1337 |-|4x0|2

Postby Seraph » Sat Sep 13, 2003 10:11 am

Some other common leet words:

haxor (hax0r, |-|4x0|2, etc) - hacker, usually used to refer to someone's 1337 hacking skillz

w00t - like a siren going off, because you did so well at something

d00d - same as dude, but weirder and l33t-er

btw, l33t changes depending on the person, for instance some ways I've seen it spelled are 1337, l33t, 133t, etc.

and if you think about it, most letters can be transposed with symbols/numbers, for instance:

1 = L |2 = R 3 = E \/\/ = W |\| = N $ = S 4 = A

et cetera
Jesus Christ, light of the world burning bright
Within our hearts, forever.
Freedom means love without condition;
without a beginning or an end.
Here's my heart - may it be forever yours.
Only you can make every new day seem so new...

Oh, I didn't know you could translate words and webpages to other languages on Google, that is so sweet! ^_^ Oh sorry, off topic...

So are l33t and fluffy good or bad?

I suppose that with 1337... well, that would depend on how annoying you find it! :grin: Megatokyo uses it some (esp. for the character Largo who is a 1337 gamer, ph34r his 0wn4g3).

"Fluffy" I haven't really heard of specifically reffered to in Anime, but maybe I just gloss over it... I guess if it's bad or not would depend on the suituation.

Overall I think that both those items would not be considered "bad" like Fanservice or other such things (gore, violence, etc).

When something is referred to as L33t, that's positive. In general, I'd say fluffy is a more negative term, but as before, there is no standard definition, so you might want to always ask about that one. Oh, and thanks for the link, Rashiir, it was... interesting. Google has risen a coolness notch in my mind.

Posting in L33t/L337 is very annoying. A lot of people (including me) consider it a form of spamming and illegible posting.

it's for n00bs. mind you, typing n00bs isn't 1337-5p34k. noobs, short for newbies, with 0s to signify the big-eyedness of the newbies because they're looking at something they are new to.

oh yeah, there's the soft-1337 and hardcore-1337. i can live with both, but most people don't seem to get even soft, so it's better not to use it.

[edit] another thing, w00t is short for 'wonderful loot'. it originates from games such as Diablo and Baulder's Gate where if you got a good looting from a monster or another player, you'd say w00t. again, the 0s are used to imply the big eyedness and 'excitement' of the sayer.

Sorry, but I have just one more question, what is OOC? Didn't mean to steal the topic away from you, richard.

Well it's better to ask than finding out by yourself through the internet.
When I was still a newbie to anime, I saw a link named "hentai"... well, I was curious to find out what that word meant... and heck I found out... I'm telling you, I'm never getting near that stuff again, it's eeeevil

OOC is an acronym meaning "out of character." It's main use is in role playing games, in which the person wishes to make a 4th wall breaking comment that has nothing to do with the story.

And OOC also means "out of character" in reference to fanfiction. Normally, done unintentionally, it's a grave error that totally or almost totally ruins a fanfic by making it completely implausible and stupid (i.e. writing Spike as a talkative and emotionally open character in a Cowboy Bebop fanfic).

However, if it's done intentionally for a plot reason, which is very rare, it can once in a while make for good fanfic (i.e. writing Vash as a finally pushed over the edge of sanity psycho killer in a Trigun fanfic, I've read one of these that was actually very well done)

Basically, though, OOC in reference to fanfic=bad fanfic writing.

Thanks for all the info.
Are there any good repositories of all these technical terms and acronyms?

Is there a FAQ which covers questions like this?

I've been thinking the same thing, richardh01! Glad you asked.
I was completely unfamiliar with the terms TROLL, and this one
FAN SERVICE -- although once they were explained -- I did
understand immediately.
