Repeated viewings of anime...

Postby HeliosX86 » Wed Dec 08, 2004 4:05 pm

I was wondering if you guys feel that constantly watching the same anime, after any given time, ruin the experience of that show? Given that you already know the plot and the characters, is watching the series again really necessary?

For me, I usually have to wait several months after I finished the first viewing before jumping back and watching it again. It seems that the less I remember of that first viewing, I can later enjoy it more the second time around as I had forgotten most of the plot.

(though I think Azumanga Daioh can be an exception because you can watch any episode at any time and it would still make you laugh! :) )

*watches the Kenshin OAVs Trust and Betrayal again and again and again*

Huh? Eh? Watching an anime again and again? Who cares...it's fun...

*stares at screen* Baaaatttttooooousaaaai...

(his cuteness level never goes down no matter how many times I watch those OAVs...he actually gets cuter every time...  )
Heart of Sword's Rhapsody

Money, get away
Get a good job with good pay and you're okay
And all and all you're just another brick in the wall
Shoutin’ in the street gonna take on the world some day
But Bismallah will not let me go
Because I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

Tommy used to work on the docks
Union's been on strike
Bright eyes burning like fire
And exposing every weakness
However carefully hidden by the kids

Who will love a little Sparrow
Who's traveled far and cries for rest
Spare him his life from this monstrosity

I've seen a million faces and I've rocked them all
And if the band youre in starts playing different tunes
We will we will rock you
We will we will rock you!

It totally depends on the anime. With more story-driven anime, I tend to want to watch it again later. Also, if it has a crazy plot (ala Big O), I'll definitely watch it again to try to understand.

I'm most likely to watch an anime again if it has great action.
Yeah, I'm that opinionated.

So otaku, but not...

I've seen Gundam Wing Endless Waltz Special Edition 50 times. (seriously!) And I never get tired of watching Big O either. I'm such a Big O junkie that I still watch it to this day. It's kinda sad, but It's just so cool.^_^ All of my anime, I usually watch again and again, but those I listed are the most repeated in viewings.

I feel similarly about movies (seeing a film in theaters time after time seems strange to me). Unless the movie is truly so complex that you cannot understand it, why would you bother to watch it again? I have found that the only new things I get out of it are negative, like a disproportionate shot or a battle scene that, once the suspense is gone, is really rather stupid.

However, after some time it can be very enjoyable to watch an anime (or movie) again. Those that are truly quality will not decrease greatly in value upon a second viewing.

Ah, we love to watch anime, don't we? ;)

Well, for me rewatching anime always brings back good memories about what I watch. It is just that every time I watch anime I try to understand it more deeper, and therefore it becomes more enjoyable for me when I try to compare what I understood last time and after viewing it this time. It also applies to my study of Japanese :) too, the more I hear familiar words the longer I will hold them in my memory.

Love is that feeling you get when a girl looks at you and it feels like your driving a car at high speeds and experience a sudden drop. You know what i mean? That sudden sinking feeling you get in your stomach? Yeah, that's love. Leave's you speechless everytime.

 I uh... well... on thanksgiving break ... I uh... I watched the Fruits Basket series nine consecutive times as I worked on the scarf I was making my friend for her birthday. I never grew tired of it. And every part made me laugh over and over and over.

I watch Rurouni Kenshin, Samurai X, and Full Metal Alchemist over and over alot too. Of course its not.... repeatitive. But I think a decision like this depends on the show itself and the person watching it.

Yeah...if I had control of the tv, I would watch my show over and over and over33squared times. Some shows do get old, like pokemon, but not Rurouni Kenshin.

Currently with the anime that I have, I'm doing the "one episode a week" thing (simulating air times in Japan.) I basically pick out five series for a week day and just go along in order. Something like this could be beneficial when re-watching a show since you take in a lot just from that single episode into memory.
