Not Haru, he already has somebody. I would put a cute spoiler box, but I can't quite figure out how to do it. O.O I have lots of spoilers....*cackles*

You do the Spoiler Box like this:

[*spoiler] You put all the junk you don't want anyone to see in here. . .[*/spoiler] Just be sure you don't put the * things in yours or they won't work. I just put them in so you could see the code.

And I wasn't really suggesting Hatsuharu. I want him to get together with Kisa-- they look so cute together!!!!-- but I want Kagura to be happy. And I imagine he and Kagura would get along pretty well. Until they got mad of course. Then, they'd probably kill eachother.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. Thanks! Anyway, about Haru...
He's is in love with Rin, the horse of the zodiac. As of now, I don't think she's appeared in the US manga. (I've only read 1-3)
AHH!!! I want to read it! But I don't! I want to be surprised! But I don't! *head explodes.* I'll just wait until I get to it in the manga. *sigh*

Ha! I can't wait to pick up my copy of it! I have read volumes one thru four of Furuba, and I'm addicted! I'll get five and six sometime after Christmas! I am happy to say that the reason I have not been buying manga lately is a good one: I've been buyin' up for all my friends! HaHa. I'll be sure to get it though, then I can tell you more about it... sorry!

Oh, what, so you want Hiro's heart broken? Ah, just as well. I can't stand Hiro anyway. He's a jerk.

And yes, I already knew that about Haru.

Cap'n: I think in the anime, Yuki knew about it...he may have been with Akito when Akito first saw Kyo's transformation (not quite sure on that one though). He was definitely there in the rain when Kyo's shisou removed the bracelet, though. In the anime, Kagura knows for sure. It shows that when they were little kids, Kyo's bracelet somehow came off in front of Kagura and she saw his true form. I think for some reason, that is why Kagura wants to be with him so much...but I'm fuzzy on the details (I'll have to rewatch the last DVD).

Ami J., I'm pretty sure it's been discussed on CAA before (I remember reading a thread about it). However, you might want to put [ spoiler ] tags around it just in case.

Yes, please use spoiler tags. Some of us (some of us=me) are avoiding spoilers at ALL costs. *spoiler goblins comes out of the shadows of the thread and demands fifty dollars. Oh, I didn't know Akito knew. Although that makes a lot of sense. You know, I think the picture that I thought was Yuki looking at Kyo was actually Akito as a kid. And here I thought it was Yuki just being a huge jerk. D'oh!

Ok, so I've been patiently avoiding this thread til TODAY when I finally picked up Furuba #6 (everyone thank Ink for me too cause she's the reason I got it! ^^)

Soooo:
Even if I'm not a big Kyo fan, his chapters made my heart ache for him. Seriously, I was about to cry. Shiousan is so awesome, and seeing him as a little boy is too incredibly cute! Since I saw the anime first, I had no idea there was a lot more to his story than what they crammed into that last episode. I'm so glad to hear the whole thing! I also kinda like how they changed the order of events in the anime...kinda cool to go back and compare it to the manga, and I don't feel like I've "heard it" already. I have to say the scene where Kyo hugs Tohru....oh my goodness I wanted to melt. So after that, my liking of Kyo shot way, way up.

I also looooooooved the stairwell scene with Yuki and Tohru. That was so....sweet and awesome! His laugh, and the way he held her head....aww it was so cute! And his cute dumbfounded face when Haru asked, "you really had no idea did you". (And that panel with Haru on the roof?! O.O! Mama mia, that was gorgeous!

My other favorite scene was when Yuki was on the bench with Tohru and it began to get all sparkly eyed and sugary....although I wanted to KILL AYAME for bursting in on it. So when Yuki was all "CUT. IT. OUT!" I burst out laughing. That was my reaction too! So now I seriously don't know who I'd like to see her with more, Yuki or Kyo. I used to say Yuki hands down...but the more I read the manga, the more I begin to like Kyo. So hard to choose!

Also, did anyone else notice the cat drawn on Kagura's boot? O.o;;

And finally, the very last panel...with Hatori at work....oh my goodness I cracked up so hard I dropped the book!
What I DIDN'T like was the cover (I don't like Momiji at all) but at least he wasn't really in this one much. ^^; I also hated the promo thing they put in the end...the one with "a boy turns into a cat, doesn't that sound purrrfect". Honestly, they make it sound so dirty! It's not like that at all and it makes me mad they're trying to use some innuendo to sell it. As the cover very obtrusively states, it's the #1 selling shojo manga in America. Why do you people feel like you have to sell it anymore?!

Also FYI (I know this post is really huge but I'm dying to talk to people) Mom saw me reading it and I could see she was puzzled. So I talked her through how to read it and let her try it...unfortunately it was a page with a lot of honorifics so I ended up teaching her all about chan and san and sama and ni and...well, the whole spiel. ^^

Oh yeah, and about the "who's in on the secret", I think ALL the Sohmas know. It would make the most sense; after all, if they didn't all know, why would they all still continue to be mean to anyone who is the year of the Cat? Like all those women talking during the Kyo flashback. I dunno if that's well founded or not, but I'm pretty sure everyone knows. They just don't let on that they know.

Seriously, I DID cry. It was pretty late at night, and if I read tear jerkers anytime past eleven at night, I'm a goner.

Ashley wrote:
I really hope we see alot more of Shiosan. If we don't I will be very sad.

Ashley wrote:
I have to say the scene where Kyo hugs Tohru....oh my goodness I wanted to melt. So after that, my liking of Kyo shot way, way up.
Yes, this is precisely where I cried because
Kyo's always so tough and, a little bit, severe that seeing him break down like that just about KILLED me. *sob sob *
Ashley wrote:
Haru is incredibly gorgeous all the time, but I think the higher altitude that the roof presented just magnified his otherwise glompable features. It's simply not fair that I have no friend to share him with. *pouts.*
I didn't think Yuki had that whole stair well thing in him. He's always so gentle and somewhat stand-off-ish, I was sittin gon my couch saying "He wouldn't. He wouldn't. He is! He's moving in for the kill!" And then of course Tohru had to go and smack her head, the poor dear.
Ashley wrote:
If I could have reached into the manga and strangeled that interferring idiot-- I WOULD HAVE! I mean,
He was gonna kiss her. He had the whole set up perfect. But no, his pervie older brother had to come in a mess the whole thing up. Osaka is not amused.
Ashley wrote:Also, did anyone else notice the cat drawn on Kagura's boot? O.o]

That poor girl is very desperate. It's fun and yet still sad. Poor Kagura-chan.

I was very disappointed that Hatori wasn't in it more, but his "cameo" was worth it. "Don't put me on Shigure's level" I thought I was going to die right there.

Also FYI (I know this post is really huge but I'm dying to talk to people) Mom saw me reading it and I could see she was puzzled. Unfortuneately, Fruits Basket isn't a very good starter manga. Takaya is somewhat original with alot of her frame transitions (that sometimes makes for some difficult reading), and all that honorifics stuff is hard to pick up on if you've never seen it before.

Well, what did your mom think?

Oh yeah, and about the "who's in on the secret", I think ALL the Sohmas know. Well, it's obvious that atleast Kagura, Yuki and Shigure know. Or, if they didn't, they were surprisingly calm when he "changed". It seems that this secret is the reason everyone hates the cat, so I assume it's pretty common knowledge among Sohmas.

As far as who Tohru should end up with, I'm afraid the only way I will be happy at the end of Fruits Basket is if they clone Tohru and both Kyo and Yuki end up with her. I'll be devistated if either of them end up unhappy. :waah!:

Wow so cool! I got it foir Christmas and LOVED it! I knew that
kyo was the one tohru followed as a girl
I'm so happy! ^_^ I wish they had kept the same story line in the anime and manga, its kinda confusing to have the Kyo thing before Hiro showing up..... I would like new material!!!!! lol
I did notice the cat face on Kagura's boot, lol, that was funny.
Kyo's master is so cool! I thought so in the anime as well ^^
I thought the stairwell scene was Yuki trying to act more tough like Kyo.... stupid rat, lol.
KYO ROCKS! >^_^<

AHHHHHH!!! I... CAN'T HOLD IN! I HAVE TO POST! No matter what mood I'm in!!

I'm also very sorry if some of the opinions and informations I present here are not precised. I did not read the book for a few months and I am too lazy to go get it upstairs~

To KisaTohru:
Kyô is not the one Tohru fallowed. If you believe that, then you will be in shock in the next volumes, I think.
And here, is a big complain and confession, from me.

I don't like Kyô. There is no other character in this comic book story that I don't like. To fact, I usually can 'stand' all characters in a series. The only thing I can think to compare my feeling of him is like Aeris of FF VII. (I don't like her at all, but I still try to respect.) At first I thought his explosions of anger where funny (the slang and words he used) but by the last chapter of the second or third book I was annoyed with him. He isn't funny anymore, same thing over and over, he always screams and I just find him as such a weight to the whole book's rythme.

What irritates me is that he grows so slowly and it takes him such a long time to change in the smallest way, it just bored me with Kyô. Yes, his past is very sad. But I thought it so dumb that he didn't talk with it and share more of his feelings with the people who stopped to care for him (his master, I forgot the name, and Kagura.) Kagura and him were always playing together as a children (no, he was not forced, he liked to play with her!) so they know each other for a long time, same thing for his master!

They were always trying to support him I think, and he just ignored these messages, only saw them with Tohru because she worded them in the exact way accepted to hear to him. (argghh, I hope someone understands some of these phrases because I am seeing problems with them, but I am not sure how to fix them.) I will stop there, because I could continue for thousands of years.

so.. I hope I fallowed (fallowed... followed? fawllowed...) the discussion well..
If Ayamé did not stop Yuki on the scene in the bench, the author would not have enough to write 14 and more books. (= w =)

I was so happy, the scene on the stairs. Yuki is trying at least to grow. This is the starting point that made me very happy with him in the next books.

I think it's so cute, when Tohru completely went red! I blush alot, and my whole face goes red just like her. I don't know about my legs, though. XD

The whole family knows the cat has a true appearance. But I think only the three musketeers (maybe not even Ayamé), Kyô's master, Kagura, Akito, and Yuki did see it before, and other people who are not present there.
So, after putting a trash post in this thread...

Awww, our poor little canadian fruits basket fan! Fear not! You needn't run away. Half the time I'm not realy fond of Kyo, but every once in a while....he taps into that emotional whirlpool of cliche that is my bishoujo-manga loving heart. XD

Out of sheer curiousity, what volume are you on, RoyalWing?

[yells back still running!... and running out of breath!]
KisaTohru, I'm sure that what ever the author is thinking as the end, Kyô will be happy. Fruits Basket is the mushy kind of story where that is what happens. (=w=)

(I think with Kagura, it would be very cute.. because they are both psychotic.)

Ashley wrote: Awww, our poor little canadian fruits basket fan!

!!? I don't understand it, why does it matter? XD

I still only have until #10. I am going to strangle myself soon because they just released #12 but I can't buy because my wallet is... going to die (I ordered an expensive dvd set instead, of a series I like more, but still...).

Last time I went to a mall, I saw THE LAST PAGES OF FRUITS BASKET #14!! But I couldn't read it since it was in Chinese. But it's Yuki, and he looks all sad and happy (that.. face that he has) to Momiji and he is telling him something! That looks very important! LIKE A LOVE CONFESSION! Do you understand?! But.. how could he be doing that if he already told her.. in the end of number 10 and... [mumbles off to myself.]

Yes, RoyalWings is bi-lingual, if I'm not mistaken. She's been reading the French releases in Canada. They have a four volume head start on the US Tokyopop.

I think it's 6 volumes ahead for now, because they released #12, and you received #6. (but the French companie's rythme is slower than U.S., so I'm sure that you will be caught up soon.)

Ashley, may I ask why you don't like Momiji (I like him very much! very cute!) and KisaTohru, why do you not like Yuki? If it's alright, please answer, but if you don't like, don't answer, I'm sorry.

And now! For all these big boring paragraphs that are off subject... Please skip it, I'm sorry.

I think I should say something, because I think I confused some of you.. Canada has nothing to do with me reading comic books in french. The companies that publish comic books (original ones and translations) are from France France, not from Québec or Canada. The only reason I can order them is from amazon.ca, or when I go down town there is ONE specialized french bookstore there. Amazon.ca is very poor, their selection is very poor and when a volume is released in France I have to wait 1 month or more to be available on website. (my parents don't allow me to order from Europe, arrgh!)

AND ONE LAST THING... I am not French Canadian! I do not come from Québec! The french I speak is the France one, my background is very mixed so somewhere in there, someone was french I think, and that made the whole family on my father's side speak french (from France!), even if they aren't from there. I was born in Toronto. The End.

For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Well, I know you asked Kisa that question, Wing-chan, but I'll go ahead and tell you why I don't like Yuki (I'm a Kyou fan ;) ).

Yuki is...well, boring. He's a good-looking guy who wants people to like him so he acts friendly. And...that's it. That's ALL there is to Yuki's character. He has no depth whatsoever. He's one-dimensional. He has no substance.

Kyou, on the other hand, has a LOT to his character, most of which has to be put in spoiler boxes, but you'll be able to read it, Wing-chan, 'cuz you already know all this.
The person born with the curse of the cat isn't born human. They're actually born in their true form, that of the evil spirit. This is why the cat is obviously rejected by their parents.

Unless Kyou is wearing his special red-and-black "Juzu" beads, he will transform into an ugly, smelly, (in Akito's words) monster. The Juzu beads were made long ago from somebody's bones and blood. Kyou comments that he doesn't think it's fair that he is able to live on because of somebody else's sacrifice, which contributes to his guilt. You see, Kyou always feels exceptionally guilty when someone close to him gets hurt, he feels that the cat spirit inside him makes him unlucky.

Kyou knew Kyoko (Tohru's mother) as a little boy. In fact, Kyou was responsible for Tohru's mother's death somehow, but he hasn't said exactly how. This is why he feels guilty when he goes to visit Kyoko's grave in one of the first couple of volumes.

The reason Kyou is training so hard to beat Yuki is because he will be locked up if he doesn't. The cat is always locked up by the other members of the Sohmas (the cat may somehow be the key to breaking the curse, which the god-head wouldn't want), remember Kazuma's grandfather the previous cat? However, Kyou made a deal with Akito. If Kyou can beat Yuki before he graduates high school, he will be allowed to live a normal life; however, if he fails in this task, he will be locked up for the rest of his life.
Okay, I digress...I went to one of my favorite sites and found out Yuki has a LITTLE depth to him, though not on Kyou's level. Here's what I dug up on Yuki, also in spoiler boxes:
When Yuki was young, his mother gave him over to Akito because she wanted a higher status in the family and couldn't achieve it with a cursed child. Yuki suffered from frequent sickness and was even close to death; Akito only encouraged him to die because he was replaceable and often reminded him that nobody liked him and thought that he was useless. Yuki eventually bought into Akito's lies and became very lonely and despressed.

Yuki is also the "red hat boy" who brought Tohru home after she got lost when they were little kids (although it was Kyou's hat :P ).

Even though Yuki has said to himself that Tohru is somebody very special to him, he only sees her as the mother he never had. Yuki doesn't love Tohru romantically, and never will...meaning Tohru and Kyou will inevitably end up together, and rightfully so, IMO.
So, Yuki's still boring and dull. :P

I think Yuki really has his moments (the stair case, for instance.) Kyo(u) just has more, IMHO.

Ashley, may I ask why you don't like Momiji (I like him very much! very cute!)

He's just.....uber hyper. I dunno, he just really rubs me the wrong way personality wise. He's just *too* cute and annoying and hyper and happy. I know that made like, no sense, but it's really hard to explain. Some characters are just like that to me..I can't explain why I dislike them, I just do. I do like the german background, though, I think that's pretty adorable.

I started to learn english as a class, starting in fourth grade. but it was easier to learn, I think, because the people around you speak it, so you do catch some word... and my mother's family is english (canadian with english background). I don't know how to say, but I think it's easier to understand then, to come up with your own. I think I speak better than I write.

Kaemmerite, the way you feel about Yuki (no depth and boring) is the way I feel about Kyô. It's odd that
...you say that Yuki is the one who thinks of Tohru as a mother, because this is also what Kyô thinks of her. Kyô saw Tohru as an accomplished of his mother. So in the way you are saying, both of them don't love to her romantically. But in the end of #8 (I'm not sure if you're this far, please I'm very sorry, you don't have to read) both of them Yuki and Kyô are seen thinking to themselves: "I don't know what to call... this sentiment. But he is really there... and... he is enlarging, in my heart. This sentiment that is being born, I am feeling (? don't know how to translate it) it very well...it's a dazzling thing... that makes me lose my head..." with the back of Tohru showing. (that was a direct translation, so I'm very sorry if it doesn't make sense..) I think that could be a romantic feeling on both of their parts.

Yuki has lived in darkness with Akito since he was little, and Akito is ready to force him back at any moment. He had no choice about this, Akito is just playing with him. Kyô will start to live in darkness, but not if he can defeat Yuki. To me it looks like only Kyô has a way out.

I think we will "agree to disagree" :thumb: yeah!
I understand Ashley! Some characters I just don't like very much. (like Aeris and Kyô).
