There are some funny quotes from the Ranma dub, one of which I have in my .sig, though the subs have a few funnies (see below):

"We aren't your science project!" -- Akane (sub, OAV 9)
"Even cabbage more sense than you!" -- Shampoo (dub)
"I still think he needs a beating." -- Ukyoo (dub)
"you're a doctor.... and 27 years.... so...doctor + 27 years = HATORI SOHMA" - RoyalWing, when I was 27
"Al hail the forum editting Shooby! His vibes are law!" - Osaka-chan

I could still be champ, but I'd feel bad taking it away from one of the younger guys. - George Foreman

Maya: ...and the commanders are still cool in their command posts.

Gendo: It's hot.
Fuyutsuki: Yes.

from NGE. it makes me laugh at summer days, and at least makes me lose the thought of the heat for few seconds.

Just a couple from Sailor Moon:

"Nothing ventilated, nothing gained!" --Mina

"I guess that makes you a jerk of all trades!" --Lita

(I know there's some more misquotes from that, but I can't think of any at the moment.)

And one from Hamtaro:

"Add two fathers, stir gently and bring to a boil." --Kana

Hey, quotes! I have some favorite Trigun and Cowboy Bebop quotes. . .

Trigun quotes:

Vash: "I'd much rather lead an uneventful life if I could."
Wolfwood, answering that comment: "You couldn't if you tried."

"I've always had my suspicions that you were no mere mortal, but I never imagined that you were actually...a cat." Wolfwood to Vash in episode 19 (when he looks up to see Kuroneko where Vash was sitting.)

"Doesn't anyone trust the word of a priest anymore?!" -Wolfwood, LOL

Bebop quotes:

"Open foot, insert mouth"-Jet

(I had a few others, but I lost the site they were on and my memory is no good."

In the Cowboy Bebop Movie where Ed goes, "Aww, Edward's hacking program broke!" That was kind of funny.

Ehh...here are a few...

"I don't have to eat it to know it's toxic." Ranma Saotome, Ranma 1/2

"Try not to hurt yourself... I'd like to do that for you!" Ryoko, Tenchi Muyo Collection

Ore no puraido... ore no tamashii...(My pride, My soul)-Kaiba Seto, Yuugiou

A wolf will always be a wolf, the Shinsen Gumi will always be the Shinsen Gumi, and a manslayer will always be a manslayer!"~Goro Fujita, also known as Hajime Saito

"Why is it so heavy? Because it's full of Mercy!"-Vash complaining about the weight of Wolfwood's weapon...

The terrifying moldy bread incident! In elementary school, Yomi's leftover bread started rotting inside her desk! you can't imagine what happened! Actually, that was a bus porter complaing about the heaviness of the weapon and Wolfwood answering the porter. Sorry :)

Nadesico - Akito: "I'm brave, but my feet aren't... D***ed feet!"

it's my favorite quote, but I can't say it here... hehe...

Oh, and "I'm busted" by Ruri, also from nadesico... These are both dub quotes... The dub is just funnier than the japanese version...

IN the japanese version, Ruri says "yoroshiku" and I just didn't get it... It was translated "All yours" and, um... can anyone explain that to me? (episode: A reunion that came too late)

Oh, and "What is this? Is there a proctologist convention in town?" hehehehehe... I watch both, though... The dub and the sub...

I think it's like "Oh mama, why do these bad things always happen to me? Oh mama, why does everyone want to kill me? Oh mama...Why am I bawling in French?" I think the dub says "crying" but I saw the sub, so...

"This world is made of love and Peace! Love and Peace!" ~Vash

"It's a long story, but it's kinda short" ~think Wolfwood said that.

I dunno any others...

'Yoroshiku {onegai shimasu}' can mean a lot of things, including, "I entrust this to you" (like what you might say after giving someone something to take care of). MangaJin's Basic Japanese Through Comics vol 1 has an excellent chapter on its many uses. I suspect also it was meant humourously :)

i like that 'cat' comment from Trigun. lol.

some from R. Kenshin:

"oro" ok.. anyone who've watched Kenshin should know about this!

Kenshin: "Nothing is stronger than the will to live." (awesome)

Tomoe: "You made it rain, the rain of blood." (that's so.. mysterious)

Slayers:

Amelia: "In the name of justice..."
"He looks so creepy and suspicious!" (comment to Zelgadis's appearance)

I almost forgot my #1 most favorite anime quote, also from Nadesico:

"I guess the Cat is Alive"

I think Tech is prolly about the only one who will get this joke, but only if he's seen Nadesico... When I heard that joke, I laughed my head off...

The joke takes place where the three female pilots show up (episode 4) and first Ryoko shows up, then the glasses girl (always forget her name) and they are looking for izumi, but she's not there. Ryoko says "Two out of three ain't bad" and Izumi says "It is if you're the third" and it ends up Izumi's in the box that was supposed to have Ryoko's clothes in it, and um... i forgot the exact things that take place, because I haven't seen it in forever, but I think they ask if Izumi's in the box, when they open it up, she says "I guess the Cat is alive" and it's a very very obscure refference that no one got that I talked to about it... No one knows about Schroedinger's cat (I know I spelled that wrong) which is a book written by a physicist mocking the current thought of physicists at the time. The question was If we put a cat in a box in space with a single radioactive particle that, if it splits, will trigger a hammer breaking a vial of cyanide killing the cat. There is a 50 percent chance that a radioactive particle will split when it reaches halflife. So, at the end of the test when no human is there to observe the cat, is the cat alive or dead? It's neither. It is in a state of, um... I forgot the term, something like "Quantative uncertainty" but anyhow it was something I knew about from Physics class, and it just cracked me up... (please, tech, correct that term for me)

Hello Amenman! If you're interested in Christian anime, you need to turn to that specific forum., that way we can keep everything nice and on-topic. Thanks! :thumb: *takes the little topic train and sets it neatly back on the rail*

Here are some quotes I like, they may be a little off:

"My swordmaster is the best, grown men quiver at the sound of her name. I hate to brag, but my mommy taught me everything I know"-Jeffery, Slayers Jeffery's Knighthood OVA (dub)

"Your sense of fashion Roger, really reeks"-Dorothy, Big O (dub, my sig quote)

"Once again, I cut a worthless object"-Goemon, Castle of Cagliostro (subtitles)

"Kindness towards all creatures kick!"-Prince Phil, Slayers

Two line dialog from the first Ranma 1/2 movie (subtitles):

Ranma: What do you mean by "bride"?
Karin(forgot exact name, main villan): (Gives dictonary style definition of "bride" complete with alternate words with the same meaning)

Dialog from Slayers (subtitles):

Amelia (to gourry): You're a petshop owner, right?
Gourry: Do I look like a petshop owner?
Amelia: So you really are a swordsman?
Gourry: Yes, why would you think I was a petshop owner?
Amelia: You shouldn't judge by appearances.
Gourry: So you assume I'm a petshop owner?
"Your sense of fashion, Roger, really reeks"-Dorothy, Big O

Heh. the cat was a good one.

"Feel the wrath of the bit players"- Love Hina

In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

-- Schrodinger's Moggy explained (Terry Pratchett, Lords and Ladies)
(not anime, but apropos)

Your description of Schroedinger's Cat (there's a umlat over the 'o' for those sticklers among us) is pretty much right, except the primary detail. The problem rests on the quantum indeterminacy of indivdual particles. Basically, we know that particles can behave as waves (see DeBroglie), and so Schroedinger was able to describe the atom in terms of the wave equation. Max Born took this a step further and showed that the waves were waves of probability. We can't determine the state of a particle beyond it's wave function unless we actually observe it (and this act collapses the wave function). In the mean time, there remains the question of what the state of the particle actually is (it can't behave solely as a particle as evidenced by diffraction effects). In other words, it can be said to exist in some superposition of all possible states. Real-life objects don't have this problem since they contain so many particles, that wave effects are cancelled out.

This understanding of QM is obviously bizarre in terms of real life, and a lot of people reacted against it. Schroedinger posed the question as a thought experiment to expose this absurdity. The cat's state is wholly dependant on the particle's state, which is indeterminate, resulting in an apparent absurdity. Unfortuately, I can't go into too much more detail, since QM isn't a subject that I know in depth (only enough to understand device physics)
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

Neil Postman

Jet Black: "I don't know and I have no opinion."

Same guy: "Give him the onceover. In fact, do it twice."

I think you know: "Someone set us up the bomb!"

Technically, that has no relevance to anime, but it does have to do with translation and things made in Japan.

Ditto: "Ha ha ha."

You have to have seen it to know why that one's funny.
