Most important people in anime

Postby rocklobster » Wed Feb 02, 2005 12:02 pm

I'm thinking of writing a book to accompany my website. I plan to include a chapter on people whose work I think newbies should acquaint themselves with. These are the people I've come up with so far. (I only decided to list someone if he or she had at least 3 titles legally released into the US)
  • Osamu Tezuka
  • Shotaru Ishinimori
  • Leiji Matsumoto
  • Yoshiyuki Tomino
  • Rumiko Takahashi
  • Yu Watase
  • CLAMP
  • Kajishima Masaki
  • Kosuke Fujishima
  • Akira Toriyama
  • Katsuhiro Otomo
  • Shinichiro Watanabe
  • Rin Taro
  • Koji Morimoto
  • Hayao Miyazaki

Is there anyone I should include or is my list thorough enough? I'm thinking of doing a separate chapter for studios. :?: BTW, I know that Hajime Yatate (or Yadate) is just a fake name that Sunrise often uses, so that's why I've excluded that name from the list.

Yoshitoshi Abe. He created the stories of Lain and Haibane Renmei, although I don't believe he directed either one. He was also involved in NieA Under 7 and Texhnolyze (I am not familiar either of these anime; I merely mention them because of your 3-series criterium.)

Best of luck with your book, if you do end up writing it.

Yukiru Sugisaki authored DNAngel, Candidate for Goddess, and provided the artwork for BrainPowered. Whether those are important or not, I'll leave to you.

Gypsy will kill you if you don't mention Megumi Tachikawa, who authored Saint Tail, Dream Saga, and Mink.

Personally I'm bummed I can't include 2 of my favorite mangaka, Natsuki Takaya and of course, Tanemura Arina because neither have more than 3 titles in the US. ;__;

dont' forget Hajime Yatate.

Mind you, he is not a real person, but a pseudonym used by Bandai for the group of people who create most of their projects (this name hasbeen used in the creator title of all things Gundam, and most other Bandai projects, including Cowboy
Bebop).

Then there is Tomino san, the other name associated with most thigns Gundam and is an actual person.

Yoko Kanno.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

Yoko Kanno, Yukiru Sugisaki, Hayao Miyazaki, Hajime Yatade top the list for me. xD; I'd say Sakura Kinoshita, too, but that's because of my gigantic fangirl bias. ^_^

I really like Akitaroh Daichi. His work ranges from the weirdest comedies to the most gut wrenching dramas.

Right Technomancer, you beat me to it.

Hiroyuki Morioka - Wrote (and is in fact still writing more for) the Crest of the Stars novels that later got adapted into anime. Worth mention because of the detailed and epic nature of his novels. A true nerd, he even created his own language (the Abh language) for the stories. Talk about creating your own universe for a sci-fi novel.

It's kinda off-topic, but I included a link on constructed languages from wikipedia. I had no idea that many people were interested in that sort of thing. Conlang

Masaki Kajishima - He's worked on the Tenchi movies, Bugglegum Crisis, and did the characters and story for Dual! (PTA).
