I've only seen the anime of two of the many manga series I read (Full Moon and Fruits Basket). That's just the way I am.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Ah, you poor poor soul, watch the Scryed anime, it's 2656547457124236363134 times better than the manga. *nods*

As for manga, I've seen the a couple episodes Shaman King anime, but I've read so so so much more of the manga, mainly because I only have easy access to the 4Kids-ized version of the anime. T^T

Usually, if I actually buy a manga it is either one for which there isn't an anime at all or one that continues the story past the point where the anime ends. Wanting to find out what happens after an anime leaves off is the most frequent reason for me to look into a manga series.

There are, however, a few manga I have read for which I have not seen the corresponding anime. I have read all of Love Hina but haven't seen the anime (and don't intend to). I have also been reading Get Backers. I have heard that the anime series is fairly good and, unlike the manga, doesn't contain much fanservice, so I wouldn't mind seeing it.

Actually I used to only buy the manga for series' that I had already seen (thus, I knew if something was clean or not rather than investing a lot of money into a manga series I might hate [a la faerie's landing, bleh] ). But I've definately come away from that....
Anyway, here is my list:
DNAngel
Aria (does it even exist? O.o)
Azumanga Daioh
Magic Knights Rayearth (and II)
Time Stranger Kyoko (it was an uber-hard-to-find OVA)

Yup yup. I saw a copy on Ebay once. I didn't buy it because one, it was overseas, and two, it wasn't even subbed. You had to read along the script...and to me that was way too much of a hassle. ^^;

Getting back to topic. I get a lot of manga that I haven't seen as anime. Actually, I frequently find that "the book was better."

I don't have a DVD player so buying the manga is the only way I can get to enjoy or even get into series that I would not otherwise be able to watch.
At least for the time being.
Generally I love series that have some humor to them.

DNAngel
XXXHolic
Lament Of The Lamb (there's even a live action movie in japan)
Samurai Deeper Kyo

I know that there are at least five or six more that I've read but never seen. But I'm pulling up blanks. There are also quite a few that I've only seen about 2 or 3 eps of. Such as Ranma 1/2 and Maison Ikkuko.

Wow.. there's so many people here that have read the DN angel manga, but have not seen the anime. >.>

And to think I got hooked on it through the anime.

Anyways, to get back OT.

Full Metal Alchemist
.hack//legend of the twilight

those are the only two... I just started getting into manga about 4 months ago. So if anyone has any recomendations of good mangas I would really appreciate it. ^__^

The replies are suprising me! No kidding, but usually Mangas are taken as blue prints for Animes so I'm kinda startled to see that people are buying Anime and Manga in that order and not Manga, then Anime - but I'm more or likely the same as yours or do Mangas count that don't have an Anime counterpart yet?

Some Mangas I've read before seeing the Anime:

Yakitate Japan
Hajime no Ippo
I'm guessing D.Gray-Man and Death Note will have an Anime version soon so I'll list them as well
etc

 I was about to ask "Yakitate Japan has an anime?" Yes, there is a manga since I've been reading it since last year. ^_^

I usually read the manga first before delving into their anime counterparts of many titles I love since 1) the anime versions tend to butcher the original stories (Ex. Rurouni Kenshin, IMO) 2) it takes less time to read a manga volume than to watch the anime episodes that cover that whole manga volume.

However, there are titles that started off as an anime first such as Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop or even sCRYed (pls correct me, I could be wrong) and I'm not even sure whether some titles have manga versions (Ex. Vandread, Me My I Strawberry Eggs, Jubei-chan....do they?)

The few anime I watched first before reading the manga are Fruit Basket, sCRYed, Escaflowne, and Hana Yori Dango. To answer the original question of the thread, my answer is this: Too numerous to list.

*quietly sneaks back in* Oh cool! ^^ awesome! Lol, yup, there's an anime. Makes me crave for some bread whenever I watch it...

Yea, the anime sometimes does tend to butcher the manga. *coughDNAngelcough* And Shaman King. The manga is much better. Though the DN Angel and Shaman King anime was bad because they made up their own ending..-_-;

Mmhm. Vandread. I thought there was a manga...well, maybe not. I thought I have have seen it in passing, though I may be wrong. ^_^;; I tend to imagine things sometimes. O_O

Hm. Is there an anime of Yu Watase's Alice19th or Imadoki? Imadoki would probably be a fun one to watch...xD

Actually, in most cases, I've read some of the manga before I've seen any anime episodes.
