Yeah I have seen it :P it is like a suphero cartoon trying to be an anime and failing to do either in the end. But then again I just really didn't like the show. :( The characters seem too recycled. Aqua boy/lad (whatever his name is) was the only one I liked.

Teen titans is not a true anime. It was distributed by Cartoon Network as an american-made cartoon that tried to mimic the immense popularity of anime, going so far as to get a Japanese cover band to play their theme song in both languages. It's so obvious to a veteran anime fan that, while its a good attempt, the creators didn't quite capture an authentic anime style...it feels a bit fake. Not to mention that the lip-synching perfectly matches the English voice actors down to every last syllable -- that's a dead giveaway. ^^;

[quote="Kat Walker"]the lip-synching perfectly matches the English voice actors down to every last syllable -- that's a dead giveaway. ^^]

That's a stereotype. Most recent anime I have seen has excellent lip-synching. Look at some of ADVs stuff, Cowboy Bebop, the Disney produced Miyazaki films, and many other recent titles for examples of good lip-synching. There are very few recent animes that have lip-synching as bad as Speed Racer.

However, I do admit that they are trying too hard to mimic anime in Teen Titans. However, I do love the show. The characters are well developed and some surprising twists were taken. The show is humorous at moments with very good humor, but is serious when it needs to be.

Maybe it's just me, but the style in Teen Titans seems more Korean than Japanese (telling from what I read of Ragnarok anyway. I'm no expert on this). The animation was done by a Korean studio.

In it's defense, the artist has stated he was never trying to mimic anime. However, he had a great deal of anime influence in his art. As such, it comes through quite heavily.

I do agree the show tries far to hard to be funny. However, I can say exactly the same of many genuine anime. For that matter, it's actually better than a lot of anime I know. When he gets into action scenes, however, he uses a bit more his own style, which I like more.

I have always thought of it as a borderline. Like, getting people use to the Sweat Drops and crazy hair without getting all the way into it.

But i like the show, i think Beast Boy's funny. But i don't get to watch it that much, School kills Tv time. But hey, some people like it, some puke when they see it. ^_^

Just my opinion!!

Raven's the best. Seriously, can't get over her. She reminds me of me in some ways. Except I don't wear a cape and I'm not all THAT sarcastic.
"So David said to Michal, "It was before the LORD, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the LORD. And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight. But as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honor."

Haven't seen it yet but I want to. It's supposed to air on WB sometime or other probably in early 2004.

I'd say it isn't. The shows good, but it doesn't have the Japanese-ness of anime.

i dont like "super heroes" in the classic sence,so i find little i like about the show.it does have its moments when it can mimic anime funny moments with over blown expresions, but thats all it can capture from the anime.

the theme song is catchy though...you say there is a japanese language version??

The theme song is actually in its original format, as far as I know. Partially in Japanese. You can find lyrics relatively easily on the internet.

I feel it has influences and perhaps "copies" anime a bit but no its a cartoon and not a very good one either.

i saw it at the mall today and almost couldn't believe it... whether it is the origin of the show, i cannot say cause my sister pulled me away to read Demon Diary #3 and the new .Hack comic...

Teen Titans has been around in comic form for a looooong time. I thought it was fairly well known. It's from DC comics. It should be easy to find info about it on the Internet. The cartoon may differ a bit from the original, but you should notice at least one of the characters from DC Comics comic books.

Actually, all five of the new Titans were in the original comic. Of course, they've recieved long due makeovers. I never really liked the comic. But I actually don't think the show's that bad.

Otaku, out of curiosity, have you seen "Nevermore?" Best episode, in my opinion. Actually has character development and the like.

I personally think its pretty lame. Warner Brothers shouldn't try to imitate a styl like that because they just don't fit good together. I've seen a few episodes and am not interested.

Actually, I liked the old Batman (the animated one that was on late 80s early 90s or thereabout). Then they changed the animation style (the one we've seen again in Batman Beyond) and to me it was just ugly (not to mention the plot went downhill, as far as I'm concerned). I mean, if they go full blown anime (which, as far as I can tell, TT isn't; but I haven't seen the show, just the commercials) that would be fine, but don't go half and half, please...just pick one style and stick with it.

Not to jump on your back, inkhana, but give such artists a break. Every style is but a creation of different aspects, coming together in a format that has been in use for some time. Combinations are not such bad things at all, just people willing to be more creative. Admittedly, if they just try to copy two styles, that doesn't work.

Completely off topic, the original Batman movies are worth watching. For comedy value.

Yes that is where my e-mail name comes from. I remember I posted at one of the biggest Batman boards back then. (Ha! not that there were that many! The internet was tiny!) The site was called the Lazarus Pit I think. Hummm... fond memories. That was "back in the day" where direct linking to a picture in your post was considered "cool" not "rude that you are stealing their bandwidth".

Anime is not a genre, its a medium.

If it looks like anime and feels like anime (which teen titans does in a lot of ways, then yes its anime. It doesnt have to come from japan to be an anime.

It may not be the best anime but in my opinion it still is an anime.

I agree.

I am looking forward to watching it when it comes to WB. I've been a fan a previous DC-comics based animated shows like Batman and Superman as well.
As for whether it's anime or not, well, for someone who's Japanese, yes(remember that Japan considers all animation "anime") and for someone who's American(or any country besides Japan probably) probably no since we use the term anime to distinguish between Japanese and American animation. It hasn't been the first American animated show to have obvious anime influences in it although it's perhaps one of the most obvious so far and I can assure you it won't be the last. Remember, a lot of the top animation producers and directors and writers and whoever in the U.S. are big anime fans themselvers.

ther term anime has no one consistant meaning even in the US, so I guess it could be... I dont' consider it anime... I say anime means JAPANESE animation thus nothing american made is anime... Of course, then you think about how many hannah barbara cartoons were partially made in Japan by Japanese animators a long time ago, but they're not anime... For me to call it anime it needs to be made wholly in Japan from start to finish (though it could have pre-anime origins from outside of Japan, such as "Nadia: Secret of the Blue Water")

Anime to me= Made in Japan with a Japanese audience in mind.

Money, get away
Get a good job with good pay and you're okay
And all and all you're just another brick in the wall
Shoutin’ in the street gonna take on the world some day
But Bismallah will not let me go
Because I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

Bright eyes burning like fire
And exposing every weakness
However carefully hidden by the kids

Who will love a little Sparrow

And if the band youre in starts playing different tunes
We will we will rock you
