A christian looking for anime

Postby The Last Bard » Sun Nov 14, 2004 5:43 pm

Ok, to start with, I am 14 and am a big fan of anime. (As big a fan as one can be without watching anything but Pokemon and Megaman.)
I need recomendations for clean anime. Parents you know.
Jing King of Bandits has been good so far.
What anime doesn't have...too much violence and fanservice while still... awesome if you know what I mean. ;)
Yes, I do want recomendations for book and movie. :?:
Thank you all very much!
This site already appears to be AWESOME!

Let's see...um Rurouni Kenshin does have fighting, but it is very good and to my memory the tv series is clean. The manga is my favorite becasue it has action, and some humor but nothing bad to my recollection either.
Recently I have just watched the first episode of Full Metal Alchemist, but that is not enough to recommend you. It does have some drinking and a bit of violence so far, so never mind.
Zoids:Chaotic Century is very good if you like fantasy with machines and stuff. It is Y7,so it's all good. It is set in a world that has mechanical beasts living in it. The characters are all funny and there are good battles; not much violence in my opinion. I really don't like the manga; its too short for six bucks but the anime is extremely good and you really fall in love with the characters
"I've learned when you throw mud at others, not only do you get your hands dirty, but you also lose a lot of ground." Ravi Zacharias
"Pride grows in the human heart like lard on a pig." Aleksander Solzhenitzen (so call me on it)
"Zeal without knowledge can lead to chaos." - Bob Rohm
"Why don't we love his truth as much as we seem to love his love?"- Cross Movement, in their song "Check us Out"

Millenium Actress. Great super clean movie. You can see a review in our anime reivew section.

Fruits Basket manga-- some language and a few "homosexual undertones".

Last Exile-- Some violence and a TINY bit of fanservice. You can see a review of that in our review section too.

Full Moon Wo Sagashite-- a FABULOUS anime series. My easy favorite. No fanservice (okay Mitsuki wears an outfit that shows her stomache, but it isn't anything you wouldn't see walking by you in the mall). There is some minor language. Unfortunately, it's not released in the US yet, but you can get fan subs.

Well, those are my picks.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Eh... FMA is pretty borderline. I don't see anything wrong with it, but its a little violent, and the religous tone it starts on has been enough to have some of my friends' parents tell them they can't watch it. However, it is an amazing anime, and if you're interested there is a quite enlightening thread about it: http://christiananime.com/showthread.php?t=13873

Definitly watch it if you can. ^^

I would also suggest you check out the review section as well as surf through the threads in this forum. Lots of good information, but it's a lot of reading, too.

I'd recomend pretty much any Hayao Miyazaki movie, save Princess Mononoke (not that it isn't good, but it doesn't have some blood) Also, to take a smaller step up from Pokemon, Digimon is pretty cool

I know some people may torch this anime, but I would second Blitz's suggestion. I really loved Digimon (atleast the first season). A very innocent anime that get me stuck on anime. (For a kids show it touches on a few some what uncharacteristic themes: Parents splitting up, being insecure with who you are, ect)

While I don't doubt these are awesome manga/anime titles, Samarai X would might be a bit violent considering the criteria listed for anime in this thread.

And Bebop-- well, Faye dresses some what provacatively. Just a heads up.

Everyone has made me want to see some of the anime's they mentioned even more!

uh, Well, Gundam Wing is pretty clean. I does have pacifism in it, and a poor view of God, but I can't remember any cussing. There is some violence in the mecha battles, but no blood, because the mecha just blows up... But I haven't seen it in like, so long, I can't really remember anything that is 'unclean' or offensive.

I guess I could recomend Sailor Moon (ah, those Sailor Moon loving days of my youth... Wait, I'm still a youth...). Its a cute anime, but mostly girls like it. Its pretty clean.

Would anone shoot me if I recomended Tenchi Muyo? Its pretty clean, violence, not any blood that I can remember, at least not in the dubbed animes. Maybe you'd be allowed to watch it.

I'd recomend something else, but I'm not going to.

Keep in mind, I haven't read any of the manga's of any of these, nor have I seen the un-dubbed (sub) versions. So, if you decide to read/watch those, you'll be on your own (unless someone else tells you about those...). I haven't read the manga, though I'd like to, but my mother wants me to ask my father if I can read it, but I haven't gotten up the courage to do so... Eh, bye then.

To expand on what Fantasy Dreamer said about Gundam Wing:

If you were to see the uncut version, there is some cussing. Nothing too drastic if I recall correctly and some blood. Not much because of the whole MS blowing up thing. There's a really good review of it in the review section.

To expand on the mention of Wolf's Rain:

I saw all but the last few episodes of the series. Not all that much cussing, but it was pretty violent. Let's face it, they're wolves. ;)

I would second this one along with quite a few others mentioned on here. But I'd also like to add Cardcaptor Sakura by CLAMP, than anime and manga. For details on this one, you can visit the Sakura and CLAMP fanclub. ^_^ We'd be more than happy to go into details, but a main warning is it deals way heavy in magic.

I loved it! It's awesome! I think I'm either going to by dot Hack or Initial D next.
By the way; how is Initial D in content?
Thank you guys! :thumb:

No clue on Initial D, but the .Hack manga has a good deal of fanservice in it. The first volume is pretty bad, but I think it tapers off after that.

I thought Read or Die the Animation was very good. A brief nudity scene in one of the episodes, but it's not a constant theme, and I think the scene is only a minute long. -_-

.hack//sign legend of the twilight bracelet was good too, I really liked that one. I haven't seen enough of it to tell you anything bad, but it seemed OK to me.

If you haven't picked it up yet, try Azumanga. It's a cute series about a bunch of high school girls. It's like the Seinfeld of Anime. Hillarious.

The terrifying moldy bread incident! In elementary school, Yomi's leftover bread started rotting inside her desk! you can't imagine what happened! Not only that, but the mold had a will of its own, it was terrible! Barricading ourselves in the science prep room, we used spirit lamps and engaged in combat! Then I realized it!! If we only had the bottle of mildew remover from the bathroom, we could destroy them!!
