My first introduction to anime was a healthy collection of Superbook and Flying House videos that my old church had, so I knew from an early age that anime was cool. Still, I didn't really watch much anime for a long while after that, mostly because of some very unfortunate TV problems (we had about the only cable provider in Georgia that DIDN'T have Cartoon Network and all the syndicated like DBZ came on at, like, 5 in the morning), but the occasional Sci-Fi Channel showing of stuff like Robot Carnival and Lenseman kept the flame alive, so to speak. Of course, then Pokemon and Digimon (the later of which you SHOULDN'T be ashamed to still like) happened, followed by the release of movies like Princess Mononoke and Metropolis and then my getting regular access to Toonami and Adult Swim and... Well, then I was an undisputed geek.
(Though I guess I should add that, aside from the above and stuff that's closely related to it, I really don't watch much anime. Between the ever-present problem of questionable content and just plain dull rup-off titles, there's just a limited amount of anime that's worth it)
