My name is Erik Everson and I was born Dec. 29th 1982. I was baptized and raised a practicing Catholic. Around my junior year of high school the Holy Spirit gave me a new zeal for the faith, and I began to learn more and conform my life to holiness. Around the same time I got into anime. One of the first things I saw was Ninja Scroll, and it left me shocked. Ever since then I have been searching for a place to reveiw anime before I watch it, because the back of the box just doesn't give you all the details.
With my new zeal for the faith brightly burning, I went to a private christian college studying pre-med. My entire family on my moms side has always had some kind of medical background. She is a nurse and the oldest of six, all of whom have at least worked in a hospital, another is also a nurse, and another is a doctor. I was pretty sure this is what I wanted to do with my life.
Halfway through my first year though, I felt a calling from God. I had felt the same calling my junior year when I first caught this new fire, but I hadn't really discerned it very much. I felt called to the priesthood. I called the vocation director for my diocese and started the application process which was very lengthy. The application itself was 25 pages long, then I had to write to essays and an autobiography. After that I went through a psychological evalution (no, I'm not crazy, that's just standard procedure), and a review board. Finally I got approval from the bishop, but by that time a new school year had started and I was involved in a ministry with high school juniors since that was the time that had most affected me. So I waited another year to enter seminary, and here I am now in Oregon a thousand miles from anywhere
.
I'm doing my best to infect my fellow seminarians with a love for anime. A popular favorite seems to be Ranma 1/2. The insane comedy is a welcome relief from the costant philosophy we have to read. My own personal favorite is Now and Then, Here and There, which I plan to submit a review on. It is very intense, and not for everyone, but it has such a positive theme.
Some interesting things of note about myself: I study Shinkendo and Tae Kwon Do; I have a very large beard; I hate cats; and I take a stand for vegetable rights by only eating meat.
