G Gundam is pretty under rated. It's a bit super-roboty, but a very cool series. (And, being under the director of Giant Robo, Yasuhiro Imagawa, it's gotta be neato)

Also, Casshan is really unknown, but pretty nifty. It's not amazing, but worth a view at least once.

^ I agree with you wholeheartedly about G Gundam. Critics have been quite harsh on it.

I think Big O is underrated.

Zoids. New Century Zero and Chaotic Century. I loved them both, and they both got the shaft.

Super Book and Flying House. They were my first anime, and they deserve their dues.
Yeah, I'm that opinionated.

So otaku, but not...

Pokemon is underrated. Especially the movies--they're actually very good.

Agasfas--Ceres is sexual so I don't know if it's underrated...

Trust&Betrayal is underrated. Beautiful OAVs. :D

Spriggan is sometimes criticized for not having a very deep plot. While the plot could have been better, I found it more than adequate to keep my interest; I think that it is a good action movie even though it isn't terribly profound.

Gunslinger Girl is an anime that has yet to be released in the US, although the first volume of the manga is in stores now. Besides being relatively unknown, the title is somewhat misleading. I found it to be thought-provoking and moving, although one would not guess as much from seeing the title.

Forgive me if this is gravedigging but I didn't want to make a new thread since one existed.

Underrated Anime
Air TV - Words can't describe this anime.
Kanon - From the creators of Air.
BECK - One of most orginal anime I have seen.
Beet the Vandel Buster - I bet only a handful heard of this one.
Tsukuyomi Moon Phase - Ever heard of this one?
Shingetsutan Tsukihime - Same question stated above.
Trinity Blood - A new series that came out but will be popular very soon.
Turn A Gundam - A Gundam series that few heard of...

Rune Soldier is one; one character is rather scantily clad, and some other minor incidents of fanservice, but nothing horrific. Hilarious show! Geneshaft wasn't half bad either!

AD Police TV
I like it, very few others do.

Dragonball (Original Series)
An excellent series that is often skipped because people connect it too much with DBZ. Dragonball is a more comedy adventure anime with a great plot.

Generator Gawl
Great series with a surprisingly fantastic English dub. (From ADV no less!!!)

Nadia
I pity you if you haven't seen this. A true classic.

Angel Sanctuary
Just kidding. I wouldn't touch this with a 12 foot pole. Or even a 30 foot pole.

DIGIMON!!!

Way too many people write it off as Pokemon's wannabe younger cousin when it's a much more satisfying show.

Personally I think Beyblade is underrated. Even though I haven't seen the whole thing, or even a whole season yet (though I've seen a lot from two seasons), I don't think it's as awful or boring as some people say.

Sure, it's kinda kiddy. And sometimes it's campy. But... that's fun! Things like that can be relaxing. And the characters are fun. What more can you ask for a nice, relaxing anime? It's also quite clean.

EDIT: At least what I've seen on TV is very clean.

Yu Yu Hakusho rocks, but it's undervalued. I'm probably going to get flamed, but I always liked Robotech, even if it was a butchered version of different series.

Gotta agree with Big O; it's got its haters, but it was one of my first addictive shows. Props to Shao Feng-Li for mentioning Cyborg 009.

I'm disappointed Detective Conan (Case Closed) hasn't gotten the U.S. love that it has in Japan. Also, I'm only catching the AS version, but so far I'm digging Paranoia Agent; unfortunately, it seems the public at large isn't.

No hate for the Robotech here. I remember back in the day, stalling every second I could so I could catch the end before I dashed off to my after-school job as a grocery clerk.

While I'm here I'll put in my usual plugs for Twin Spica and I'm Gonna Be an Angel. In the world of anime, Twin Spica is a very different animal - poignant and subdued without becoming tedious or overbearing.

I'm Gonna Be an Angel has, well, issues, but technically I have yet to see better animation anywhere, series, OVA, or theatrical. It just shines and moves and works in a way that puts others to shame. If it weren't for some content issues and a rather unfortunate design motif I could wholeheartedly recommend it as the best anime of all time.

I love Beet! It's a really different adventure series... ok so it has some tipical qualities of that of long-running series also shown in Shounen Jump, but it's still a good anime! (Not licensed as an anime yet, of course so yeah fewer people would hear of it).

Magic Knight Rayearth is one I'll add because I know people like the manga when it comes to the anime.... *should pick up the economy boxset!* Even the Rayarth OVA I found good!

Angelic Layer is quite underrated too. People look at my DVD collection and just take a glimpse of it and pass by it :/

Digimon also... such a great series and after 4 seasons, it changed just enough after every season to make it different and new so we wouldn't grow tired of it^^

A Girl in Gaea/Escaflowne the Movie is one I'll add. So many say it was horrible but I REALLY liked it! (Seen it before the TV series and I find them both good in their own ways^^)

Gakuen Alice is also sooooo good! It's basically Harry Poter meets Azumanga Daioh! (No joke!) Once again, only found as fun sub for now.

Monster Farm/Monster Rancher was another series I was hooked on for a while when it aired... of course it never grew in popularity :/

Lastly... Di Gi Charat! Although the characters are popular images, I like never hear peopel talk about the anime! Well, still waiting for my limited ed. of it to be shipped here >_<

Isn't this a fairly recent series? It may simply not have come to people's attention yet. Judging by the few episodes I have seen, I thought that the basic concept and graphics were both good, but I wasn't extremely impressed by the overall story.

Narue no Sekai.

With the exception of a gratuitous wafts exposing underwear (a few seconds in the titel and onl once or twice in the actual show IIRC, an extrememly sweet and otherwise squeaky clean romance with silly SF bits thrown in.

Please Teacher!

Though it has it's rather explicit moments it is FUNNY. By the third disc I admit it gets to be a lot more like a drama but hey, it can't be help. When you see what it was originally meant to be... yeah. I'm really glad they toned it down. Also...

Hyper Police

Just a classic. It's one of the first anime's I've ever bought discs for and, lone behold, it's a rare one. And funny to boot
