The only fantasy books I read on my own will was, LOTR and the Hobbit. I doubt that will change. Now, I don't have a objection against Harry Potter, but I like Sci-fi novels! So basically, I can't really state a good or bad opinion about Harry Potter, 'cause I don’t know much about it.

I've read all of them, and they're pretty good.

I have a funny story about that, I was reading it in class and I had finished my test and that's it right so I started reading and i came to the part where that one guy erm died, and I was like sobbing and I didn't stop till hte end of the book, but when I stopped, I realized my whole class was looking at me. . .Oo

I haven't read any, don't really intend to. I tried to read the first one, I don't think I made it very far. Harry Potter is just not something I get into.

I was a bit worried when I saw this thread, but I guess it's okay. At least for now.
Read the series, and I don't really think they're as trashy as everyone seems to call them. But I really don't want to get into my reasoning again. As you can see, if you read the Similar Threads box, there has been a thread on the topic in the past.
I agree with Technomancer, I liked Order of the Phoenix the best. Reasons stated elsewhere, but in short, I felt it was the first one where the conflict didn't mainly feel petty. If that's what Rowling means by darker, I don't have a problem with it.
If I had to pick a favorite character, I'd say Dumbledore. Needless to say, the later chapters of book 5 make me happy on this account.

While stopped over in the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport (about a week ago) I had a long layover and decided to hit a bookstore for entertainment. The only Fantasy novels said establishment had was the Harry Potter series. Having seen nothing of interest, I picked up the first book and was pretty much hooked after fifty pages. It's a very easy read - compared to what I normally pick up - and thoroughly enjoyable for all ages.
I'm currently 100-pages into the second novel. Mmmm... I guess I'll have to check out the movies now, too. ~_^

I've read all the Harry Potter books and have really enjoyed them. It's fun, light, and engaging reading, although I agree with Nia-Chan that the last book was a bit different in tone (darker and less innocent) than the others.

Sorry, mmm, I just can't take all this! There are so many witchcraft practices in those books! I wish I could find this article I read, it had all of them laid out~ and how many times each were practiced... and it was a ton. 
Witchcraft is a serious thing, and unlike some other books that use it, they don't share a Christian message.
The more witchcraft is treated like just any other thing the more callused we become. I know there are many things that are wrong/bad about anime, and as Christians we need to weed through it all. It's hard to, but possible to share the gospel through them, but try to explain why wichcraft is ok there, and not in real life? Little kids aren't going to get it.
Well, once I heard an analagy reffering to this, (something like...) I know as a Christian I could potentially watch movies or read books with explicit/pornographic pictures in them and ignore the bad parts, but why should I even waste my time with them? What good is in them? Or if a little kid's book tried to make that kind of thing seem normal, doesn't that seem a bit strange? ~ Maybe I've gone on too much of a tangent. Well, I hope you seriously take this to heart, we are always fighting a spiritual war. *

Actually I saw a video on it and there are actually connenctions dilebrtly put in the book to witchcraft. The auther is a Witch.
Dont ever doubt God. He can help when thing even are impossible for a Human to work out.God can help us with everything, no matter how long it takes, how much it may seem he's not doing, never doubt God.

You know, we probably shouldn't get into this yet again. I have a lot of opinions I'm itching to share with some people here, but that isn't the best thing to do at the moment. To be honest, I think this thread just has the chance to devolve into an argument.
