Kenshin & Inu Yasha

Postby Spencer » Wed Jun 11, 2003 12:45 pm

I have heard a lot about both of these animes, mostly Kenshin, but Inu Yasha gets a lot of attention too. I haven't seen either of them, and was wondering if they were worth watching? I'm pretty sure Kenshin comes on Toonami, but I dunno about Inu Yasha.

*not nod* I love Kenchin and InuYasha
hehe. As far as I know Kenshin is still on Toonami (6:30?) and InuYasha is on Adult Swim at 12:30AM I think o.0

Kenshin is good, even though I don't even get to watch it half the time. Yeah, it's Toonami...on at 5:30 fer me (ah, Central time.). I never get to watch Inu-Yasha anymore, but it's not bad. Not my favorite, but not bad. ^^

Kenshin rocks  it's on eastern time 6:30 Toonami. Inuyasha is another matter i used to watch it i have seen every single episode on Adult Swim but i would be weary there is alot of wierd things in it: reincarnation, Demons, bring people back to life with spells I could go on and on but it all comes down to your personal convictions.

Oh yeah! Both of them are great! I haven't seen all of either of them, though....But I will some day! Personally, I think I like Inuyasha better. It wasn't as silly all of the time. But Inuyasha was silly at just the right times. But that's just me.

Although this may not be the best thread to mention this on, I wanted to get this out there before I forget. When watching anime on tv, you have to keep in mind that it's probably edited at least a little - especially on Cartoon Network/Toonami/Adult Swim. I don't think many other channels that show anime cut anything (except maybe the sci-fi channel, but they haven't shown any anime forever). So, just bear in mind before you fall in love with an anime that you've seen on tv, you may not be seeing all of it - for better or worse.

In sort of a response to what Gypsy said (Just to add some more  ). There is also another TV station that show uncut anime. It is called TechTV, telivision station completely dedicated to technology entertainment. Their anime block comes on at 4:30pm and 11:00pm-Midnight on weekdays. I would stay away from the rest of the channel myself. They are trying to make themselves the 'spiketv' for technology entertainment. They used to be a clean tv station but now. They wen't from tech new to family and technology to adult entertainment. I hope they change their theme next year.

Enough of that. InuYasha is very good and Kenshin is excellent. For the InuYasha fans. CN will be coming out with new episodes in late august of this year. Both are very well done regardless of the philophies being pushed.

I really don't know what you guys are talking about because I'm in Canada. I don't think there's any anime that I can get a hold of on TV except for Sailor Moon, Pokemon and Yugi-oh of which I don't like any. I have to rely on downloads ^_^ But I love Inuyasha too!! Very bloody at times though :(

Teletoon sucks for animei:( Especially that whole whole bait and switch thing they pulled when they first started up a few years ago.

kawahime- I thought it would have been easier to get anime in Vancouver than here. I mean there's a pretty large Japanese community there (at least if all the signs are anything to go by)

well i can't offer you any info on Inuyasha but what would you like to know about Rurouni Kenshin? i own all the dvds in the series and the OVAs released under the Samurai X title. As for the actual TV series it is ok on dvd, i don't think there is anything much they would have to edit, except for a few violent scenes. these scenes are usually short, dramatic flashbacks. Samurai X is however very bloody, (the "trust" and "betrayal" releases). the other two Sam. X are ok, and much like the TV series. Questions? i will do my best to answer.

One note: what might could be edited is the "outtakes" section of bonus material. the voice acters have some language and inappropriate jokes from time to time. (at the same time some are so good i almost choked to death on my cola, haha.)

Well, both are worth watching if you have the chance. But I liked Kenshin better than InuYasha. Maybe that's just my opinion.

I like both Inuyasha and Kenshin. But there was one thing about Kenshin that bugged me...the episodes that deviated from the manga were just...not as good, IMHO. I never read the Inuyasha manga, so I have no idea what kind of difference there was. I wish they would put Kenshin on later at night, too, in the Adult Swim block, though. I can never catch it where it is right now.

They could put it on twice, just like they used to do with DBZ...then we both could watch! :thumb:

I love Kenshin, but I don't like the edits done to it for Cartoon Network. I understand they have to edit for violence and stuff like that for Toonami, but they made some unnecessary edits. They already took out and toned down some scenes that are fairly important to the plot.

I like Inuyasha so far, but I'm not a huge fan of the dub. They tried too hard to make it hip and the pop culture referances seem out of place.

kenshin is a real good anime. you should definately watch it. its totally worth it. and i have the the whole series in the original japanese with subs and there isnt much stuff to be weary of. there is blood but its not a big deal. they dont edit too much on cartoon netwerk. the only thing to be weary of because it is really bloody and grusome is the OVAs. its pretty bloody cause it shows when kenshin was an assasian and ish.
inuyasha pretty good too. i like it. excepts lots of demon references. and the editing..i dunno.

The thing about Inuyasha is that they're dragging it on too long (in my opinion). I've seen upto episode 112 and quite a few of the episodes were just filler episodes. Recently it's pretty good, though.

Technomancer - I was just saying how I can't really watch anime on TV because I don't have Teletoon and from what I've heard, anime is much more accessible on TV in the states, right???

Do you keep track of the manga? Because I believe Rumiko Takahashi (the creator herself) said that at book 20 the series was halfway. Right now we're on book 29 or 30. I don't know how anime works in conjunction with the manga, but we've definitely still got quite a ways to go with the manga. As for how many episodes, I always check out this link (Japanese) http://www.ytv.co.jp/anime/inuyasha/next/index.html to see which episodes are showing in Japan. Looks like 117 is next week...

I disagree about CN not editing too much with Kenshin. They make many edits that tone down some important scenes in the show. They describe wounds that don't seem to be there and many of the scenes lost their emotional impact. Many of the edits they made cut out scenes that are important to the plot. One episode of the Kyoto arc even had long cuts that cut out some important character development. The edits are also lopsided and poorly done.

I love both series. ^^
Inuyasha is more humorous and Kenshin is more on the serious side - well, maybe not... ^^;.

::huggles Kenshin plushie::

I only get to see dubbed anime (mainly the stuff that comes on TV). And while a lot of people don't like cut anime, I sort of appreciate it. I don't like excessive violence/swearing/etc, though I do like some action.

The violence in Kenshin is not gratitous and it is used for a purpose. As much as I hate to say it, some parts don't have the same impact when the violence is toned down. They also edited some other important things and some things that weren't important, but were just plain silly to edit since they were not violent or offensive at all. IMO, the TV series is like a PG-13 overall.

Note to CN: Try to be more consistant and careful with the edits. We don't need any disappearing and reappearing blood, a toothpick that changes into a cigarette and back into a toothpick, an edited suicide scene that makes you wonder if the guy really died or not, scenes cut out where violence is implied, not shown, and whole scenes with important dialog and character development cut out.

However, the shows in Adult Swim are hardly edited at all. You aren't missing much in the Adult Swim versions and you will probably be surprised with how little was actually edited from the unedited versions. From what I heard, unedited Inuyasha is probably worth seeing becuase of a certain thing called subtitles and a flawed dub. I heard that the CN version of Inuyasha is mostly intact, though.

IMO, both Inuyasha and Kenshin have a good mix of seriousness and humor. I don't think either one has more or less humor or seriousness than the other. However, the Kenshin Trust/Betrayal OVAs are 100% serious. No humor in those, but they are extremely enjoyable.

I have seen both series and I like both series. (If that wasn't obvious *points to avatar and sig banner*) I have the Kenshin DVDs so I have seen it with all the blood intact. I would have to say that sometimes the blood is a little excessive (most likely for dramatic effect) but not as bad as some PG-13 movie I have seen. Also something that is odd with Inuyasha - their blood is almost always black. Did anyone else notice this? It is either dark, dark red or black... strange.

In lots of ways the series are very similar. They both feature a main guy with a sword who beats people up. And the relationship between him and the main girl is a primary focus. They both have an annoying kid/fox thing that tags around. And they other two main characters (one boy and one girl) have a hinted at relationship.

Main difference? Inuyasha has the bad guy Naraku. And although he has many servants he sends to beat up Inuyasha, I personally find it annoying that he is the bad guy through the whole series, and almost everyone they meet hates his guts. It's kind of like: "come on! There has to be at least one other main bad guy in ALL of Japan!" At least Kenshin has multiple tough bad guys that he fights.

Actually, Naraku is one of my fav characters in Inuyasha.*Notices the weird stares she's getting* Umm, yeah anyway, I'm sure there are other villains in Japan. Maybe their all afraid of Naraku cause they know they can never surpass his evilness....or something.(heh)
