the Fireflies...even my dad shed a tear.

I don't cry as much as I get depressed. After any anime is over and it was a big series, I get depressed. For instance Evangelion, Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, and 08th MS Team. Other stuff I became depressed from was Voices of a Distant Star and End of Evangelion (I was like camotose the entire day after seeing that  ).

When I finished watching Reflections, I was quiet the entire night.

Yep, I cried when I watch Full Moon, and I was deeply depressed by Grave of Fireflies.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I was miserable at the end of the Cowboy Bebop series and had some bittersweet feelings at the end of Escaflowne TV series. Evangelion gave me an number of of anxiety and misery moments as well. I didn't cry but it left me quite sad for a while. T_T I cried at Lion King though. *runs away as thread members pelts her with rocks*

I cried at the end of several anime series, but rarely have I cried in the middle. This leads me to believe that either the ends are really good, or I'm very sad it's over.

Voices of a Distant Star made me turn my TV off and sitting still to think for a while (I know I'm stepping in it here, but for me to sit and be doing nothing except thinking is very rare). At the end of Alien Nine, I couldn't watch anime for a week because it crinkled my mind so badly.

As for different emotional responces, I get inspired by anime very easily. After watching Comic Party, I would draw like a crazy person. After watching Fruits Basket, I'd vow to become a better person like Tohru. After watching Princess Nine, I ended up contacting a lot of old teammates from various sports that I hadn't seen for a while because the anime reminded me how special the team relationship is.

The list goes on and on. However, it's not just anime that touches me so - it can be long running sitcoms (like Facts of Life) or very good movies. Still, anime tends to get to me quicker than other medium.

Samurai X can be very serious and emotional, but no anime is so hard to watch as Grave of the Fireflies. Easily one of the saddest films I've ever seen, if not the saddest.

The end of Cowoby Bebop...awesome, yet sad at the same time... :sniffle:

Alot of parts in Trigun.

Giant Robo. Single most emotional anime I've seen. It's a drama...so...sad...and amazing... :waah!:

Speed Racer had me bawling.

Casshan had some cool/sad parts.

Shin Getter was so ridiculous I cried due to the pain it caused my head.

I think its the hallmark of a good anime that you get emotionally attached to the characters, and actually care what happens to em, being immersed in the story, the environment, i just feel thats how it should be.

Awww, I'm probably tha biggest emotional softy. I'm not sure if I should be admitting iths, but there are lots of anime that gets to me. Gundam Seed has gotten to me a couple of times. Esspecially when Cagalli gives Athurn a hard time for killing Kira then they both start sobbing. I was right there sobbing with them. Ooh, here's another one. Tha epiisode of Fushigi Yugi called "The Child Of Silence" when Boushin runs through Hotohori. Good thing no one was there with me (wipes away tears)!!!

My mom thinks I get too into things. She says I should never watch horror movies. ^^ I get into anime and go "awww" and gasp at the appropriate times and everything. However, nothing, and I mean nothing, makes me cry. Sometimes I'll get tears in my eyes.

Oh, I totally understand what you mean!

One day I confessed to a bunch of friends that I had sobbed my eyes out at the end of Full Moon Wo Sagashite, and my nineteen year old male cousin looked at me incredulously and scoffed "You cried at a CARTOON!?"

The funny thing is that I really don't cry at any media but anime. There are only a handful of real movies that have made me cry, but I'll get sniffly at anime all the time.

My brother is the same way. When I watched Fruits Basket I actually teared up at the end. I told him and he acted like I was certifiable insane, well not that bad but he thought it was weird.

I don't really cry at real movies either. Must come from being a serious animenut.

Okay, two things: One, spoiler tags would probably be apprieciated by people who haven't finished Trigun. Two, I have good news for you. You need to skip over to my site (link is the Trigun-nekos in my sig), where I've got some comparisons on the differences between the anime and manga versions of Trigun. One of the HUGE differences concerns Nicholas dear. He's one hundred percent alive. Or at least ninety percent, after that thing with Gray...

Yes, they would. Please use them for large plot revelations like that. You do them like this:

I watched Reflection and it took me like a day to get over the thing Its about the same with Trust and Betrayal.

Same thing with me, except Reflections took about three weeks. When I saw T&B for the first time, I was so depressed that I flopped over on the floor and stared up at the ceiling...I didn't even want to eat...o_O (I did eat, don't worry, I was just mopy and sad...)

Oh and ask anyone who knows me how I took Reflections. :sniffle:

Wolf's Rain was sad too. I HATED IT WHEN
Toboe died
I don't know. It's just that when someone promises to protect someone else and they fail, it just gets to me.

About the Wolf's Rain sadness...
Toboe's innocence. It's understandable since he's a wolf, but he wanted to help the crazy hunter guy (I forget his name) even though the hunter wanted to kill him...and since I studied wolf behavior, I know that's probably what a wolf would really do, so...it was just...awful. :waah!:
Also in Wolf's Rain when...
Toboe killed his owner. *waaaahhh*
:sniffle: Anything with animals has the tendency to move me like that...:(
