Anybody still enjoy "mainstream" anime?

In terms of the anime that is aimed at younger kids (like Digimon, Beyblades, Medabots) do some of you guys still prefer watching kiddie anime?

While these types of shows are a little out of my league in terms of my viewing preferences, I somehow find something charming about such shows. Not that I take the plot seriously as they are aimed for kids, I still enjoy watching these shows on rainy days alongside my fansubs and anime not on television.

Dittos on Angel's comment. I was (I guess I still would be if they still aired them ) a major digimon junkie. I'm talkin' about the first two season before they totally changed the cast *shakes fist at Digimon producers*. I loved/love that show!

I hate mainstream

Kididng...I don't usually catch myself watching that type of anime (if it's a type) however I do watch Yu-Gi-Oh time to time (if that's mainstream and nothing else is on).

However....I have a fairly good and large anime collection so if I desire anime, I just pop a dvd in

THe only "mainstream" kiddie stuff I go for is Digimon 02 (I want to see the original Japanese SO BAD) and some Yuugioh

I make a huge distinction between "mainstream" and "children's". To me, mainstream is anything that's popular--rurouni kenshin, cowboy bebop, inuyasha, fruits basket, etc. I actually like the anime they put on TV *hugs Cartoon Network* because even if it's edited it's still way cheaper than buying boxsets (I am, after all, a poor college kid). As long as it isn't horrifically dubbed, I'm ok with it. I like just about all of the above mentioned titles except for RK and Inuyasha *runs from the fangirls*

LOL, what can I say...I like children's anime (or mainstream...depends on which definition of Ashley's you're using). I guess it's because I was raised up watching cartoons, and it never really went away...

I love Pokemon, Digimon, and Yugioh!! Pokemon is one of my all time favorite animes, as my screen name and signiture should show I just recently became obsessed with Digimon Frontier, the 4th season, and started reading tons of fanfics for it. Hooray for Junpei! Junpei/Izumi forever!!!

The only one I really liked the most is, I think Series 4.

Were the 4kids get on a train and end up in the digital world. Then each of them gain the abilty to transform into a Digimon then, they can "spirit evolve." Overall, it is a guilty pleasure and I am quite ashamed... oh well, what ever

Yeah, I'm the same way -- I was brought up on the good old classics like The Flintstones and Looney Tunes and many others, and I still enjoy them. Even my dad enjoys watching good old cartoons. My mom once posted something long ago at Anime Angels that went something along the lines of...

I don't think you can ever be too old to enjoy a good cartoon.

Heh, I actually used the word "mainstream" in the sense of "anime that an elitist will laugh at you for watching" kind of way.

I enjoy Digimon as well. Especially the 4th season (which I have no idea why so many people hate it so much.) It's a cute show to watch and it can get pretty creative with the monster-of-the-day battles that happen. If anyone remembers Medabots, it was actually quite an underrated show in the anime community. Though I guess some people often mistake bad dubs for bad anime.

What do you guys think of the "mainstream" shows on FoxBox? (Kirby, Sonic X, or even that racing show I don't know the name of.)

It's not my cup o' tea, but it's better than anything America is putting out these days. My younger cousins are into Yugioh, so maybe someday I can get them started on some of the better stuff out there. One thing that bothers me about them is that they all seem to be just huge marketing ploys to sell trading cards and the like.

No. I dont watch "mainstream" much anymore, except the rare Yu-Gi-Oh episode. I do read the Yu-Gi-Oh manga though, but it is extremely different from the anime.

Don't like Pokemon, haven't seen Yu-Gi-Oh, but I really enjoy Digimon. It was shown so early in the morning though that I've only seen maybe 7 episodes of seasons 1 and 7 of season 2. But what I've seen I really enjoyed.

Hmm... I used to watch tons of kiddie anime... I tend not to watch any of it anymore, but I could still enjoy watching things like Pokemon, and the first and second seasons of Digimon. If nothing else, it brings back memories from years past.

Oh yeah, Monster Rancher was awesome... That was like... the coolest.

Oh geez, now I feel like watching these shows... ^^;;

Medabots (season 1)
Digimon (season one and especially two)
Shaman King
One Piece
Angelic Layer
Yu-Gi-Oh (I've given up trying to stomach 4Kids at the moment, but once Yami Bakura gets back into it, I'll start watching it again)

Pocket Monsters is my favorite all time anime. Always has been, always will be. over 350 eps, 7 (and soon 8) films, and a good handful of special episodes (like the Raikou, Mewtwo, and hosos), and still excellent. It's entertaining and a good wholesome show without any nudity or fanservice, and the only cussing I've heard is words like kuso (kid of in between d@mn and sh!t, but cussing isn't taken as seriously in Japan apparently). The only bad thing I can say is a few selects eps have Ghost Pokemon as the focus and I'm really against them, but that's another discussion, and it depends on how they're used also. Besides, Pokemon always teaches great themes and morals, especially the value of friendship. Long live Pocket Monsters! ^^
