Forget plots, characters, ...sense...

Postby Joshua Christopher » Tue Jan 11, 2005 12:40 pm

Okay, forget all about drama, plots, and character development.

This thread is devoted to one thing, fights. Discuss your favourite battle scenes.

Even I'll admit, I got into anime because I saw lots of fighting action... now, I've grown out of that, but I still love all of the horrible things like Fist Of The North Star and Dragonball Z...X_X

Anyway, just tell us about your favourite fights.

I love it when Kenshin fights Hiko Seijuro to learn the ultimate technique of hiten mitsurugi-ryu.

I like how Sailor Moon fights -- she tries not to if she can help it.

My turn, yay!

Hajime Saitou! Kenshin Himura! Awesome cel animation!
Cliche, but Rock lee versus Gaara!
Big O versus Big Duo!
Shin Getter versus Getter Robo G!

...

Not anime, but GI Joes versus Cobra at the beginning of the laughably bad GI Joe: The Movie.

Any of the fights between Impact Alberto and Taiso.
Any of the fights between Giant Robo and the Monster Sphere.

More later.

One of my favorite scenes comes from Tsukikage Ran. For those unfamiliar, the show is set up like an old samurai movie, only with women playing the lead roles. Ran plays a samurai and she has a bumbling martial artist side kick named Meow of the Iron Cat Fist.

Anyway, in this scene, Ran and Meow are fighting the flunkies of a bad guy lord. They stand at one end of a room with about two dozen flunkies evenly dispersed throughout the room. Ran unleashes a devastating attack that levels four or five flunkies. After seeing that, about two-thirds of the flunkies who were on Ran's half of the room quickly step into Meow's half, much to her dismay. It was hilarious. They put a lot of time and effort into animating the fight scenes of this show making it a good watch for action fans. Plus, they do an excellent job of capturing the feel of the old noodle westerns.

(Note: there is a ton of alcohol usage in the show. Be aware if you are thinking of trying it out. Obviously, abusing alcohol is not a good idea.)

One Piece, Arlong vs Luffy. Very moving as we see more and more of Luffy's character. Also all three of the Crocodile vs Luffy fights, same instance of Luffy growing as a person, not just in body strength.

Rock on!!! Battles are the best part of anime!
My favorite battle scenes:
The final confrontation between the marduk and U.N. Spacey in Macross 2
The final major battle against the Zentreadi fleet on episode 27 of Robotech/Macross
Whenever Kaze uses the magun(Final Fantasy Unlimited)
Those are the only one i can think of at the moment, but there plenty more.
GIANT ROBOTS 4EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The fights in Samurai Champloo are really awesome, especially in the first episode with the whole DJ thing that they used in the fight. . .Mugen is really like a Spike samurai clone, but thats to be expected. . .

Oh and another good one is the fight between Spike and Vicious in Cowboy Bebop. . probably some of the best fighting scenes to me.

Favorite fight scene.... I would say it's from Fighting Spirit (Hajime no Ippo) between Makunouchi Ippo and Miyata Ichirou. The boxing/fighting scenes are intense. Actually, I love all the fights. The story is set up where you get the perspective of both fighters and their story of why they fight: for their family, money, fame, pride etc... Sometimes the opponent has such a touching heart warming story it's hard to choose who you want to go for or win. It really adds to the suspense. I really enjoy this series.

Note, I'm gonna use a spoiler here, okay? If you haven't seen Giant Robo, and are looking into it, then ABSOLUTELY do NOT read this!
*SPOILER*
Right near the end of episode six, Daisaku goes to rescue his friend Gin Rei. He's trying to shatter the tube that she's floating in, but is confronted by one of the enemies.
This particular enemy can snap his fingers to fire out little blades and cut things in half.
Just as he fires his attack at Daisaku, Kenji Murasame jumps down infront of Daisaku.
This isn't as much a fight, but Daisaku hates Kenji, and the fact that he's protecting him while being sliced apart by the enemy is just beautiful. This is also where Daisaku has one of him most important monologues.

*SPOILER OVER*

Samurai Champloo DOES have great fights ^_^
I liked watching Shin Getter cut Jupiter in half. That was cool.
Maybe cliche, but the first battle between Goku and Piccolo in Dragonball was great, especially the end of the battle.

I LOVE the fight between Kenshin and Saito from Rurouni Kenshin! It was the first episode I ever saw, and my favorite episode ever! And the one between him and Shishio. Thought, they didn't have to draw it out that long. ^^;
Oh! And the one between Clive and Arc with Kukuru, Elc and Lieza in Arc the Lad! Completely awesome.

My favorite fight during this series was when Meow fought Mei. It was one of the most evenly matched fights in the series, and a pleasure to watch.

Just about any Gundam battle from Seed, Wing, or G Gundam was cool.
I also liked the airplane fight in ROD when Anita boarded the plane to rescue Nenene. The fight later at Dokusentia was cool to.
The fights in R-Kenshin are killer!!! They Rock  Anything with Kenshin a badie and a sword is totally rockin

I enjoy (most) Naruto fight scenes...I guess they tend to be unpredictable in a way, and same with Full Metal Alchemist.

I also liked the fights between Spike and Vincent in Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door (movie)

I am impressed every time I watch a fight scene from this anime because they put so much detail into the action. You can actually watch the show frame by frame and it's almost like watching live action. Most shows (especially American cartoons) cheat on the action - heroes disappear and reappear, do things simply not possible, etc.

Glad I found another fan of this rarely mentioned series.

Another favorite of mine comes from Jubei-chan the Ninja Girl. The action sequence wasn't great, but the fight was hilarious. Jubei was too sick to fight and her house was besieged by a silent ninja army. Her friends valiantly fight the ninjas until Jubei learns the secret to beating a silent ninja army. The episode also bears my seal for Best Episode Title - "I Attached this Thing to My Head."

Kenshin and Saitou's battle, especially in the manga. Though Kenshin DID totally "lose it"...

OH! OH! OH! :wow!:

How could I have forgotten the fight between the wolves (especially Kiba) and Darcia at the end of the series?!!

Bebop wins out here again -

- Specifically the Spike/Vicious fight in "Ballad of Fallen Angels," and also "The Real Folk Blues Pt. 2."
- Noir has some pretty amazing action sequences, but I haven't seen enough to get down to a one on one fight in it.
- I also am crazy about the Spike/Pierrot Le Fou showdown - that one was darn amazing.
- And how many amazing sequences does Vash have?

Definitely the first confrontation between Vash and Legato. man, did he push Vash's buttons. And his fight with Diablo was amazing, too. Heck, when isn't he? But that's when he began showing anger.
