I would personally liked to have Naruto done by 4Kids but thats just me....::dodges fireballs throw my Mr. Smartypants::

Im kidding...if any...i would like to have seen it liscensed by Bandai. I could see the voice who did Spike in Bebop (Steve J. Blum I think his name is) do Kakashi's.

I could see Crispin Freeman voice Zabuza's voice. Naruto's voice is kinda hard to think of a decent VA for.

Depend on it. God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply. He is too wise a God to frustrate His purposes for lack of funds, and He can just as easily supply them ahead of time as afterwards, and He much prefers doing so.

I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

Cartoon Network announced today that they will be airing both Naruto and One Piece. One Piece will begin in May and Naruto will come online in the 3rd quarter (August/Septemberish) which shows that Viz has had ahold of Naruto for some time and indicating that the dubbing process has already begun.

I have pondered the original attack names myself (though I do condemn changing Byukagen to Evil Eye while leaving Kekkai Genkai alone). Because I have respect for the Viz method of translation, I thought that perhaps the original attacks were named in similar style.

But ultimately, I would value quality over author's intent, when the author's intent is lame.

I can agree with that. I'm not a filmographer. What good is authenticity if you're not having any fun?

One thing that does concern me about this, though, is that if the attack names are as prosaic as I suspect (and I would still like to hear from a native Japanese speaker as to how well these names "work"), it is entirely possible that watchers of the fansub watched a Naruto that is essentially different from the one seen by Japan or that will be seen by American viewers this fall. This could provoke a lot of unneeded animosity, and it raises some interesting questions like, if the show can be improved by substituting cool names for ones that were originally lame, why not substitute good lines for cheesy ones, or good voice actors for bad ones, or just rearrange the show so much that it is in every way superior to its original incarnation? At what point would the translation become an original work? It's something to think about, even if it isn't entirely practical.

Naruto is licensed? On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do I care? Hm, a 2.

Naruto is okay, but I never thought it was that great.

I think that is funny that they change their mind so fast with picking up rights for Naruto.

When they said this just last month.

I wounder if they were holding out on really saying if they got the rights for it or something untill now.

In reality, those kind of fit thier characters. Johhny Young Bosche is a great voice actor as well as Steve J. Blum. They would awesome with those characters.

The VA for Heero might work if he can pull of a young yet depressed voice (kinda like Heero's but not as depresing).. As for misty...it may look bad on paper but I won't pass judgement quite yet. She may pull through. It can't be overly peppy yet have a happy voice. persoanly, I'd prefer Dorothy Meleandrez (Kaoru in Kenshin, Merly in Trigun, Naru in Love Hina) as Sakura.

Some others I thought would work great:

Wendee Lee (Cowboy Bebop, Witch Hunter Robin, Outlaw Star) doing the voice acting of Anko, and Kurenai.
Sparky Thorton (Saitou in Kenshin) voice acting Iruka
Haku is hard to say but most lieky, it will be either a girl or a guy with a femininete voice. I can't think of one off hand (sorry but thats all my Naruto knowledge goes to is a few episodes after Zabuza and Haku)

I'm not going to panic.... If it was last year, I would most likely be disappointed upon hearing this, but I haven't been downloading the episodes recently.

The only thing that I'll have to get used to is the lack of fansubs to download and the long wait for the DVDs. Until then, the manga will do just fine.

As for the voice actors and editing.... I'm not that disappointed, especially because Naruto's not going to be on the Fox Box (major edits to One Piece weren't appreciated >>). Actually, I'm looking forward to being able to see Naruto on TV.

As a big fan of the show, however, I can only hope that the changes aren't too significant, especially in the area of drama/action. If they make the series too "young" or "immature", it will be less enjoyable.

Predicted change #1:

Haku will be a female.

Does anyone else have any other predictions for potential changes?

Will this be on during prime time or Adult Swim? If the former, I would predict that Naruto will not stab his own hand following the assassin brothers. Also, that Kakashi's book will receive a graphical edit of some sort, or at least a title change.

I would imagine they will be trying to get their DBZ crowd back so they will either air during the Meguzi (if that's how it's spelled) lineup in the afternoon, but more than likely during their Toonami block on Saturday night.

Well, CN is not a distributor or dubbing company. So more than likely they will use the product that has already been produced by 4kids.

I have no idea why they would change Haku to a girl. This isn't 4kids or DIC we are talking about here, but Viz/Shopro.
If they know what's good for them, they aren't going to annoy Naruto's huge American fanbase too badly...
The main edits that I predict will be content edits to line up with Toonami's standards. For now, I'm assuming that the DVDs will be unedited.

Anyways, I had been wondering when this was going to get licensed.

They usually provide unedited DVD's as well as edited I think. I expect when it airs on Toonami, it will will be edited. However, I don't think they will just have a edited DVD. They aren't like Funi or 4Kids, at least I don't think.

I highly doubt they would make Haku a girl... that would upset way to many people. I'm interested in what they'll do to Naruto's "sexy no jutsu"

Viz doesn't provide edits, typically. All the series of theirs that I have are unedited. If the show *is* going to be edited for TV, I would doubt Viz would release it in that form.

I heard that ShoPro/Viz is only the "middle man" in this licensing business... They might sell Naruto to a larger company. I read this information on narutofan.com and it upset me... I really don't want Naruto to be on the Fox Box. At all. I will not blame 4kids entirely, but Naruto is a series I've truly come to love... in its original form.

They'll probably just put a digital bathing suit on her. =P

You shouldn't worry about it going to Fox Box. Since Toonami pick it up and the only other place that it could be shown on is WB.

Eeeviiiill!!! No really though, don't buy the Hong Kong import DVD's. They're bootlegs. I've been fooled in the past by them. The domestic DVD's on that site are good though. Just so expensive... *sigh*
