I just got DVD 4 from RightStuf!

I haven't watched it yet!

So I don't have anything constructive to say!

I should have watched it before I posted this!

Gesundheit. It's German. It means 'health'.

Speaking of health, we're up to four discs released now? Anyone know the timetable for the rest?

DVD 5 (Seniors!) will be released October 12. No word on when DVD 6 (the last) will be released.

I just rented the first volume of the series this week to see if it would be something that I would like to buy. I'm glad to say that I found it as enjoyable as all of you have. I hope they make a box set (I'm making myself hold out on buying the series until I can get a clear answer). Out of curiousity, does anyone know about the animini mini discs? I was just on Amazon.com and when I did a search for the series they came up. They had them for Kaleido Star too if anyone here likes that series. Are the animini's just small DVDs of the series? If so, I might get those, they're much cheaper. Someone tell me please!

The Animinis are single episode samplers (usually the first episode). I have the Animini for SuperGALS! and supposedly they get you a discount off the full set if you like the show (dunno, since I'm holding out for the SuperGALS box set ^^). Still, it's a cheap way to check if you're going to like a series, especially since Newtype has stopped doing DVD packins with their newsstand editions.

Forgive me if some has already said this but isnt this a yuri anime. I say this because once I saw episode 6 i believe I found out that one of the girls ( I dont kow her name) was a crush on Sukaki (however you spell her nane).

That would be Kaorin, and no, it's not yuri, as the crush is purely comical, not at all physical, and not at all reciprocated by Sukaki (who I think is completely unaware of anything). That's just my opinion, of course, but I wouldn't classify AD as yuri.

Yeah, I wouldn't call it yuri. I *would* say there was one episode where Kaorin and Sakaki got to dance, and Kaorin's reaction -- well, I leapt for the fast forward on the DVD. I also grinned like a maniac when she wound up with Kimura-sensei on the next partner switch. Serves her right! ... oops, that kind of slipped out there.

However, there's nothing sexual about it for those concerned. It's more of an admiring from a distance, although I will say that it gets awfully close to the line once or twice. Fortunately it's a very minor portion of the story.

EDIT: And yes, as CO says, it is *not* reciprocated or physical.

Actually the whole "lesbian" girl is more of what you take it. She may or may not be lesbian. There is something called idolism in Japan which can be confused as a crush or something.

Anyways I just got vol. 4 and my personal opinion is it's the worst volume so far. It has a few LOL moments but Hmmm not like the volumes.

I haven't seen it yet, however I do find that for all it's zanyness, it's much more than just a funny series.... I think it's endearment is that it has real heart to it.

I thought volume four was great! Perhaps not the best, but it definitely had it share of good moments. Actually, I guess I'm OK with the "worst volume yet" label. The other three volumes are hard to beat as well.

The snowball fight was worth the purchase price of the DVD.

Well yeah it's still great and hahaha If you ask me Chiyo-Chan ummm going on the scavanger race was worth the purchase price. I laughed so hard!

But yeah I think it's the worst of the volumes yet.

I saw the first episode a long time ago and thought it was hilarious. I've been a little too embaressed to buy the DVD's though lol.

From the looks of it, there seem to be a lot of other guys who watch it. Maybe I'll get the DVD's after all. Ahh, so much anime, so little money. There are some others I want to get as well.

hehehe yeah I was embarrassed that I had to take it back one time. I have bought the whole series online, and then one time it came were it was slipping around in the case and it got all scratched up.
It was SO embarrassing taken it to the store to return it... But ooh well, what can I say, I love this show.

Hmmm Anyways I can't wait till november to when I can finally finish this series and have them all on DVD.

Don't be embarrassed, guys! If you let other's impressions of you affect you that much, how did you ever get into anime in the first place? Maybe it's easier now, but I've taken a lot of abuse for my passion. I don't care. I like what I like, and I've even made a few converts out of those scoffers!

I order most of my Anime online, and i've pretty much kept my whole Anime a secret off the net. The Only anime I can recall going up and actually buying was the Outlaw Star's and Angelic Layer vol.3 .... Ooh Wait Bubblegum Crisis and there MAY be some more that I don't remember right now.... Ok Battle Athletes the OVA 1 and 2.
*Gonna try for a complete list now*
Blood the Last Vampire, Vampire Hunter D + Bloodlust.
Najica Blitz Tactics 2 and 3.
the pokemon movies (though I bought them for my younger brother).
Princess Monoke
Limited Edition Saint Tail Vol. 1
Burn Up series *going out of busniess place, they sold the whole set for 10 dollars, figured for 10 dollars it was worth checking out*

But that I don't think really is too much compared to my whole collection http://www.dvdaficionado.com/dvds.html?cat=1&id=street

and I do admit the only reason I took them up and bought them was because the person at the counter look like an anime fan, I try and just sneak by the anime section *keeping a look on the sides* unless there are more people in that section.

I don't think I've ever been more embarrased *not anime though* to take Secret Of Nimh to the counter. I'm a collector of movies, good or bad. I pretty much collect and watch them all. But a major part of my collection is to collect all my friend's favorites. One of my friend's and her mother LOVE secret of Nimh and I promised them I'd see it.. I saw it for 5.50 at wal-mart and ack... the cover just totally embarrassed me, It took me probably a whole hour before I could get the courage to take it up there.

There isn't a single person in my family or in real life that I know that Know's I like Anime. I think the only One i've hinted towards was my older sister, but it wasn't anything major. I knew my Older sister loved Sailor Moon, and Deepdiscountdvd.com was selling the season sets for 39.95 so I just emailed her and told her that.
She doesn't know I bought myself one. ;)

NOW online i'm not afriad to say I love anime, and I have converted quite a few of my friends online into loving Anime.
I DO wish I could be more open in real life about it. But in truth some people just don't understand and wont' ever understand, and that just makes it for some reason really embarrassing.

As for YOUR question about how I got into Anime.
Actually through out my entire life, I really was one of thoughs who wanted to be grown up past there time, So I really didn't watch too many cartoons. So that goes for Animated movies.
So I dunno maybe around when I was .... 17? maybe 18 I dunno, wasn't too long ago I don't think.
Anyways I saw a trailer for Prince Of Egypt the video, and I was like You know, I might actually enjoy that.. I dunno why I thought that? So I checked it out, and while it doesn't tell the true story, I loved it.
So THAT got me into animated and cartoons.
Ok so My older sister and little bro got into Dragonball. My sister bought the video's and all that. I for the longest time just passed by not given a care.
This takes place a little bit before I watched Prince of Egypt.
But after Prince Of Egypt, I decided to just sit down do my little grunt like i don't care pose.. But just sit down and watch.

Now as most anime boards say Dragonball z sucks. But I do give it it's due in that it is what got me into anime. It had me wanting to see the next episode, making me not want to miss what happens next, and inside it got me excited to see what was gonna happen next. But I wasn't an Anime fan yet.
I didn't really really get into anime untill one night I was switching through channels and I saw Cowboy Bebop. It was the episode Mushroom Simba.
HAHAHA! SO ever since I've been an Anime fan.

I mean no disrespect, but that seems kind of sad. A lot of my friends and family don't like anime and kid me for liking it, but most are at least supportive of my interests, even if they aren't interested themselves.

Well hahaha not that i should be saying, when I was a kid I suffered some "mental" abuse.
So in person I don't really talk at all, or show any of my interest or feelings to people. Even my best's of friends don't get much more then a Hey outta me. When I do say something I say it in short sentances. I don't cry in person, I don't smile in person, Don't laugh, i'm pretty emotionless in person. When No ones around though, I do what I feel.
Hehehe and embarrassing as it is, it also goes for my own family. I am always REALLY embarassed at my Family Reunions because everyone tries to talk to me, But try as hard as I can, I can't say anything back. I AM trying to fix all of the above.

ANYWAYS, Back on topic.
I have Azumanga volume 5 preordered at deepdiscountdvd.com and it looks like it'll ship pretty soon. Deepdiscountdvd.com ships for free, and most anime only cost's $17.00, Great place.

I also purchesed this Anime called Magical Play, which is also supossed to be from the people behind Azumanga, I've never heard of it before and really don't know what it's about. Just supossedly it's really good, and was told if your a fan of Azumanga you should love Magical Play.

I understand how you feel, Street, I am much more vocal on the web than I am in person. It's all good. Let me know if I can be of any help with your "fix(ing) all of the above."

I recieved Azumanga Daioh 5! I haven't watched it yet, but you can bet I will tonight!

Sakaki

She's so funny... The dog she loved... Remember those scenes? She's hilarious!

Tomo is my favorite.

I wish the show had continued. They still had college to get through, you know?

That would definately be interesting....^^;;

They have this on the Anime Channel On Demand and my mom likes it (read: is forced to watch it). Her favorite anime character is Sakaki! But whenever I ask her who it is, she can't remember her name.... _ _

EDIT: I just asked her and she said "Miss Yamaguchi." Oh dear....don't worry, I corrected her.
Think happy thoughts.

Wow, long time no CAA. Sorry about that! Now that soccer season is over I have more free time. But back on topic.

For some reason I thought there were only going to be 4 DVD volumes, so I was surprised (but pleased) at learning of the vol. 5 (and eventually vol. 6) release. I guess I'll have to wait for Christmas for that Azumanga Daioh boxed set. It's definitely my favorite or next-to-favorite series. I even got some of my non-anime friends to enjoy it. (Showed them the old Newtype preview DVD, which I unfortunately lost ^^;;)

Street: I have a friend who was mentally abused when she was younger. It's really sad because she has such low self-esteem, even though she is a very talented person. I'm sure you have many talents as well and in time you'll no doubt loosen up (I was never mentally abused, persay, but I suffered severe depression at one point and became very introverted) Here's praying for you! If there ever was an "uplifting anime" category, Azumanga definitely falls into it.

YUA is a great series, too - so It's understandable. Volume 5 was great, perhaps the best of the series so far.

I'm still waiting for my Volume 5, it should come tomarrow anyways.

I did recieve Magical Play recently, but i'm watching something else right now so I haven't been able to sit down and watch it. Since it's made by the same people as Azumanga (not to mention I noticed how amazingly close the main character of Magical Play looks like Chiyo) I expect it will be good.

I haven't picked up volume 5 yet, but I think my favorite part on disc 4 was the:

"Sensei! Sensei!"
*hearts*
"Kawaii!" *shove*
*Whomp*

I do believe that I laughed until I cried at that point.
