Stratos IV anyone?

Postby P_Metheny » Mon Jan 17, 2005 11:41 pm

Okay, I pretty much know nothing of this series and I would like to know if it's worth seeing it. From what I heard, it's about a group of girls who go into space and save Earth from an asteroid. Though I also heard that there might an emphasis on fanservice in this show, but I might be able to stand it if there is actually a decent plot in it.

What do you guys think?

I've seen this series and I was pleasantly surprised by it.

There is a bit of fanservice, mostly concentrated in the beginning. There's no nudity and very light language, but there are shots that are obviously drawn to provide fan service.

The series starts out a little slow as they develop plot and characters - I wondered after the first DVD if they were going anywhere at all with the story. At that point, it appeared that fan service was the primary goal of the series. However, a more sinister plot begins to develop that goes far beyond just a bunch of pretty girls trying to make it through training.

If you have a big problem with fanservice, the first two DVD's will be a little hard to get through, but the story they finally get around to telling in the last two DVD's mad the whole thing worth while to me.

I wasn't really impressed too much with this one. Be warned that part of the plot involves a woman who brainwashes other members of the space crew by way of kissing them (including the other women on board).

I would recommend Stellvia if your looking for this type of title. I am finding it far more enjoyable.

Thanks for the input guys. So far I'm getting mixed messages as to whether or not I should pick up this series. Are the Lesbian scenes rather overt in nature? There is only so much fanservice that I can stand before turning down a show. The premise of the show sounds interesting and I might be able to watch through it if the story picks up the second half.

I myself have seen Stellvia and was looking for something around that angle. It seems like Stratos IV is a little different than what I expected...

Oh, yeah, I forgot about that. Those are some awkward moments, another example of plot device through fan service. The story would have been better with out it, but I do like the intrigue the show managed to drum up by the end.

Yes I have both seen and loved this series. I wasn't really looking forward to it at first because of what people are saying about fanservice. The thing is, it really wasn't the point of the series and subtle it may be, it didn't ruin the experience of the show.

Definately recommend it for the short episode length (13 eps) and a really fun show to watch with great characters. Mikaze is the best! :)
