This belongs far more in the Anime forum than this one. I'll put it there.

Personally, I hardly ever watch Cartoon Network (but I hardly ever watch anything). However, I do feel that it has some worthwhile shows. I really don't like most of their comedy. You mentioned that this isn't about Adult Swim, so I won't mention that. The Toonami block isn't bad either.

Of their own shows, I'd say my favorites are Samurai Jack and Teen Titans. Quality shows, if taken as a new artstyle, not as ripoffs of anime (the creator of Teen Titans has been quoted saying he was just doing something vaguely anime-esque, not trying to copy the style... which he's familiar with).

Yeah, dexter's lab isn't bad. Grim and Evil is pretty funny too. Teen Tiatns is pretty cool too. I can honestly say though that I prefer nickelodeon's cartoons: Rocko's Modern Life, Ren and Stimpy, Angry Beavers, Invader Zim, Spongebob Squarepants, and even Fairly Oddparents. The Nicktoons channel is awesome! Cartoon-wise you just can't beat Nick. Except for Futurama and Family Guy, but that's AS.

The only thing I watch on CN is the Toonami block (aside from Adult Swim, although I rarely have time to watch that). I like it, even if they are just showing re-runs.

I agree that the old Nick cartoons were very good. Ren and Stimpy in particular was doing years ago what a lot of Adult Swim comedies are trying to do now (that is, get laughs with incredible weirdness). I don't watch any of the new stuff though.

I LOVE Cartoon Network.

I watch it all the time... I like the Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Laboratory, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy... lots of stuff. I even watch Ed, Edd, and Eddy sometimes. I even really like Whatever Happened to Robot Jones? - it has such an... 80s feel, and I love lots of 80s stuff. (I mean, it's made now, it wasn't made in the 80s, but I think the show is supposed to be set in the 80s.. just the pop-culture in it) It's fun! Teen Titans is fun, I watch Saumurai Jack on occasion - I LOVE the Scottsman. :)

I don't like Nick... just a few shows. I like Invader Zim a lot, I like Spongebob Squarepants (so stupid, it's funny!) and I adore The Fairly Odd Parents.

I also watch too much television.

I like CN, but I like Nickelodeon more. Who can say no to The Fairly Oddparents and Spongebob Squarepants.

CN = Garbage.

Postby Kenchii » Wed Feb 04, 2004 1:28 pm

Honesly, when I was about 11, 12 years old there used to be good decent shows on that were worthwhile. I normaly don't wach the television any more, but I have seen the big change in CN. CN used to be good. I mean, back then I didn't have cable and loved CN. Because of there VARIORITY of old shows. Captin Planet, Thundercats, Spacecost & Zorak ft. Brak (the old one), THE OLD Dextor's Lab, Tenchi, Gundam Wing, & Blue Submarine number 6.

Now when you look at the new (new as in 04) shows, dont you notice how cheap CN has become? I mean, the same artist/plot/story for Teen Titans, Superman, Batman Beyond, & Justice Leadge. Its rediculious! Then you have Samurai Jack, it was good for awhile, but when THENEW Dextor show appared, puff! The are suddenly became SJ. Dextor will never be the same. Power Puff Girls was a good show, BUT THATS ABOUT IT! As for the rest, THEY ARE ALL COMEDY!! Same old, same! EDEDD&EDDY, ROBOTJONES,GRIM&EVIL, AHHHHG!!

:mutter:

OFFTOPIC: This is getting me a headacc, Even Nick sucks! They took off the three GOOD shows, Invater Zim, Ren & Stimpy, & THEOLD All That!

Without Cartoon Network, I would never have been introduced to anime, and therefore, I would have never found this site and join it. Hence, Cartoon Network (across the street from the north side of campus here) will always have a soft spot in my heart. Yes, I remember it now. It was DragonballZ and Gundam Wing (Uncut) during the "Midnight Run" block of Toonami. First time I saw anime, and I started to become curious about the medium.

Anyway, enough about that, I must say I like Samurai Jack, especially the first few episodes. I also grew up on the classic Warner Bros. cartoons (Bugs Bunny and the gang) and I still enjoy watching their re-runs on this network.

not a big fan of Cartoon Netwrok.......nor Toonami for that matter. However I do like Adult Swim and will watch it whenever I can. As for the anime on CN (toonami) I prefer not to watch it. I just don't like the fact that it's not in the anime's orginal state. Of course you dodge all the unnessaries of uncut anime such as severe amounts of violence, cussing, nudity, etc. but i don't know....I just prefer tow atch most anime uncut so whenever I watch TV, it's usually anime I buy....or other channels.

The only shows I truly watch on CN is Samurai Jack, Ed, Edd, and Eddy, and occassionally Jonny Bravo.

I strongly disagree.

Teen Titans, Superman, Batman Beyond, & Justice League are all based on different DC comic titles. They all have different plots although they do all overlap somewhat.

None of those are "new as in 04." The newest would be Teen Titans and that started last year. Justice League started in 2001. The other two are no longer in production.

And frankly, there is nothing wrong with having the same artists/creators. Having the same team make several shows doesn't make a company "cheap."

What I'm wondering if they'll do is a cross-over with anything and Teen Titans. So far it has been pretty seperate, though it technically exists in the same world. Batman hasn't even appeared, though he has been mentioned. I would think Static Shock would be especially conducive to this...

I agree with Master Dias. I've got to start posting first or get some new opinions.

Well, for the first responce: Yes, I do agree they have diffrent plots (I just don't like Marvel/DC comics, so they are all the same to me x.x;;) But, the art, I mean common! The art is all the same!! Don't you get tired of seeing the same animation in so called diffrent shows? Isn't the channel called Cartoon Network? Then, they should have a arrange of diffrent shows on it besides that same artist. Like, older shows or even diffrent styles, take O-Canada.

second responce: alright, starting at the new millenium. :hits_self

last responce: it is cheap, period.

I heard that in the JL/Static Shock crossover, Batman mentioned the Teen Titans.

I also believe, on a seperate note, that Zeta Project is a spin-off of an episode of Batman: Beyond.

I don't have anything against Adult Swim. They have some pretty good stuff. I don't really like any of their comedy (except Family Guy). Their late night anime has a lot of the classics (Cowboy Bebop, Trigun). In any case: this thread is not about Adult Swim. Don't talk about it.

Meanwhile, Hitokiri, your avatar is great.

Using this logic, any anime that has the same or similar art styles/artists/creators(all the different Gundam series' for example) would be "cheap."
That really doesn't make any sense.

But I won't get in an argument over it. I am a DC/Marvel fan. Or at least, I am a fan of their different TV shows. I don't read American comic books much. There are too many to keep track of.

As for Teen Titans, I am also wondering if any "crossovers" are going to occur. The whole animation style is so different with all of the borrowed anime mannerisms(sweatdrops, etc.) that I wonder how they could pull it off. A Teen Titans/Static Shock crossover seems the most likely judging from a conversation Static had with Batman before TT ever started...

Static: Where's Robin?
Batman: He's with the Titans.
Static: The Who?
Batman: You'll meet them eventually.

I'm like the opposite of Ruroken. Love Adult Swim, hate Toonami. Maybe it's because I'm an adult... *shrugs*. I will always love Futurama. Period. I'd like to get it on DVD (It is out, I'm just poor), so I can... have it as part of my collection. I'm a Futurama-freak.

But, yes, as this is not about AS... Toonami... ugh. Edited to heck anime... Dragonball everywhere.... I occasionally catch RK on Toonami, but don't watch it too much, just because I know it's edited to heck and would like to watch the "real" version someday. AS edits their anime less... at least, I was pleased with what I saw of Trigun (was a fan of the series before it ever got picked up by CN). Just a couple of cusses editied (though E.G. Mine... without the cussing.. just isn't the same! ) a part where Rai Dei screams "Is this some form of twisted Christian Science?!" ("Christian" was edited out... I guess CN people thought it would be offesnive).. they cut out the opening theme and snipped most of the end sequence for music... grr... but overall, it wasn't heavily edited...barely touched, really. Compare that to how Toonami's gotta edit things... you get people getting sliced by swords, but no blood. Gah!

I like .Hack/Sign on Toonami. I haven't read the edit list for it because I'm lazy, but according to people I know who've seen DVD versions, it's not really messed with. And... it's how I can get .Hack/Sign right now, so I'm content for the moment.

I occasionally get a kick out of watching "Knights of the Zodiac". Not a real fan of that anime by any means, but it's kind of fun and trippy to watch when I catch an episode.

Otherwise, I avoid Toonami like a plague. (Becasue it is one. )

But, yeah, my fandom for many Cartoon network shows... the "Cartoon Cartoons" stands. PPG, Grim... Dexter... so much fun!

And, of course, you have to love it when they do their Looney Tunes marathons... Tributes to Bugs Bunny, "Duck vs. Rabbit" day... oh, yeah. You just can't beat those classics. I grew up on them... my DAD grew up on them... my little nieces and nephews are growing up on them... they are still funny after so long. Bugs Bunny has got to be the greatest cartoon character of all time. I don't think I know anyone who dislikes the Wascaly Wabbit.

I do think CN should play more variety, though, maybe even get more international cartoons. I think I'll spaz if I ever see "Cantiflas" on there. (Cantiflas is a Mexican cartoon... seen it on the local Spanish station.).

 Really? This is one anime/manga (though the anime more than the manga) that I extremely strongly dislike. I have yet to see a single reason why I should like it (not even a character design...). It's good you said that you aren't a fan, otherwise I was going to say that you are never, ever allowed to criticize any anime manga.

Cartoon Network has become crappy. The old Toonami blocks will never be matched. That was some good stuff back then. Not even the famed Adult Swim is oh so pleasurable due to too many reruns and not enough new stuff. Toonami needs to show more mature/entertaining stuff than Rave Master or Dual Masters. (those are 2 of the worst animes on tv right now, IMO) CN just doesn't seem like anything special anymore because you're not really missing much anymore. They don't even show Samurai Jack anymore!!! *is forced to buy complete ripped seasons on Ebay* I still watch some stuff from time to time, but it's still gone downhill, just like TechTV when they fused.

The same thing could be said of anime. But I don't ever get tired of it.

Anyhoo, when I do occasionally plop myself in front of the TV, on cartoon network my favorite shows (other than Adult Swim) are Teen Titans and some of Toonami's shows. Though I dearly miss the old Toonami lineup that aired daily with Yu Yu Hakusho and Rurouni Kenshin... I wish they'd kill Miguzi and bring the old Toonami back! :waah!:
