Friend and fellow fan told me to be more open

Postby heero yuy 95 » Mon Jan 10, 2005 5:54 pm

I have a very good friend at school. Well, anyway, she told me that I need to be more open. I don't mean this in a bad way, like watch stuff that goes against my principles, just try out something different. My favorite genre's are definitely mecha and action/adventure. Giant robots are the reason i got into anime in the first place.(robotech was my first anime series on dvd). And I like action/adventure (esp. final fantasy unlimited) because they usually have an interesting cast of characters and take the viewer to imaginative worlds. Sailor Moon is my sole exception. anyway, any good suggestions? Basically anything that's not jam-packed with giant robots, machine-gun fire, explosions, or heroic adventure? Ughhh.. I shudder at the thought.
My viewing standards are as follows:
No taking God's name in vain(unless it's like, just on a few eps. out of the whole series.)
Fanservice is at a minimum.
Absolutely NO NUDITY!!!
No occult themes( fairytale-type magic is ok, Final fantasy:unlimited is my limit)

Giant Robo. It has robots, but it is a drama.

Swearing in the dub, not muh in the sub. (PG-13, no f-bombs or G-d's)

Gin Rei has the shortest skirt ever, but no fanservice shots at all.

No nudity (Unless you watch the Gin Rei OVAs, but you don't need to for any reason).

Violence isn't too bad.

One character is a taoist sorcerer, but doesn't do much. Another character is a "magician", but again, there is really nothing at all occultic about it in any way. On a postive note, Chujo holds a Chrisitan-style funeral in episode 3.

Only 7 episodes, check eBay for the Korean boxed set.

Best anime ever.

AIM me if you want any clips of it.

Fruits Basket!! *gets off her platform* Yeah, I gab about it all the time, so you probably know everything about it, but I felt compelled to shamelessly promote it anyways. You really should see it.

content: There's a review in our review section, but the abbreviated version is: Language and some gay-ish jokes. No fanservice, though.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

hmmmmmmm......

I think I'm gonna go out on a limb and recomend "Azu Manga Daioh!"
I found it to be a very fun anime to watch with my friends. Just plain funny, and
little fanservice... overall a great, clean anime.

If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things."

what about Trigun? very little cussing (i think), great characters and the only one seen naked is Vash, but that's only for a second and its purpose is to show that he has all these nasty scars on him, not to make fangirls go crazy (but they do anyway).

RahXephon (big robots, right?) but there may be quite a bit of cussing unless you go with the subbed version (makes thngs a bit easier to understand, as this is a seriously confusing anime).

um-biddily-um bum...

Witch Hunter Robin (hardly any swearing, and is not really magic)

and that's about it for now folks

Thanks! But I am already a big Gundam fan. I have Endless Waltz and almost the entire wing series. She even told me to try something other than gundam.

I'm in the middle of Angelic Layer and I really enjoy it. It can be fairly slow/somewhat melodramatic at points, but overall it's a really fantastic series. And it involves a lot of action/fighting (as well as comedy), so you might enjoy it. I think it's in our review database if you want to check.

Actually, twice. (two different episodes, and the other instance is longer. It has a point, though.)
The cake used to be a lie like you, but then it took a portal to the deception core.

I'd look at what she's into and pick something from that. Maybe she told you to be "more open" because the things you normally watch aren't her favorite and she wants to be able to talk about and experience her favorites with her close friend. Even if she's not thinking that way, just about anybody appreciates people taking an interest in what interests them. You could also save money if she let you borrow her anime instead of buying new stuff.
